TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HONDA PILOT. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CONTACT'S WIFE ADJUSTED THE SUN VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE AIR BAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT DROVE TO AN UNKNOWN CHEVROLET DEALER TO TRY TO GET THE AIR BAGS TO DEFLATE. THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A PAIR OF SCISSORS TO PUNCTURE AND COMPLETELY DEFLATE THE AIR BAGS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL BACK IN A FEW DAYS. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO O'MALLEY HONDA (3405 STEWART AVE, WAUSAU, WI 54401, (715) 842-2131). THE MANUFACTURER CALLED BACK AND ASKED THE CONTACT IF HE STRUCK SOMETHING, TO WHICH THE CONTACT DENIED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY FOUND A MARK ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE NEXT TO THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE CONTACT DID NOT RECALL STRIKING ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND PICTURES TO THE MANUFACTURER AND CALL BACK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

2015 PILOT BEGAN HEARING OINKING SOUNDS AT 22K MILES (3/18). DEALERSHIP COULDN'T "REPLICATE" SO THEY TIGHTEN SUSP. BOLTS. I CONTINUED TO HEAR NOISE BUT SOUND INCREASED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AT 32K MILES (1/2019) MADE THEM ROAD TEST WITH ME. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE FRONT STABILIZER BAR LINK. DROVE OFF LOT SOUND STILL THERE, RETURNED AGAIN. FINALLY THEY REPLACED BALL JOINTS. THE SOUND IS GONE. I COULD HAVE BEEN DEAD AS THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE IF THEY HAD COME OFF. OF COURSE DIAGNOSIS OCCURRED JUST AFTER WARRANTY ENDED. SO SAD FOR HONDA ON PRODUCT THAT IS NO LONGER SAFE AND YOU WANT THE CUSTOMER TO PAY FOR YOUR INCOMPETENCE. REPAIR COST ME $821.

RQ24013 · Engine Failure

Opened Nov 8, 2024 · Closed Aug 20, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Engine

On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation.  NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
