The dash cover on my 2009 Genesis 4-door Sedan has developed large cracks where the passenger side air bag is located. The concern is that this may cause the air bag to deploy inadvertently or increase the chance of flying shrapnel if/when the air bag should deploy during an accident. This problem started around 90,000 miles and has continued to get worse (The vehicle currently has approximately 125,000 miles). I took the vehicle to the dealer when the problem first appeared, but was told it was not a safety concern, and that it was not covered under the warranty. However, I feel this in fact could cause injury to anyone riding in the front passenger seat. 1 picture is attached.

"I WAS SUBJECTED TO A SUDDEN ACCELERATION LAST NIGHT WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS 4.6. I LEFT A FULL STOP AND SIGHTED ANOTHER CAR SPEEDING TOWARD A STOP SIGN COMING FROM MY LEFT. TO AVOID BEING BROADSIDED I SWERVED TO AVOID AND MY ACCELERATOR JAMMED. I SPED ACROSS THE STREET AND INTO A LANDSCAPED AREA. I HIT A TREE AT THAT POINT WHICH BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND I WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT. I SUSTAINED SOME IMPACT INJURIES THAT APPEAR TO BE OF A MINOR NATURE. A LAKE WAS LOCATED JUST BEYOND THE TREE AND I DELIBERATELY SELECTED THE MEDIUM SIZE TREE AS A TARGET. I WAS FORTUNATE. I SUSTAINED A BACK INJURY SOME YEARS AGO AND DRIVE WITH TWO FEET - ONE FOR THE ACCELERATOR AND ONE FOR THE BRAKE. THERE WAS THEREFORE NO CHANCE THAT MY FOOT SLIPPED FROM ONE PEDAL TO THE OTHER. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE, I HAVE FILED AT LEAST 4 COMPLAINTS CONCERNING A "SOFT PEDAL " ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS INSPECTED MY VEHICLE RECENTLY AS WELL AS HYUNDAI AMERICA AND I AM STILL AWAITING A RESPONSE AS TO WHAT WAS FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED ON 1/22/2014. NOTE ON SERVICE INVOICE STATES " DPSM HAS BEEN OUT TO DRIVE AND INSPECT VEHICLE. NO PERSON FROM PARKWAY HYUNDAI CAN GIVE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. THIS IS A MATTER FOR HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA." IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS SINCE THE INSPECTION AND HMA HAS STILL NOT CONTACTED ME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS WEBSITE BUT IT NOLONGER SHOWS THE GENESIS UNDER HYUNDAI IF SEARCHING FOR COMPLAINTS,RECALLS OR INVESTIGATION. AS WE APPROACH THIS HOLIDAY PERIOD I HOPE THAT THERE ARE NO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF THE "SOFT PEDAL" ISSUE AS WELL AS A READ COLLISION AT LOW SPEED THAT TRIGGERS THE HEAD SEAT RESTRAINT TO DEPLOY AND THROWS BOTH FRONT SEAT PASSENGERS FORWARD AND THE SEAT BELTS WON'T DEPLOY AT THIS LOW SPEED. JUST ANOTHER COMPLAINT THAT HASN'T BEEN ADDRESS. IS THE NHTSA OVERLOADED WITH ALL THE RECALLS FROM INDICATION OVER THE YEARS. GM AS AN EXAMPLE. *TR

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

On October 28, 2013, Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA describing a safety defect in the braking system of approximately 43,500 model year (MY) 2009 through 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedans (NHTSA Recall No. 13V-489).The Hyundai report indicates that the recalled vehicles may contain brake fluid that does not sufficiently inhibit corrosion on the zinc plating of control valve armatures in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) module. The DIR indicated that, over time, the build-up of corrosion products may affect operation of HECU control valves, resulting in a low/soft brake pedal with reduced brake effectiveness, which may increase the risk of a crash. In October 2011, the HECU supplier notified Hyundai that the brake fluid used in production plants was causing corrosion of valve armatures in the control module. The supplier changed the coating of the valve armatures in late March 2012 to correct the problem in production vehicles.Hyundai's recall includes Genesis vehicles produced prior to the implementation of the HECU change. In March 2013, Hyundai initiated a Service Campaign (TL6) to replace brake fluid in the subject vehicles with brake fluid with better corrosion resistance properties.According to Hyundai's DIR letter, after PE13-033 was opened, the company noted that some of the vehicles serviced in the TL6 campaign subsequently required HECU replacement. This was an indication that internal corrosion had progressed enough to affect valve operation and brake performance, prompting Hyundai to conduct a safety recall.Hyundai's repair procedures for 13V-489 require brake system flushing and replacement in all recalled vehicles with a new fluid containing the necessary corrosion inhibitor. In addition, for vehicles produced prior to June 1, 2010, dealers will perform an inspection procedure to verify that the HECU is functioning properly and replace units that do not meet the test requirements.Hyundai indicated that, based on analysis of claim data, only vehicles produced prior to June 1, 2010 have been in service long enough to require the additional inspection/replacement of the HECU. Analysis of failure data reported to NHTSA and provided by Hyundai in response to ODI's information request letter for PE13-033 identified 756 complaints and 1,683 warranty claims for 30,114 subject vehicles produced prior to June 1, 2010, resulting in a complaint rate of 25.1 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) and a claim rate of 5.6 percent. The MY 2009 vehicles, with the longest exposure times, experienced the highest complaint (33.5 IPTV) and warranty (7.0 percent) rates. For the 45,639 subject vehicles produced after June 1, 2010, ODI identified 13 complaints and 34 warranty claims, resulting in a complaint rate of 0.3 IPTV and a warranty claim rate of 0.1 percent, indicating that the brake fluid corrosion concern had not progressed far enough to result in significant rates of brake system performance symptoms in those vehicles. This investigation is closed.ODI will continue to monitor complaints to evaluate the effectiveness of Hyundai's recall. The VOQs noted in the Failure Report are: 10569231, 10560898, 10560495, 10559360, 10558279, 10558264, 10556964, 10556631, 10556577, 10556322, 10554988, 10554802, 10554122, 10552958, 10551817, 10551157, 10551110, 10551092, 10550791, 10550773, 10550431, 10549750, 10549634, 10549629, 10549567, 10549402, 10549376, 10549270, 10549228, 10549186, 10549021, 10548903, 10548823, 10548791, 10548737, 10548722, 10548716, 10548705, 10546565, 10544803, 10543663, 10542962, 10541959, 10541741, 10538208, 10537934, 10536652, 105354
