On August 23, 2026, I was backing my 2026 Honda Prologue Touring out of a parking space at a Costco parking lot in Cedar Park. I was reversing very slowly, at below walking speed, and repeatedly applying light brake pressure because of interruptions and pedestrian traffic in the lot. While reversing in this manner, the vehicle abruptly and forcefully applied the brakes on its own. The braking was violent enough that I initially believed I had struck an object. There was no vehicle, pedestrian, cart, or obstacle behind me, and no vehicle was crossing behind me from either direction. Conditions were daylight, warm and dry. The electric parking brake did not engage, and no warning message or fault light appeared before, during, or after the event. The vehicle operated normally afterward. An unexpected hard stop while reversing risks injury to occupants and creates a risk of being struck by a following or crossing vehicle. This is one of two uncommanded braking events on this vehicle; I am filing a separate complaint regarding a forward automatic braking event. Mileage at time of incident: approximately 1,600. The vehicle has no open recalls and has not yet been inspected by a dealer.

In approximately early August 2026 (exact date not recorded), while driving my 2026 Honda Prologue Touring at approximately 20–30 mph on a surface street, the vehicle's forward automatic braking system activated without warning and braked hard to a near stop. There was no vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist, or obstacle in front of me. I was approaching a pedestrian crossing that was empty at the time. Conditions were daylight and warm, dry weather. The deceleration was violent enough that I was thrown forward against the seat belt. My foot was resting lightly on the brake pedal as I approached the crossing, but I did not brake hard — the sudden, forceful braking was initiated by the vehicle, not by me. The vehicle did not come to a complete stop and the electric parking brake did not engage. No warning message or fault light appeared before, during, or after the event, and the vehicle continued to operate normally afterward. This behavior creates a serious risk of a rear-end collision. The vehicle had fewer than 1,000 miles at the time of the incident. It has no open recalls, and the dealer has not yet inspected it.

While approaching traffic light at approx 4-5 mph the vehicle slammed to a dead stop with a car length between us and the next vehicle. This was not the auto stop feature and it automatically engaged the parking brake while moving causing whiplash To myself and 2 additional passengers. Causing neck and back injuries. The vehicle was coming to a stop with the assistance of the one pedal drive braking at approximately 5 mph and suddenly while slowing down with more than adequate distance it slammed to a dead stop violently and unexpectedly throwing my passengers and I against our seatbelts causing injuries. Several other occasions the vehicle has had phantom emergency braking with no obstacles, vehicles or pedestrians near it but at slower speeds and did not cause as much trauma. This event was significant and all 3 parties myself included are experiencing pain related to the event.

The braking was so hard my body jerked! This is the second time the emergency braking engaged sudden. The first time a vehicle was near and the warning light did indicate vehicle but not close enough for the braking system to engage. It could have caused the vehicle to hit me from the rear if it was closer.

There is a serious issue with the adaptive cruise control braking when nothing is in the driving path of the vehicle. This issue happens a both slow and fast speeds creating a dangerous driving condition for myself and those around me. It happens almost daily when I use it. For instance, if I set the cruise to 25MPH and the road turns it will slow down for vehicles parked in driveways, and while going straight it will alert me to brake for parked on the left or right. While going faster like 45MPH, it has hard braked many times for vehicles outside my lane or on the side of the road. This creates a situation where people have to avoid me and is probably unexpected and scary for them and a concern of being rear ended. I have driven several vehicles with adaptive cruise control and this has been much worse than the similar issues I’ve experienced in them as well. This issue is happening consistently and on well marked roads when conditions are right where there are vehicles around stopped or in turn lanes or driving through neighborhoods for vehicles in driveways.
