Vehicle Information: Year / Make / Model: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4xe Component(s) Involved: Engine / Hybrid Powertrain / Electrical System / Sudden Loss of Drive Power Current Mileage: Approximately 48,000mi Incident Summary I am filing this complaint because my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4xe has developed a dangerous new defect following an official recall service: the engine completely dies while accelerating on the highway. I took my Jeep to an authorized dealership to have the safety recall performed for the engine shutdown issue. Before this recall work was completed, I had never experienced the vehicle dying on the highway. Since the recall "fix," however, the engine has cut out completely 4 separate times while accelerating at high speeds. The most recent time happened today (August 3, 2026). Losing all pedal response and motive power in fast-moving traffic with no warning is terrifying and creates an extreme hazard for myself and everyone around me. History of Vehicle Issues & Extended Shop Time This sudden highway stalling comes on top of severe, ongoing electrical problems that have plagued this Jeep. Altogether, the vehicle has spent months sitting in the dealership shop, yet the problems remain unfixed: Post-Recall Engine Shutdowns: 4 separate complete power loss incidents while accelerating on the highway (latest occurrence: August 3, 2026). Unresolved Battery Drain: Ongoing parasitic battery drain that kills the battery, requiring multiple rounds of diagnostics without a solution. Pervasive Electrical Glitches: Frequent system glitches, including frozen touchscreens, instrument cluster reboots, random dash warning lights, and connectivity drops. Media Hub Issues: Hardware problems involving the media hub module. Requested Action The recall fix did not solve the safety hazard—it seems to have triggered a new, life-threatening stalling issue on the highway, along with the string of other issues, it's unsafe to drive.

My vehicle has multiple software and electrical issues that Jeep has been unable to diagnose or repair, and there is currently no recall addressing these problems. One of the most serious issues is that the vehicle will randomly switch the display language from English to Italian while I am driving. When this happens, the speedometer changes from miles per hour (MPH) to kilometers per hour (KPH), making it difficult to know my speed without pulling over and manually changing the language back to English. This creates an unnecessary safety concern. Additionally, the automatic door lock feature no longer functions properly. Although the dealership has repaired it in the past, the problem has returned. I also continue to receive a dashboard warning indicating that the Forward Collision Warning system is disabled, even though the feature is clearly enabled in the vehicle's settings. This inconsistency raises concerns about whether the safety system is functioning as intended. Another ongoing issue is that the vehicle randomly drains its battery. Both AutoZone and the dealership have tested the main battery and the auxiliary battery, and both have been found to be in normal working condition. Despite this, the battery drain continues to occur without explanation randomly. These recurring software and electrical problems have become unacceptable. Jeep has been unable to provide a permanent solution, and I believe the company should stand behind its product by acknowledging and resolving these issues.

The contact owns a 2026 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving and making a right turn, the vehicle hesitated and jerked while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under an unknown recall. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a third time, but no further diagnostic information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact not to trade the vehicle due to the safety risk. The service manager informed the contact that another repair attempt was required before the vehicle could be considered under the Lemon Law. The vehicle was not repaired. This vehicle has now experienced three separate incidents of sudden loss of propulsion while traveling at highway speeds, requiring it to be towed to the dealership on all three occasions. Each incident involved the same dangerous defect, and after each repair I was assured, the vehicle had been repaired and was safe to operate. Despite those assurances, the identical defect has continued to recur. This is not simply a customer satisfaction issue; it is an ongoing safety issue that places my family and every motorist around us at significant for catastrophic event. On May 12, 2025, I took delivery of my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude. On June 23, 2025, the vehicle experienced its first sudden loss of propulsion while traveling at highway speed and was towed to Ryan Auto Mall in Buffalo, Minnesota. On January 5, 2026, the identical defect occurred again. The vehicle once again lost propulsion while traveling at highway speed and was towed to the dealership. From January 5, 2026, through May 13, 2026, my vehicle remained at the dealership for approximately four and one-half months while Stellantis and its authorized dealer attempted to diagnose and repair the recurring defect. Following that extended repair process, I was advised that the vehicle had been repaired and that the issue had been resolved. Settlement Agreement: On May 13, 2026, I executed a Release Agreement with FCA US LLC. As part of the negotiated settlement, I was required to enter into a lease for a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The only reason I agreed to sign the Release Agreement and enter into the new lease was because I relied on Stellantis' representations that the 2025 Jeep had been successfully repaired and that the dangerous defect had been permanently corrected. Had I been informed that the vehicle remained susceptible to the same failure, I would never have agreed to retain the vehicle or execute the related lease agreement.

The 12-volt auxiliary battery on this 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid repeatedly discharges to a completely dead state while the vehicle is parked and switched off. The vehicle has failed three times in approximately 30 days. First failure, June 26, 2026: the vehicle would not start. Numerous fault codes were stored across multiple modules, including P0562 (system voltage low). The odometer display was flashing, indicating a module had dropped off the communication bus. Second failure, July 13, 2026: less than 48 hours after returning from a road trip and parking, the same condition recurred. The vehicle required external 12-volt power to start. Third failure, July 26, 2026: a brand-new AGM battery had been installed on July 24, 2026. Within 48 hours of installation the battery measured 5.85 volts — fully discharged. An 80Ah battery discharging in 48 hours indicates a continuous parasitic draw of roughly one amp, which is 20 to 40 times the normal key-off draw for a sleeping vehicle. Owner testing has ruled out both the battery and the charging system. The DC-DC converter was measured delivering 127 amps at 13.9 volts, confirming it functions. The replacement battery accepts and holds a full charge, resting at 13.06 volts after recharge. The previous battery passed a printed conductance and load test. During each failure, the entire camera system and the ParkSense park assist system drop out simultaneously and the odometer flashes. Stored codes include U0159-00 (lost communication with parking assist control module) and B2204-00 (ECU configuration mismatch). Separately, and even when the 12-volt system is healthy, the rear backup camera intermittently fails to activate at startup and sometimes only begins working after 5 to 10 minutes of driving. Safety concerns: 1. Rear visibility. The backup camera intermittently does not display an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse. 2. Loss of motive power. 3. Stranding

The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument panel went blank. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V741000 (Electrical System) and 26V328000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was driven to a local dealer, who later informed the contact that the recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V741000 (Electrical System) could not be completed due to a lack of adequate staff or equipment. The vehicle was then towed to Thomas Auto Centers (67791 Mall Rd, St Clairsville, OH 43950), who informed the contact that the recall repair would take three to four weeks to complete. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, opened a case, and followed up with the first dealer, who had the vehicle towed to the second dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 35,198.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle fire can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Dealers will update the high voltage battery software, and replace the high voltage battery, as necessary, free of charge. Some owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 17, 2025. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a later date. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 68C. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with a 3.6, 5.7, or 6.4 liter engine and previously recalled under NHTSA Recall 14V530 or 15V115. The fuel pump relay inside the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM-7) may fail, causing the vehicle to stall without warning.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) will replace the affected fuel pump relay and related wire harness. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed beginning December 19, 2019. Vehicles that experience a fuel pump failure will receive an interim repair. Owners will receive a second notice when the final remedy becomes available. The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING OR NOT TO START AND/OR CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. ENGINE STALLING OR INOPERATIVE WIPERS COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. On July 23, 2015, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) launched Safety Recall 15V-461 to remedy security vulnerabilities in approximately 1.4 million model year (MY) 2013 through 2015 vehicles equipped with Uconnect head units (HU) 8.4A (RA3 radio) and 8.4AN (RA4 radio) manufactured by Harman International.On July 24, 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query, RQ 15-004, to investigate HU security vulnerabilities and remedy effectiveness in the recalled population and to determine whether similar units have been supplied for use in other FCA vehicles.In an August 11, 2015 letter, FCA submitted a second Part 573 safety recall report expanding the scope of the Uconnect RA4 model radio to include additional 7,810 MY 2015 Jeep Renegade vehicles manufactured from September 18, 2014 through June 25, 2015 (Recall 15V-508).Scope analysis indicated that Uconnect radios installed in FCA vehicles not included in recalls 15V-461 or 15V-508 (subject recalls) are not equipped with built-in cellular access or short range wireless communication features and, thus, do not contain the security vulnerabilities addressed by the subject recalls. SUBJECT VEHICLES: MY2014 through 2015 Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Cherokee sport utility vehicles; MY2013 through 2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500/5500 pickup trucks; MY2013 through 2015 Dodge Viper vehicles; and MY2015 Chrysler 200, 300, Jeep Renegade, Dodge Charger and Challenger vehicles.According to FCA, long and short range wireless vulnerabilities identified in the recalled vehicles could allow unauthorized third-party access to, and manipulation of, networked vehicle control systems.Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities, coupled with reverse engineering of networked microprocessor control modules, could result in unauthorized manipulation of vehicle control systems. This unauthorized manipulation of vehicle controls and systems could expose the driver, vehicle occupants or other highway users to an increased risk of injury.FCA and its network provider, Sprint, conducted a nationwide campaign to block access to a radio communications port that was unintentionally left open.On July 27, 2015, short range wireless vulnerabilities were also blocked.Finally, third party security evaluation and regression testing identified vulnerabilities that were either remedied by Sprint or through updates to the FCA Uconnect software.ODI identified a total of 30 complaints or field reports on unique vehicles submitted by FCA (29) or received by NHTSA (1) alleging incidents of theft from a vehicle or anomalous performance that the owner alleged were caused by, or may have been caused by, remote hacking.Twenty-six (87%) of these reports were submitted after a magazine article was published on July 21, 2015, describing the remote hacking of an FCA vehicle by researchers who were able to affect the operation of various vehicle control systems, including the service brakes, steering, throttle and ignition.Most of the complaints involved vehicle systems that were not safety critical (e.g., complaints related to radio, navigation system, or air-conditioning control) and did not affect vehicle control.Three complaints reported engine stalls.One owner reported sudden unintended acceleration allegedly related to hacking.None of the complaints or field reports reviewed involved the steering and braking vehicle control effects demonstrated by the research hackers prior to the recall.There were no confirmed incidents of hacking in any of the records reviewed by ODI.The remedies completed by Sprint and FCA appear to have eliminated vulnerabilities that mi

In response to this investigation, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is conducting a recall to address headliner fires that occur post 14V-391.On December 22, 2015 FCA notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of safety recall 15V-879 to remedy potential headliner fires occurring in 389,252 model year (MY) 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from December 3, 2009 to September 1, 2012.Note this recall, which was scoped based on vehicle design level and field events, does not include all MY 2013 or any MY 2014 Durango and Grand Cherokee vehicles; ODI and FCA will continue to monitor the field experience for this population.ODI opened this investigation based on allegations of fires occurring in the headliner area after the remedy for recall 14V-391 had been conducted.Recall 14V-391 involved MY 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured by FCA from January 5, 2010 to December 11, 2013.The recall was influenced by ODI investigation EA14-001.During EA14-001, data provided by FCA indicated fires were caused by an electrical short in the vanity lamp wiring for either visor.Visors are mounted to the (metal) roof of the vehicle through the headliner with three screws. EA14-001 determined it was possible for the wiring to be pierced or abraded by one of the screws, or otherwise become electrically shorted either during initial vehicle assembly or subsequent headliner area repairs presenting a fire risk.Most of the fires occurred while the vehicle was being driven.The 14V-391 remedy consisted of installing a plastic guide way on each visor to route wiring away from the attachment screws and prevent electrical shorting.Additionally abrasion resistant tape was installed in key areas to protect the wiring integrity.In order to install the guide, the headliner had to be lowered and the existing visor and headliner wiring rerouted, a somewhat complex procedure that required sufficient service technician care and expertise.FCA modified the 14V-391 remedy multiple times to improve it.ODI has identified a total of 43 NHTSA complaints across affected vehicles indicating a fire occurring after the vehicle had been remedied under 14V-391.FCA reported 159 additional unique complaints of post-remedy fires. The fire events primarily occurred while driving however a few reported fires starting after the vehicle was parked. In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation.
