WHEN THE CAR STARTS TO SKID IN THE SNOW, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE FEATURE APPEARS TO KICK IN, WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO NOT BRAKE AT ALL. CAR SIMPLY CRUISES FORWARD WITHOUT ANY BRAKING AT ALL. PUMPING THE BRAKES APPEARS TO ACTUALLY HELP THE SITUATION IN THAT IT SEEMS TO RESET THE ANTI LOCK FEATURE AND ALLOWS THE BRAKES TO AT LEAST TEMPORARILY APPLY BEFORE THE CAR'S COMPUTER SWITCHES THEM OFF AGAIN. IN THIS INCIDENT, THERE WAS A SLIGHT DOWNHILL INCLINE, CAR CRUISED INTO REAR END OF CAR THAT WAS STOPPED IN FRONT. *TR

THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH A BRAND NEW VEHICLE OF THE SAME COLOR IN & OUT AND ALL THE EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES THAT WERE ON THE VEHICLE WE PURCHASED AS BRAND NEW!!! ON RETURN SCHEDULED SERVICE APPOINTMENT BUT THE JX35 WAS DEAD AND TOWED TO THE DEALER ON 11/5/2013 WHO SUPPLIED A LOANER CAR AND INDICTED A COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR ABOUT 2 DAYS TO REPAIR. TODAY ON 11/11/2013 STILL NO WORD ON REPAIRS! STALLED ON BASIS THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE! DUE TO THE HEAT GENERATED IN THE CELL PHONE THE FIRE POTENTIAL WAS GREAT! WE REQUESTED THAT INFINITI BUY BACK THIS 10 MONTH OLD VEHICLE WITH UNDER 5,000 MILES AND ARE AWAITING THEIR RESPONSE! BEWARE OF THE 2013 JX35 IT MAY HAVE A FAULTY COMPUTER THAT IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD!!!!! OUR MAJOR CONCERN IS THAT ANY REPAIR WOULD JUST BE TEMPORARY TILL THE NEXT ELECTRICAL PROBLEM DUE TO THE HEAT THE MALFUNCTION GENERATED! *TR

AFTER ABOUT 3000 MILES, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A "BUCKING" OF THE CAR AT VERY LOW SPEED IN TRAFFIC (~10-15MPH). EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER AND WOULD HAVE TO STOMP ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THIS BEGAN TO OCCUR REGULARLY UNTIL I DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AS PART OF THE FIRST SERVICE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PART TO ARRIVE AND THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN SERVICE BULLETIN. MY DEALER HAS BEEN VERY ACCOMMODATING HOWEVER IT IS VERY UNNERVING TO HAVE TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION JUST 5000 MILES INTO THE LIFE OF A VEHICLE. I AM ACTIVELY EXPLORING OPTIONS TO ADDRESS THE FINANCIAL LIABILITY THAT I NOW HAVE AS PART OF THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR

UPON APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION MY WIFE WAS BRAKING TO A STOP. THERE WERE SOME BUMPS IN THE ROAD (SLIGHT WASHBOARD) THAT APPEARED TO UPSET THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE SEATBELTS CONTRACTED QUICKLY AND TOOK UP ANY SLACK AND BECAME VERY TIGHT. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND RESULTED IN A VERY HARD AND INEFFECTIVE PEDAL. THE CAR ENDED UP 1/2 WAY INTO THE INTERSECTION OR FURTHER BY THE TIME IT STOPPED. IT TRULY SEEMED TO TAKE AN ADDITIONAL 2 SECONDS TO RESUME WORKING. THIS ALSO HAPPENED THE PREVIOUS WEEKEND WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THIS TIME I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE ROAD ALSO HAD A FEW RIPPLES ON IT AND THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND TO MY NOW VERY HARD FOOT. THE SEAT BELTS TIGHTENED LIKE I MENTIONED ABOVE AND WE ENDED UP FULLY ACROSS THE INTERSECTION BY THE TIME WE STOPPED. I HAD A CAR FULL OF KIDS AND THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A NATIONAL STORY HAD SOMEONE BEEN COMING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THANK HEAVENS IT WAS CLEAR. I'VE DRIVEN MANY CARS AND NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. IT IS VERY UNSETTLING. *TR

16V244000 · Air Bags:sensor:occupant Classification

Apr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

The secondary latch may remain in the open position when the hood is closed.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the primary hood latch is released and the secondary latch fails during operation of the vehicle, it could cause the hood to open during vehicle operation impairing the driver's vision, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Aug 14, 2012

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles manufactured from February 15, 2012, through June 22, 2012. As a result, the fuel level float may be prevented from dropping as the fuel is consumed and the fuel guage may read a fuel level higher than actually exists.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel guage does not accurately show when the tank is becoming empty, the vehicle may run out of gas unexpectedly, stalling, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and re-route the fuel transfer tube and install a new O-ring, free of charge. The recall began on September 10, 2012. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

In April 2014, Nissan North America launched Safety Recall 14V-138 to address problems with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) algorithm in the following vehicles: model year (MY) 2013-2014 Nissan Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and LEAF; MY 2013 Infiniti JX35; MY 2014 Infiniti QX60 and Q50; and MY 2013 Nissan NV 200/Taxi vehicles.According to Nissan, the OCS may misclassify adult front passenger occupants and turn off the passenger's frontal air bag for an adult occupant of sufficient weight.In March 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query after the agency received approximately 124 complaints alleging problems with the OCS after the recall repairs and/or other OCS related repairs were made by Nissan/Infiniti dealers.The majority of the complaints alleged the passenger air bag status light stays on (i.e., indicating passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers of sufficient weight.Many of the complaints stated the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists.In its June 2015 response to ODI's information request under the Recall Query, Nissan provided approximately 1,121 complaints and field reports on the recalled vehicles.These reports alleged OCS issues similar to the NHTSA reports described above.At this time, NHTSA has received a total of approximately 208 complaints (note: total of 1,271 reports shown in the table above eliminates 58 duplicative reports received by ODI and manufacturer).This Recall Query has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA15-004) to conduct a comparative assessment and further evaluate the effectiveness of the recall remedy which will include a thorough review of the countermeasures taken by Nissan and its suppliers.The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers:10583283 10585264 10585349 10585379 10592434 10593399 10593501 10594329 10594614 10594755 10595161 10595645 10595946 10596128 10596459 10596952 10597037 10597452 10597518 10597719 10598537 10598869 10604755 10604834 10605188 10605251 10606565 10606828 10607038 10609649 10610519 10610991 10614467 10614609 10614745 10616905 10617008 10617507 10617903 10618099 10618202 10619059 10619563 10620719 10621840 10622214 10625808 10625981 10625998 10626006 10626023 10626335 10626458 10626732 10628355 10629382 10629460 10629606 10630441 10630502 10630990 10632251 10632588 10632934 10632997 10633714 10633810 10637994 10638591 10639040 10639147 10639324 10639473 10643046 10643843 10644203 10644333 10644341 10644690 10644891 10644985 10648834 10648997 10649414 10649772 10649874 10651360 10651564 10651924 10651982 10652024 10658665 10658844 10659484 10660294 10661195 10661358 10661541 10661795 10661855 10662901 10663033 10663338 10663860 10663978 10668054 10668768 10670538 10672807 10673088 10676471 10678478 10678997 10679512 10680748 10680769 10680975 10681656 10682235 10682902 10682993 10683391 10683689 10689672 10689809 10689981 10691626 10692137 10692558 10692625 10693168 10695312 10700614 10700960 10701008 10701011 10701014 10701018 10701023 10701027 10701031 10701032 10701035 10701045 10701055 10701064 10701074 10701146 10701196 10701228 10701237 10701254 10701301 10701306 10701326 10701367 10701370 10701384 10701415 10701453 10701526 10701558 10701656 10701670 10701946 10702003 10702667 10702798 10703032 10703657 10703766 10703813 10704196 10704988 10705530 10705919 10706621 10712543 10712568 10712575 10713335 10714316 10714330 10714536 10714980 10715132 10715945 10717336 10720918 10720971 10721331 10721746 10723424 10724568 10731167 10731868 10732012 10732065

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Nissan as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 2 unique reports alleging inappropriate autonomous brake activation while driving.During PE12-022, Nissan identified a condition in model year (MY) 2013 Infiniti JX 35 that may result in inappropriate autonomous activation of emergency breaking by the Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA). According to Nissan, unique road environment anomalies can affect proper IBA operation and may cause IBA activation where it is not needed.ODI investigators were able to replicate the anomaly and found IBA interventions are extremely brief and may interrupt travelling speeds but do not stop the vehicle. Nissan developed a software countermeasure to address the condition and has initiated a customer satisfaction campaign to reprogram the Radar and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) control units on all affected vehicles. The bulletin was sent to dealers on August 10, 2012 and the owner letter mailing began on September 4, 2012. See the investigative file for copies of Nissan's bulletin and owner letter. The condition represents a low risk to motor vehicle safety and is adequately addressed by Nissan's service campaign. This preliminary evaluation is closed. The ODI reports cited above can be viewed at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers (ODI Nos.): 10465524, 10466330
