On September 14, 2026, my 2020 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden, severe low-pressure fuel pump failure while idling/parked. The engine began running extremely rough, surging repeatedly between 300 RPM and 1,000 RPM, knocking, and stalling. I was parked at the time, preventing a severe accident. Upon trying to restart, the vehicle turned over multiple times and would only catch when depressing the accelerator pedal, accompanied by cylinder knocking and an engine thermal spike. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair facility (Tuffy Auto Service). The diagnostic scan confirmed DTC P0087 (Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low). A mechanical gauge test showed the low-side fuel pressure dropped to 10 PSI (far below the standard operating pressure of 50–60 PSI). The shop verified that the in-tank low-pressure fuel pump assembly failed internally and requires complete replacement. This failure, symptom pattern, diagnostic code (P0087), and component match the exact defect profile in NHTSA Recall 23V-858 (Denso Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Impeller Failure). However, when checking my VIN, American Honda claims this specific vehicle is excluded from the recall range. American Honda Consumer Relations subsequently refused goodwill assistance due to non-dealer service history and vehicle resale status. This creates a severe safety hazard. A vehicle experiencing a sudden drop to 10 PSI fuel pressure while driving in traffic will lose motive power, stall unexpectedly, and disable power steering and braking assist. I am submitting this report because American Honda has failed to include all affected production batches in Recall 23V-858. I request NHTSA expand Recall 23V-858 to include out-of-range 2020 Honda Odyssey VINs exhibiting identical low-side fuel pump failures.

They were all warnings related to the automatic safety features such as lane departure, collision detection, auto bright lights, etc.I took it to the dealer on 9/4/26 & they diagnosed an internal failure with a multi-purpose camera embedded in the rearview mirror. The dealer ordered a new part, installed and reprogrammed and recalibrated the camera. This vehicle has been owned only by me, is kept in a garage away from weather exposure, there is no reason for this part to fail on a 6 year old car with a hefty cost to the consumer.

I am writing to issue a formal complaint regarding gross negligence, logistics failures, and deceptive service practices surrounding mandatory recall work on my 2020 Honda Odyssey. 1. Failure to Complete Recall Software Work After Overnight Retention On Tuesday, September 1, your service department texted stating: "the software update did not finish. We do need it overnight." We agreed to leave the vehicle. However, upon pickup, the infotainment display confirmed that the update was never completed and remains stuck at Step 5/6 (System Update 24084.7 / Front Control Box B.1.4.6). Retaining a customer's vehicle overnight under the guise of completing software work and returning it unfinished is a direct misrepresentation of labor performed. 2. Extreme Logistics Failure and Disregard for Customer Time At 12:55 PM on Wednesday, September 2, your department texted: "Ready to go now!" My wife arrived promptly, yet your staff forced her to wait until 2:40 PM—nearly two hours later—before physically releasing the car. This gross delay caused her to miss our children’s school pickup, forcing me to leave my workplace unexpectedly to handle child transportation due to your operational incompetence. 3. Cascading Network Faults and Critical Safety Systems Disabled Prior to service, the dashboard displayed minor Sensing suite warnings, for which your department quoted an exorbitant $250 diagnostic fee. Upon picking up the vehicle, the dashboard warning count escalated from 5 to approximately 9 active system failures. Due to the interrupted ECU software installation corrupting the CAN-BUS network, the following primary vehicle controls are now completely inoperable: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS / Airbag) (Newly triggered post-service) Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) System Automatic Brake Hold System Electric Parking Brake (EPB) System Electric Power Steering (EPS) Hill Start Assist Honda Sensing Suite (Lane Departure, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure) Releas

Safety mitigation compoments failure that started as intermitent issues and now is consistent. Warning lights come on for Adaptive cruise control failure, Forward collision failure, Lane departure warning failure, high beam failure, lane keep assist failure and others all link back to the DTC U3000-49 internal multipurpose camera unit failure. This compenet failure puts all oppcpants and other vehicles at risk as driver have become reliant on all feature working properly to enhance safety for all. The problem has been diagnose and inspected by two different dealerships. No accident or vehicle comprimised, the camera component just fails and have talked to two other familes that have had same issue. The issues started as a inteitent flsh of all the warning lights and that moved to a constant issue. Currently you can drive the vehicle for a various amount of time and eventually the lights will go on or the dash will be lit up like a christmas tree as soon as you turn it on. Concerned as this is a vehicle that a majority of Moms and kids drive in, as is the case for our familiy.

PE25018 · Inadvertent Deployment Of Side Air Bags

Opened Oct 28, 2025 · Closed Jun 25, 2026

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags; Air Bags:sensor:side Impact; Air Bags:side/window

On October 28, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE25018 to investigate complaints of inadvertent deployment of the side curtain and/or side thorax air bags. These complaints concern model year (MY) 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co. (Honda). Honda issued recall 26V227 on April 9, 2026, to address concerns of inadvertent side air bag deployment. In the recall filing, the company stated that “[a]s of April 2, 2026, Honda has had 130 warranty claims, 25 reports of an injury, and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017 – April 2, 2026.” Honda states that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side thorax and side curtain air bags, which may cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle encounters strong road impacts, such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. Honda stated that the SRS control logic for the second and third rows of seating contained an insufficient deployment threshold margin, allowing signal inputs to be misinterpreted as side impacts and causing inadvertent deployment of the side thorax and side curtain air bags. Recall 26V227 states that dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved air bag deployment parameters. Consumers received notice of this recall in late May 2026. In view of the recall being conducted by Honda, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (PE). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. PE25008 · Engine Failure

Opened Aug 20, 2025 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Engine

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 414 reports of connecting rod bearing failures in the 3.5L V6 engine used in the following vehicles: Model Years (MY) 2018-2020 Acura TLX, MY2016-2020 Acura MDX, MY2016-2020 Honda Pilot, MY2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, and MY2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline.  The subject engine failures were analyzed as part of a Recall Query (RQ24013).  It was determined that these engine failures are outside the scope of Honda Recall 23V-751. Further, evidence gathered in conjunction with RQ24013 does not suggest this failure is caused by the same crankshaft manufacturing defect that is addressed by Honda in Recall 23V-751.  Based on analysis of data from RQ24013, NHTSA has closed that investigation. The significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of RQ24013 presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation.  ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues.  To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

RQ24013 · Engine Failure

Opened Nov 8, 2024 · Closed Aug 20, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Engine

On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation.  NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
