I had a connecting rod bearing failure. Thjs failure is exactly the same as the issue being investigated by NHTSA currently for modek year 2020 Honda Pilots. My car had 93k miles on it at the time of failure although I complained to my dealer as far back as September 2022 of hearing engine knock occasionally. The repair cost me $8700 not to mention the loss of my car for 10 days. The incident happened when I was on a family vacation and I had to have the car repaired at a dealer 200 miles away. I went to Honda America seeking some assistance given their current recall per bulletin 24-001, even though my car was beyond the model year range. The failure was exactly the same as that described in the bulletin. I have a record of oil changes on my car for the last 4 years. I typically change oil at 5000 mile intervals.

My 2022 Honda Pilot developed an intermittent failure of the multipurpose forward camera used by the Honda Sensing system. Multiple dashboard warnings appeared simultaneously, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Auto High Beam, Blind Spot Information, and a Brake System warning. The vehicle’s normal brakes continued to function, but the affected driver-assistance and collision-avoidance features became unavailable. A Honda dealership diagnosed DTC U3000-49, documented as an internal failure of the multipurpose camera, and recommended replacement and aiming/calibration of the camera. The quoted repair cost was $2,356.95 plus tax. The failure is intermittent. On one occasion, all warning lights disappeared after starting the vehicle and the Honda Sensing safety features operated normally. After the vehicle was shut off and restarted, the warnings returned and the safety features were again unavailable. Honda declined my request for goodwill assistance and advised that this is not considered a known camera problem. I am reporting this because failure of a single camera disables multiple collision-avoidance and driver-assistance safety systems. I am concerned that other 2022 Honda Pilot owners may experience the same U3000-49 multipurpose-camera failure.

Under Honda recall 26V-365 our 2022 Honda Pilot has a rear subframe that was not properly manufactured with the proper paint and corrosion protection. Honda has admitted this. Therefore, Honda is saying the subframe may rust at the mounting points. They are putting braces at these points in case they rust. We do not want Honda simply drilling and riveting brackets onto our rear subframe. This is unacceptable when it comes to our families' safety. We do not want to be driving a vehicle where eventually only brackets are holding our suspension together. What about the rest of the subframe?? This will eventually rust out and become unsafe. Honda admitted they manufactured our subframe with improper paint and corrosion protection. They changed their manufacturing process in August, 2022 (improved pre-paint treatment process) and January, 2023 (coating thickness) was increased. This happened AFTER our car was manufactured. The only responsible remedy for our car is to install a new rear subframe that was manufactured under the new process. Why would you allow Honda to do this to so many families?? People's safety should come before Honda's costs being kept low and allowing them to repair this admitted manufacturing error. We want a new rear subframe installed into the car we paid over $40,000 dollars for as we retired and expected to last a long time. DEMAND Honda replace the rear subframe and not just install a bracket. Look out for the people not the corporations. Help us!!

I came to a complete stop at a red light. The car went into neutral and shut off completely. In order to restart the car, I had to put it in park to completely restart it in traffic. This same thing has now happened multiple times and each time it does, it comes shortly before the battery fails and will not start the car at all. I have been through 3 AGM Platinum batteries in the past year. Something is draining the battery. The starter, alternator and auxiliary battery have each been tested in the course of taking the vehicle to 3 different auto mechanics before going to the Honda dealership. All of them said these components tested fine (and they were tested under load). Honda acted like they didn't know about this being a common problem and suggested we replace the starter as an experimental remedy. We asked the Honda dealership for the software update fix and were told we already had the 23-008 update. However, after more research realize that it also needs a 23-009 and 23-010 update as well which was not offered. Honda's failure to take responsibility on this known chronic problem is disappointing at best and likely negligent/reckless.

This has happened numerous times to myself and family members driving the car. The car just stops and shuts off. Very dangerous when other cars are behind you.

My 2022 Honda Pilot Black Edition (VIN [XXX], 62,900 miles) has multiple intermittent safety‑critical failures involving the transmission, acceleration, adaptive cruise control, and HVAC blower. These issues occur without warning and without diagnostic trouble codes. Transmission/Acceleration Failure: Most recent incident was XXX on Highway 71 during heavy traffic. The vehicle twice experienced rapid deceleration with no ability to reach a safety stop. RPM dropped below 1000, then spiked to 6,000–8,000 while the vehicle continued to lose speed. Acceleration returned only after several seconds. This also occurs during highway merging and uphill acceleration. Additionally, when disengaging cruise control and immediately pressing the accelerator, the vehicle loses speed, RPM drops abnormally low, then spikes before power returns. Adaptive Cruise Control/Honda Sensing Failure: On XXX the vehicle rapidly decelerated when a semi‑truck was beside me, despite no vehicle ahead. The week prior, while driving several states away, setting cruise at 70 mph caused sudden deceleration and cruise resetting itself to ~54 mph. These events resemble phantom braking and radar mis‑targeting. HVAC Blower Failure: During a long multi‑state trip the week prior, the AC blower (speed 3–4) intermittently stopped blowing for several seconds, then resumed at the same speed with no change to the display. These failures affect powertrain, forward collision avoidance, vehicle speed control, electrical systems, and cabin equipment. The dealership (Roush Honda, Westerville OH) cannot replicate the issues and reports no stored codes. These defects pose significant safety risks. The rear subframe may corrode at the suspension mounting points, which can result in rear suspension component failure.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Failure of rear suspension components, such as the rear control arm, can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear subframe and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit and, as necessary, repair or replace the rear subframe components, free of charge. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the MOST cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are EEL, ZEM, and SFC.

The complaints allege that the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 3.5L engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On January 6, 2023, Honda released service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. These service bulletins address the failure to restart issue in the 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles, as well as the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2019-2022 Honda Passport, and 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The repair outlined in the service bulletins is a two-stage countermeasure to remedy the issue. The first stage is a Programmed Fuel Injection (“PGM-FI”) software update. The second stage is only deployed if the software update fails to remedy the issue. The second stage, depending on the model and model year, consists of replacement of the starter assembly, starter relays, and a valve adjustment.
