THE CAR-SEAT OCCUPANCY MAT SENSOR WHICH IS BUILT INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BOTTOM IS DEFECTIVE. THE MERCEDES DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE SEAT AT GREAT EXPENSE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT SINCE THE SRS SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT IS ON THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED. IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH WAS ALSO CAUSING THE SRS LIGHT TO COME ON. THE PARTS AND LABOR BILL WAS OVER $600.

WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED, "SRS RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION VISIT WORKSHOP" UPON INVESTIGATING THIS ERROR MESSAGE ON THE INTERNET MERCEDES BENZ FORUM, I HAVE DETERMINED THE FOLLOWING: 1. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AFFECTING SEVERAL MB MODELS, INCLUDING THE E-CLASS, C-CLASS, SLK, CLK, AND POSSIBLY OTHERS. 2. WHEN THIS MESSAGE APPEARS, THE DRIVER AIR BAG IS MOST LIKELY DISABLED. 3. MB SERVICE BULLETIN PB-91.60/93D ACKNOWLEDGES THIS PROBLEM AS A DESIGN OR ASSEMBLY ERROR, AND RECOMMENDS REPLACEMENT OF A WIRING COMPONENT IN THE STEERING COLUMN. 4. MB SERVICE PERSONNEL ARE OFTEN UNABLE TO MAKE THE PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND FIX. 5. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2001-2011 C-Class, CLK, E-Class, and CLS vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models and model years. The glass sunroof panel may not be properly secured and can detach.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A detached sunroof panel can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the sunroof panel as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 10, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. This recall is an expansion of previous NHTSA recall number 22V-954. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2024120001/2/3.

The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly causing the glass panel to detach from the vehicle.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A detached glass panel can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sliding roof, as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 7, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. This recall is an expansion of recall number 19V-918. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2021040012.
