VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THE FRONT AXLE WEIGHT RATING (FAWR) IS INADEQUATE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: THIS NONCOMPLIANCE COULD LEAD TO PREMATURE TIRE WEAR AND POTENTIALLY A TIRE FAILURE. SUCH A TIRE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TIRES AND THE FRONT AXLE WILL BE RE-RATED TO 10,410 LBS. FAWR. ALL MOTOR HOMES WILL BE ISSUED NEW FEDERAL TIRE LABELS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 30, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NATIONAL RV AT 1-909-943-6007. THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA), AN AGENCY OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, HAS BEEN NOTIFIED THAT NATIONAL RV, INC. AND ITS HOLDING COMPANY, NATIONAL RV HOLDINGS, INC., HAVE FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY.
