FUEL FILLER TUBE REPLACED (RECALL) 6. THE EXHAUST HAS ROTTED AND THE RESULT IS IT SEPARATING/BREAKING OFF FROM THE MUFFLER. HUMMEL NISSAN IN DES MOINES WANTS $460 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WITH THE MUFFLER. TOM AT THE DEALER SAID HE?S SEEN THIS PROBLEM WITH ALMOST EVERY VEHICLE MINUS THE FRONTIER. HE SAID THE WAY THE EXHAUST IS DESIGNED CAUSES MOISTURE TO BUILD UP AND ROT THE SYSTEM OUT, AND THAT I NEED TO DRIVE IT MORE. I TOLD HIM I DON?T BELIEVE A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES SHOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE EXHAUST REPLACED, ESPECIALLY AFTER HAVING VEHICLES WITH 180,000 MILES ON THEM WITH NO SUCH TROUBLE (NOT NISSAN). HE THEN TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL SHOP BECAUSE IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO FIX. NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE ON FACEBOOK ASKED FOR MY VIN NUMBER SO THEY ?COULD LOOK INTO THE ISSUE,? AND THEN REPLIED BACK SAYING TO WORK WITH THE LOCAL DEALER (HUMMEL NISSAN). ALL IN ALL THEY'VE BEEN COMPLETELY USELESS AND UNHELPFUL. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PART THAT IS "CORRODED" PART THAT MAY FAIL AND A PART THAT HAS RUST AND BROKEN CAUSING A EXHAUST LEEK. THEY NISSAN AND THE DEALERSHIP ARE USING A PLAY ON WORDS TO AVOID MAKING THE REPAIRS UNDER THE EMISSION WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD IT IS OKAY TO DRIVE AND POLUTE THE ENVIROMENT SINCE THEY WILL NOT COVER IT AND THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE REP FROM NISSAN HE HAD A WHOLE LOT MORE INFO ABOUT THE REPAIR THAN WAS LISTED ON MY COPY OF THE REPAIR ORDER. THERE ARE FOUR MAJOR COMPONETS OF A EXHAUST SYSTEM ON MOST CARS. THE MANIFOLD, THE DOWN PIPE, THE MID PIPE AND THE MUFFLER. THE "CORRODED PART" OR RUST CAUSED ONE THE CONECTION TO LEEK. NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT 2 PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST IS OVER 1K, WHICH I HAVE NO INFOR ON MY INVOICE OR REPAIR ORDER ABOUT. WHEN HE RAN TESTS, HE FOUND THAT THE PRESSURE SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND DEFECTED AND CAUSING A LEAK THROUGH THE STEM. UPON GETTING THAT INFORMATION, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND FINALLY GOT THEM TO AGREE TO REPAIR THE SENSOR. FAST FORWARD TO MAY 2014, I NOW HAVE 2 OTHER SENSORS THAT ARE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING DUE TO THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2009-2010 Cube vehicles. The driver’s air bag inflator may rupture or detach from the steering wheel during air bag deployment.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A driver's air bag that ruptures or detaches can strike the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the front air bag inflator serial number, and replace the inflator as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 9, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's number for this recall is R26A1. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 14, 2026.

NISSAN IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 NISSAN CUBE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 30, 2009 THROUGH JULY 30, 2010. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ROTATED FOLLOWING A REAR MOVING BARRIER CRASH TEST AS REQUIRED, THE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKAGE EXCEEDED THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL DEVELOP A SPECIAL PROTECTOR AND ATTACH IT TO THE GASOLINE RECIRCULATION TUBE AT THE LOCATION OF THE FILLER NECK CONNECTOR. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WASHINGTON D.C., WEST VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN. THE MATERIAL IN THE NUT USED TO SECURE THE SENSOR-TRANSMITTER OF THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) MAY CORRODE AND POTENTIALLY CRACK IN AREAS WITH HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE NUT MAY COME OUT OF THE SENSOR-TRANSMITTER AND THE TPMS LAMP WILL ILLUMINATE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THE TPMS LAMP IS DISREGARDED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION, THE TIRE WILL QUICKLY LOSE AIR PRESSURE AT A CONSISTENT RATE RESULTING IN A FLAT TIRE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25005 on June 13, 2025, to assess the scope, root cause, and potential defect in 2009 Model Year (MY) Nissan Cube vehicles equipped with Takata PSDI-X air bag inflators.At the time the investigation was opened, analysis by Nissan and Takata (now New Leaf LLC) indicated that a rupture occurred at a weld point between the inflator cap and housing in a 2009 MY Nissan Cube.Nissan ruled out the propellant degradation root cause characteristic of the larger, well known, Takata recall, and instead identified a welding root cause. On April 9, 2026, Nissan North America, Inc. submitted a Part 573 Safety Recall Report to address the weld defect.Recall 26V230 includes the 28,388 2009 MY vehicles identified in the opening resume for this investigation and expands the population to include 2010 MY Nissan Cube vehicles for a total population of 47,928 vehicles produced between October 10, 2008, and September 25, 2010.Nissan identified the driver’s front air bag inflator (Takata PSDI-X, Part Number 98560-7991C) produced by TK Services Inc. within a specific lot may contain an improper body weld seal to the inflator base. This improper weld can cause the air bag module to detach from the steering wheel during deployment, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant in the event of a crash. Dealers will inspect the serial number on the driver’s air bag inflator in recalled vehicles to identify the air bag inflator lot. If the inflator is part of the affected lot, the dealer will remove and replace it with a new inflator manufactured by a different supplier. This repair will be performed free of charge. From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture.
