Sometimes when first started and other times while driving, the main touch screen dies and certain functionality is lost though the car is still drivable. Everything controlled by the touch screen stops (radio, cameras, heating/cooling) but blinkers do not work, front wipers turn on and can't be turned off, high beams turn on and off, and cruise control turns on and off. If this happens while driving, a message saying "SOS Call unavailable. Please visit an authorized dealer" pops up. If it happens when the engine is first started, nothing appears on the screen.
As I was driving the suv completely turnoff and would not let me turn it back on for a couple of seconds. Pulled into a parking lot and turned off again. This is very dangerous, and scary.

Two separate incidents, my Grand Cherokee L has less than 100 miles on it. I pulled into a drive thru restaurant and the vehicle completely shut off, still in drive mode. Then 5 minutes later I went to pull into a parking spot, I put the vehicle in park, then it shut off again.

The contact stated that he was able to continue to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not assist because there was no software update for the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
