I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE (7/8/13 AND 1/6/14) AND WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP STATED THE INFINITI CORPORATE OFFICE FLEW IN A TECHNICIAN TO LOOK AT THE CAR. SINCE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON FOR THEM, THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE ANY PARTS. LIGHT CAME BACK ON WHILE MY SON WAS SEATED IN A PROPER POSITION (INFINITI WAS NICE ENOUGH TO PROVIDE ME WITH A "HOW TO" SIT ON THE SEAT ARTICLE) ON 1/14/14 AND I VIDEOTAPED IT ON MY CELLPHONE FOR PROOF. I WILL BE MAILING A CERTIFIED LETTER TO INFINITI FOR VIOLATION OF THE LEMON LAW SINCE THIS EQUIPMENT FAILURE COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR DEATH. *TR

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINS ON EVEN THOUGH THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. THAT MEANS THAT THE AIR BAG IS NOT OPERATIONAL EVEN THOUGH THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR

WHILE A NORMAL SIZED PERSON WAS IN PASSENGER SEAT, AIR BAG LIGHT TURNED ON, THUS RENDERING AIR BAG OFF AND NON OPERATIONAL IF NEEDED IN A CRASH. ADDITIONALLY, IF A PERSON WAS SEATED IN THE CAR PASSENGER SEAT, GOT OUT OF CAR, AND THEN RETURNED TO SEAT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND RENDER THE AIR BAG NON OPERATIONAL WHEN A NORMAL SIZED PERSON WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. CAR WAS RETURNED TO INFINITY DEALER. THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THESE SITUATIONS. THEY BROUGHT THEIR ENGINEER INTO EVALUATE CAR. HE STATES THE CAR AIR BAG IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, WHEN IT IS CLEARLY NOT. WE WERE TOLD IF A PERSON LEAVES THE VEHICLE AS I DESCRIBED ABOVE. THAT WE NEED TO TURN CAR OFF FOR AIR BAG TO WORK PROPERLY IN THAT SITUATION. IT DOES NOT STATE THIS ANYWHERE IN THE OWNER MANUAL. THEY COMPLETELY IGNORED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG TURNS OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHEN A NORMAL SIZED PERSON IS SEAT IN THE SEAT DESPITE ME TAKING PICTURES OF THAT SCENARIO AND SHOWING THEM VIDEO EVIDENCE THAT IT DOES SUCH. I HAVE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SENSOR RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V069000) IN THE PASSENGER SEAT 3 TIMES WITHOUT FIXING THE DEFECT ON MY CAR. THEY ARE NOW TELLING ME THAT THE AIR BAG IS WORKING PROPERLY, BUT IT IS CLEARLY NOT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NISSAN/INFINITY IS IGNORING. THERE ARE MANY DOCUMENTED CASE REPORTS ON INTERNET OF SAME SITUATION.

THE AIR BAG SENSOR DEACTIVATION LIGHT IN THE INFINITI JX35 COMES ON WHEN MY WIFE (WHO WEIGHTS 130 POUNDS) OR ANY FEMALE PASSENGER OF SIMILAR SIZE SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. SOMETIMES THE AIR BAG DEACTIVATION LIGHT STAYS ON FOR AS LONG AS 15 MINUTES. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT ISSUE EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JULY 2012. NO MATTER HOW MY WIFE SITS, THIS IS A PROBLEM. HOWEVER, WHEN I SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT (I WEIGH 200 POUNDS), THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD COMPLAINT REGARDING THE JX 35 AS EVIDENCED BY A WEB SEARCH. HOWEVER, INFINITI DANGEROUSLY ATTEMPTS TO BLAME IT ON THE WAY PEOPLE SIT IN THE SEAT. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH INFINITI'S OFFICE OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS (CASE #12036945) AND TAKEN THE VEHICLE TWICE TO THE PASSENGER INFINITI IN DEALERSHIP IN ALEXANDRIA WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTION. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN DEFECT WITH THE AIR BAG SENSORS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE AIR BAGS ARE, AT TIMES, DEACTIVATED, FOR PASSENGERS WEIGHING 130 OR EVEN MORE POUNDS. I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE WITH THIS MATTER. *JB

16V244000 · Air Bags:sensor:occupant Classification

Apr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Oct 20, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

The secondary latch may remain in the open position when the hood is closed.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the primary hood latch is released and the secondary latch fails during operation of the vehicle, it could cause the hood to open during vehicle operation impairing the driver's vision, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will modify the angle of the hood release mechanism to provide additional length to the release cable, free of charge. The recall began on March 9, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Aug 14, 2012

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles manufactured from February 15, 2012, through June 22, 2012. In April 2014, Nissan North America launched Safety Recall 14V-138 to address problems with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) algorithm in the following vehicles: model year (MY) 2013-2014 Nissan Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and LEAF; MY 2013 Infiniti JX35; MY 2014 Infiniti QX60 and Q50; and MY 2013 Nissan NV 200/Taxi vehicles.According to Nissan, the OCS may misclassify adult front passenger occupants and turn off the passenger's frontal air bag for an adult occupant of sufficient weight.In March 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query after the agency received approximately 124 complaints alleging problems with the OCS after the recall repairs and/or other OCS related repairs were made by Nissan/Infiniti dealers.The majority of the complaints alleged the passenger air bag status light stays on (i.e., indicating passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers of sufficient weight.Many of the complaints stated the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists.In its June 2015 response to ODI's information request under the Recall Query, Nissan provided approximately 1,121 complaints and field reports on the recalled vehicles.These reports alleged OCS issues similar to the NHTSA reports described above.At this time, NHTSA has received a total of approximately 208 complaints (note: total of 1,271 reports shown in the table above eliminates 58 duplicative reports received by ODI and manufacturer).This Recall Query has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA15-004) to conduct a comparative assessment and further evaluate the effectiveness of the recall remedy which will include a thorough review of the countermeasures taken by Nissan and its suppliers.The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers:10583283 10585264 10585349 10585379 10592434 10593399 10593501 10594329 10594614 10594755 10595161 10595645 10595946 10596128 10596459 10596952 10597037 10597452 10597518 10597719 10598537 10598869 10604755 10604834 10605188 10605251 10606565 10606828 10607038 10609649 10610519 10610991 10614467 10614609 10614745 10616905 10617008 10617507 10617903 10618099 10618202 10619059 10619563 10620719 10621840 10622214 10625808 10625981 10625998 10626006 10626023 10626335 10626458 10626732 10628355 10629382 10629460 10629606 10630441 10630502 10630990 10632251 10632588 10632934 10632997 10633714 10633810 10637994 10638591 10639040 10639147 10639324 10639473 10643046 10643843 10644203 10644333 10644341 10644690 10644891 10644985 10648834 10648997 10649414 10649772 10649874 10651360 10651564 10651924 10651982 10652024 10658665 10658844 10659484 10660294 10661195 10661358 10661541 10661795 10661855 10662901 10663033 10663338 10663860 10663978 10668054 10668768 10670538 10672807 10673088 10676471 10678478 10678997 10679512 10680748 10680769 10680975 10681656 10682235 10682902 10682993 10683391 10683689 10689672 10689809 10689981 10691626 10692137 10692558 10692625 10693168 10695312 10700614 10700960 10701008 10701011 10701014 10701018 10701023 10701027 10701031 10701032 10701035 10701045 10701055 10701064 10701074 10701146 10701196 10701228 10701237 10701254 10701301 10701306 10701326 10701367 10701370 10701384 10701415 10701453 10701526 10701558 10701656 10701670 10701946 10702003 10702667 10702798 10703032 10703657 10703766 10703813 10704196 10704988 10705530 10705919 10706621 10712543 10712568 10712575 10713335 10714316 10714330 10714536 10714980 10715132 10715945 10717336 10720918 10720971 10721331 10721746 10723424 10724568 10731167 10731868 10732012 10732065

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Nissan as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 2 unique reports alleging inappropriate autonomous brake activation while driving.During PE12-022, Nissan identified a condition in model year (MY) 2013 Infiniti JX 35 that may result in inappropriate autonomous activation of emergency breaking by the Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA). According to Nissan, unique road environment anomalies can affect proper IBA operation and may cause IBA activation where it is not needed.ODI investigators were able to replicate the anomaly and found IBA interventions are extremely brief and may interrupt travelling speeds but do not stop the vehicle. Nissan developed a software countermeasure to address the condition and has initiated a customer satisfaction campaign to reprogram the Radar and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) control units on all affected vehicles. The bulletin was sent to dealers on August 10, 2012 and the owner letter mailing began on September 4, 2012. See the investigative file for copies of Nissan's bulletin and owner letter. The condition represents a low risk to motor vehicle safety and is adequately addressed by Nissan's service campaign. This preliminary evaluation is closed. The ODI reports cited above can be viewed at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers (ODI Nos.): 10465524, 10466330
