THIS SAME ISSUE HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 5 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR. BUT 2 TIMES IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. LOW SPEED WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE IN THE ROAD, THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF. HAD TO COAST TO A STOP PUT CAR IN PARK AND THEN RESTART. THE RESTART IS FINE AND THE CAR DRIVES AS NORMAL.

THERE WAS NO WARNING OR INDICATION OF ANY ISSUES UP TO THIS POINT. IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT STARTING THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT FINALLY STARTED AND CONTINUED UNDER ITS OWN POWER. THIS TYPE OF UNEXPLAINED POWER LOSS COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT IS CURRENTLY NOT INDICATING ANY PROBLEMS SO I DOUBT IF THERE ARE ANY TROUBLE CODES STORED. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE NEW AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND NEVER IN A ACCIDENT. *TR

MY 2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS 6 CYLINDER SEDAN HAS STALLED SINCE I BOUGHT IT (LEASED) NEW TWO YEARS AGO. EACH TIME I GO TO THE DEALER (OIL CHANGES, ETC.) AND ASK THEM ABOUT IT THEY SAY THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND SINCE THEY CANNOT RECREATE IT WHEN THEY DRIVE THE CAR THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. JUST A SHORT TIME AGO MY FAMILY AND I WERE ALMOST IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT - THERE ALMOST CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY IF I HAD NOT LEFT ENOUGH ROOM WHEN TURNING LEFT IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON A STATE HIGHWAY. AS WITH ALL BUT ONE OF ABOUT 8 STALLS THE ENGINE CUTS OUT AS THE CAR SLOWS TO AT OR JUST BELOW 5 MPH. THIS TIME ONCOMING TRAFFIC CLEARED ME BY INCHES AS I MUSCLED THE TURN WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THE CAR COASTED TO SAFETY. THIS HAS BECOME UNBEARABLE. I WILL BE GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THIS CAR STICKERED AT $45K - I HAVE HAD MORE EXPENSIVE AND COMPARABLY PRICED CARS, AUDI, BMW, CADILLAC, ETC., BUT HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS! IT DID STALL ONCE AT 45 MPH BUT ALL OTHER STALLS HAVE BEEN AT THE POINT OF ALMOST STOPPING OR, IN TONIGHT'S CASE, DECELERATING SOMEWHAT RAPIDLY AS IN A LEFT TURN FROM 55 MPH. PLEASE HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING SPECIFIC ON-LINE ALTHOUGH APPARENTLY ELANTRA'S HAVE THE SAME ISSUE(?). HAVE FOUND A FEW POSTINGS FROM OTHER GENESIS OWNERS, BUT I CANNOT FOLLOW THEM - I AM NOT A MECHANIC - THEY TALK ABOUT TURNING "ESC" ON AND/OR OFF; WHICH I KNOW IS ELECTRONIC STABILIZATION CONTROL, BUT, I AM NOT COMFORTABLE TRYING TO STRONG ARM A SOLUTION - ESPECIALLY FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR. AGAIN, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WILL GO TO DEALERSHIP AGAIN, BUT I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO SAY...WHAT ELSE CAN/SHOULD I DO? *TR

THE COMMON DENOMINATOR FOR WHAT I EXPERIENCED HAS BEEN THAT THE CAR IS MOVING SLOWLY, 5-20 MPH (7TH OR 8TH GEAR), AND YOU FLOOR THE ACCELERATOR WHILE CHANGING THE LANE (TO MERGE QUICKLY). ALL THAT HAPPENS FOR 1-2 SECONDS IS THAT THE CAR COASTS AT THE SPEED YOU WERE GOING (ABSOLUTELY NO POWER IS APPLIED TO THE WHEELS), AND YOU SEE THE REVS GOING UP AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING TO A LOWER AND LOWER GEAR (BUT NOT SENDING ANY OF THAT POWER TO THE WHEELS), UNTIL IT GETS TO THE 2ND OR 3RD GEAR AND THEN YOUR HEAD SNAPS BACK AS IT ACCELERATES VERY QUICKLY (BUT 2 SECONDS TOO LATE). SO INSTEAD OF THE EXPECTED TAKEOFF YOU GET 2 SECONDS OF COASTING WHILE THE CAR IN THE LANE THAT YOU GOT INTO IS GETTING UNCOMFORTABLY CLOSE AND HAS TO BRAKE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNEXPECTED. *TR

IN 2011 I LEASED A 2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS. ON JANUARY 25.2013 WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED. I CALLED AAA, THEY CAME OUT AND DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON MY BATTERY AND TOLD ME IT WAS FINE, THAT SOMETHING IN THE COMPUTER, MOST LIKELY THE ALTERNATOR WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. ON JUNE 9TH 2013 WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I CAME TO A STOP AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 3 MORE MILES AT 45 MPH, MY VEHICLE AGAIN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, NO STEERING NO BRAKES. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP I PROCEEDED TO THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION AND AGAIN CONTACTED AAA. THEY CAME OUT, DID A CHECK ON MY BATTERY AND TOLD ME THE SAME THING, SOMETHING IN THE SYSTEM IS DRAINING THE BATTERY. ON JULY 8TH 2013 IT HAPPENED AGAIN. AAA CAME OUT JUMP STARTED MY CAR AND ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I DROVE MY CAR TO PLANET HYUNDAI ON .W. SAHARA AVE. IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA AND TOLD THEM OF MY PROBLEM, I LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH THEM. THE NEXT DAY THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. I MADE THEM AWARE OF THE STALLING IN TRAFFIC ISSUE WEEKS BEFORE, I SPOKE WITH A CERTIFIED TECH WHO TOLD ME IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT A BATTERY ISSUE AND THAT PERSON CALLED HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND TOLD THEM THE SAME THING. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH JACQUELINE WHO AFTER CONFERRING WITH PLANET HYUNDAI TOLD ME THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING. TO WORK WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THE HEAD OF THE SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THAT THE GENESIS HAS A SOPHISTICATED COMPUTER AND THESE THINGS COULD HAPPEN, THEY TESTED THE CAR AND COULD FIND NOTHING AND WOULD PROVIDE NO FURTHER EXPLANATION.. I TOLD HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE,. HYUNDAI PROVIDED ME WITH A CASE FILE # 5871296, I REQUESTED THEY SEND IT TO ME. *TR

16V117000 · Visibility:windshield Wiper/washer:motor

Feb 29, 2016

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2012 Genesis vehicles manufactured August 1, 2011, to April 30, 2012, and 2011-2013 Equus vehicles manufactured July 10, 2011, to June 12, 2012. The windshield wiper motor cover seal on the affected vehicles may degrade allowing corrosion on the wiper motor's circuit board. The corrosion can cause intermittent or total loss of wiper function.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Inoperative wipers during inclement weather can decrease driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper motor cover and seal, free of charge. The recall began on April 22, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 140.

On October 28, 2013, Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA describing a safety defect in the braking system of approximately 43,500 model year (MY) 2009 through 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedans (NHTSA Recall No. 13V-489).The Hyundai report indicates that the recalled vehicles may contain brake fluid that does not sufficiently inhibit corrosion on the zinc plating of control valve armatures in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) module. The DIR indicated that, over time, the build-up of corrosion products may affect operation of HECU control valves, resulting in a low/soft brake pedal with reduced brake effectiveness, which may increase the risk of a crash. In October 2011, the HECU supplier notified Hyundai that the brake fluid used in production plants was causing corrosion of valve armatures in the control module. The supplier changed the coating of the valve armatures in late March 2012 to correct the problem in production vehicles.Hyundai's recall includes Genesis vehicles produced prior to the implementation of the HECU change. In March 2013, Hyundai initiated a Service Campaign (TL6) to replace brake fluid in the subject vehicles with brake fluid with better corrosion resistance properties.According to Hyundai's DIR letter, after PE13-033 was opened, the company noted that some of the vehicles serviced in the TL6 campaign subsequently required HECU replacement. This was an indication that internal corrosion had progressed enough to affect valve operation and brake performance, prompting Hyundai to conduct a safety recall.Hyundai's repair procedures for 13V-489 require brake system flushing and replacement in all recalled vehicles with a new fluid containing the necessary corrosion inhibitor. In addition, for vehicles produced prior to June 1, 2010, dealers will perform an inspection procedure to verify that the HECU is functioning properly and replace units that do not meet the test requirements.Hyundai indicated that, based on analysis of claim data, only vehicles produced prior to June 1, 2010 have been in service long enough to require the additional inspection/replacement of the HECU. Analysis of failure data reported to NHTSA and provided by Hyundai in response to ODI's information request letter for PE13-033 identified 756 complaints and 1,683 warranty claims for 30,114 subject vehicles produced prior to June 1, 2010, resulting in a complaint rate of 25.1 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) and a claim rate of 5.6 percent. The MY 2009 vehicles, with the longest exposure times, experienced the highest complaint (33.5 IPTV) and warranty (7.0 percent) rates. For the 45,639 subject vehicles produced after June 1, 2010, ODI identified 13 complaints and 34 warranty claims, resulting in a complaint rate of 0.3 IPTV and a warranty claim rate of 0.1 percent, indicating that the brake fluid corrosion concern had not progressed far enough to result in significant rates of brake system performance symptoms in those vehicles. This investigation is closed.ODI will continue to monitor complaints to evaluate the effectiveness of Hyundai's recall. The VOQs noted in the Failure Report are: 10569231, 10560898, 10560495, 10559360, 10558279, 10558264, 10556964, 10556631, 10556577, 10556322, 10554988, 10554802, 10554122, 10552958, 10551817, 10551157, 10551110, 10551092, 10550791, 10550773, 10550431, 10549750, 10549634, 10549629, 10549567, 10549402, 10549376, 10549270, 10549228, 10549186, 10549021, 10548903, 10548823, 10548791, 10548737, 10548722, 10548716, 10548705, 10546565, 10544803, 10543663, 10542962, 10541959, 10541741, 10538208, 10537934, 10536652, 105354
