I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. WITHIN SECONDS THE RED PAINT TURNED BLACK IN THE HOOD'S CENTER. AS I ATTEMPTED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, SMALL DEBRIS WAS FALLING FROM MY CAR. PILLARS OF DARK BLACK SMOKE OBSTRUCTED MY VIEW. I WAS ABLE TO NEGOTIATE THE TRAFFIC AND GET OFF THE FREEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RAN TO A SAFE DISTANCE. WITHIN A MINUTES THE INTERIOR WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS.
