I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH A 4.7 V8. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS (QTY 2) ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SHEARED RESULTING IN EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK (POSSIBLY DUE TO HEAT OR UNDER ENGINEERING RUST WAS NOT A FACTOR). I HAVE MADE CHRYSLER AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE WITH THE 4.7 V8 FOUND NOT ONLY IN THE GRAND CHEROKEE BUT THE COMMANDER, AND DODGE DURANGO AS WELL. A LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAN CAUSE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES. THIS ISSUE CAN ALSO RESULT IN TOXIC FUME INHALATION THROUGH CABIN AIR INTAKE PORTS. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED $1300 TO REPLACE (8) BOLTS THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN MY SAFETY, AND EXCUSED THE ISSUE BY STATING THAT "CARS ARE JUST NOT MADE LIKE THEY USED TO BE". I FIND THIS RIDICULOUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS ISSUE CAN RESULT IN DEATH, OXYGEN DEPRIVATION, AS WELL AS SERVER BURN IN THE EVENT OF FIRE. *TR

INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BREAK ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES HAD CRACKS IN THE PLASTIC BACKING WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE IN 2012. FIRST, THE REAR DRIVER DOOR HANDLE BROKE AND THE MECHANIC WANTED $850 TO FIX IT SINCE THE PLASTIC BACKSPLASH IS PART OF THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL. WITHOUT THE PLASTIC BACKSPLASH, THE HANDLE DOES NOT WORK. SO, I HAVE TO OPEN THAT DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE FOR MY KIDS. NOW THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE HAS A HOLE AND IS ALMOST TO THE POINT OF BREAKING. I WANT TO GET RID OF THIS CAR AS I CANNOT AFFORD $3300 TO FIX THE HANDLES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS DOORS MUST OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. *TR

REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE IS BROKEN. NO IDEA HOW OR WHEN IT HAPPENED. ON JUNE 4, 2013, MY SON TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN. I FIGURED HE JUST HAD A HARD TIME AND I LET HIM OUT FROM THE OUTSIDE. 3 DAYS LATER, I OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE TO LET MY SON IN AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE PLASTIC MOLDING AROUND THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS BROKEN OFF AND MISSING AND THE DOOR HANDLE WAS HANGING LIMP. I AM CERTAIN THAT THERE WAS NO MISSING PLASTIC 3 DAYS PRIOR WHEN THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN FROM THE INSIDE, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHEN THE PLASTIC BROKE OFF. I'M GUESSING IT'S DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. FRUSTRATING SINCE THOSE REAR DOOR HANDLES ARE RARELY USED. I ALMOST ALWAYS OPEN THE REAR DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE BECAUSE MY KIDS ARE SMALL AND STILL RIDE STRAPPED INTO CAR SEATS, SO THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO GET OUT THEMSELVES. HAVING READ OTHER COMPLAINTS, THIS MUST BE SOME SORT OF DEFECT. THERE'S NO REASON A DOOR HANDLE THAT IS RARELY USED SHOULD HAVE BROKEN OFF, AND IT'S ESPECIALLY STRANGE THAT IT SEEMS TO HAVE JUST BROKEN APART WHEN NO ONE WAS TOUCHING IT. *TR

I BEGAN TO NOTICE SOME UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. WHILE DRIVING, WHEN THE VEHICLE SHOULD DOWNSHIFT, I COULD FEEL A BUMP AND NOTICEABLE HESITATION. THAT GRADUALLY WORSENED TO BECOME MAJOR FLUCTUATIONS IN THE RPM WHILE BOTH ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. FOR INSTANCE, WHILE STEADILY ENGAGING THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES FEELS JUMPY, DOES NOT ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY, AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE RPM'S THEY JUMP UP AND DOWN BY 500 - 1000 RPMS. ALSO, WHILE COASTING TO A STOP, WHEN I AM NOT BRAKING BUT JUST ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL TO THE STOP FROM SAY 45 MPH, THE SAME JUMPING OCCURS WITH THE RPMS. THIS SOMETIMES CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD IF THE RPMS FLARE AT A NEAR STOP, AND ONCE, AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I STOPPED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVE BUT THE ENGINE FLARED AND PUSHED THE CAR OUT ONTO THE ROADWAY BY ABOUT A FOOT. EVENTUALLY, THIS RPM ISSUE BEGAN CAUSING STALLING. WHEN I WOULD STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE WOULD JUMP, AND THEN THE RPMS WOULD DROP TO ZERO AND THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. SOMETIMES AFTER JUST A FEW ATTEMPTS I COULD RESTART. TWICE I NEEDED TOWED. MY REGULAR MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE STALLING AND SAW AND FELT THE RPM FLARES. HE FOUND NO MECHANICAL ISSUES AND SUGGESTED IT WAS A COMPUTER ISSUE AND DIRECTED ME TO A DEALERSHIP. 2 DEALERSHIPS COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SENT ME AWAY WITH NO FIX. SO, MY REGULAR MECHANIC DID A COMPUTER RESET WHICH SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. RESET WAS AT 66,000 MILES. NOW AT 72,300, PROBLEM IS AGAIN BECOMING PRONOUNCED. I AM GETTING NOWHERE WITH THE DEALERSHIPS AND I'M HONESTLY FRIGHTENED DRIVING THIS CAR. I CANNOT TRUST THE CAR TO ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE PROPERLY AND I CAN'T BE SURE THE ENGINE WON'T STALL IN TRAFFIC. *TR

Jul 21, 2014

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, drivers should adjust their seat to allow clearance between the driver's knee and the ignition key, and remove all items from their key ring, leaving only the vehicle key. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, to July 5, 2007, and 2006-2007 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, to July 5, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the OFF or ACCESSORY position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. Chrysler sent interim notifications to owners in September 2014. The recall began on October 9, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P41.

13V175000 · Electrical System; Power Train:transfer Case (4-WHEEL Drive)

May 7, 2013

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, through March 9, 2010; and 2006-2010 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, through March 10, 2010. A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the vehicle shifts into neutral, it may roll away increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N23.

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.7L ENGINES AND NAG1 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, THE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR CONDENSATE WATER MAY ENTER THE TRANSMISSION AT THE FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL. THIS CAN RESULT IN SHUDDER DURING TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IT CAN LEAD TO INCREASED TRANSMISSION OPERATING TEMPERATURES, BOILING OF THE WATER, AND A SUBSEQUENT PURGING OF TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION FOR LEAKAGE AT THE FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL. IF NO LEAK IS DETECTED, A NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR SHIELD WILL BE INSTALLED, AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. IF THE PRESENCE OF A LEAK IS DETECTED, THE VEHICLE WILL BE EVALUATED FOR SHUDDER DURING TORQUE CONVERTER ENGAGEMENT. IF NO SHUDDER IS DETECTED, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE TRIPLE FLUSHED, AND NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. IF SHUDDER IS DETECTED, THE TORQUE CONVERTER WILL BE REPLACED, A NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED, AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 31, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
