In any instance where the electronic shifter does not have power, vehicle cannot be placed into neutral manually to be pushed to safety. Vehicle shuts down, immobile, in place with no warning. I was in drive for approximately 30 minutes. I put the vehicle in park, then in reverse to back out of a parking space. The car was never turned off. When I went to put the vehicle into drive, the entire car lost power. There was no warning. The car was completely immobilized perpendicular to traffic. Because the shifter is entirely electronic, any time the vehicle loses power (battery, alternator, electrical issues, chip processor problem) the car cannot be placed into neutral and there is no manual override. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Outlander and 2023-2025 Outlander PHEV vehicles. Due to a software error in the in-vehicle infotainment system (A-IVI), the rearview camera image may freeze, or not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview image that does not display properly reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the A-IVI software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 30, 2025. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-25-001. This recall replaces and expands previous NHTSA recall number 23V345. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V345 will need to have the new remedy completed.
