CATERPILLAR "C7" ENGINES FUEL SYSTEM FAILURES. WHILE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE ENGINE LOST POWER LIMITING SPEED TO AS LOW AS 35 MPH. LATER INVESTIGATION FOUND THE HEUI FUEL PUMP FAILED DAMAGING TWO INJECTORS. THE ENGINE HAS 57,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE SOURCING PARTS IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THIS ENGINE FROM 2004 AND LATER (ACERT C7) HAS A PROBLEM WHERE THE HEUI PUMP WEARS AND SEND METAL PARTICLES INTO THE INJECTORS. IF LUCKY LOSS OF POWER WILL RESULT. INJECTORS CAN ALSO GET STUCK OPEN RESULTING IN UNCONTROLLED ENGINE SPEED (RUNAWAY) AND ENGINE DAMAGE CAN ALSO RESULT. HEAVY A HEAVY VEHICLE LIKE AN RV OR SMALL TRUCK RUN AWAY IS APROBLEM. ENGINE DESTRUCTION AND RESULTING FIRE CAN DEVELOP. IN MY CASE REPAIRS WILL CONSIST OF REPLACING THE HEUI PUMP AND SET OF INJECTORS. THE DEALER QUOTED ME $6,000+ FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM DOING THE WORK MYSELF. THE INJECTORS AND PUMP HAVE TO BE RETURNED FOR CORE VALUE. WHEN I FIRST CALLED THE DEALER THEY KNEW WHAT HAPPENED WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM. ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER IS KAL27535. *TR
