Assuming it was fuel/air/electrical in nature, the spark plugs, and fuel injector were changed and air intake and upper valves were cleaned of carbon build up. All gaskets replaced by new. Discovered and replaced a bad egr valve. Last codes that the car displayed before towing to dealer were many misfire codes and 2 engine/transmission communication errors. Dealer shop discovered air fuel ratio of 1.35 and checked all work before. Discovered fuel pooling and some shiny areas in the engine from scoping it. Decided that if was a bad engine with internal failure and transmission. Quoted me $17000 (about the same value as the vehicle if it was jn very good condition) for a new engine and transmission or $6800 for a used engine alone at risk of replacing transmission as well assuming communication errors do not go way or transmission fails further. I have called honda corporate my reference # 16624114. I requested goodwill repair due to recalls and class action lawsuits related to connecting rods in engines of similar cars and model years. And transmissions recalls for similar cars and model years. Goodwill is unlikely but pending.

The rear latch on the passenger sliding door has stopped latching. The part seems rusted out, and the door doesn't stay closed. It actually slid open a few inches while we were driving. The door does not stay latched. Our daughter was sitting next to the door and was afraid of falling out.

All of a sudden for no reason, error messages starting showing up on the dashboard. Such as: blind spot info system problem, lane keeping assist problem, transmission system problem, and others. The car runs fine. I took it to my local shop and they put a new battery in. At first the lights went out but then they came back. So I took it to the Honda dealership. They ran diagnostics and tell me the multipurpose camera needs to be replaced. At a cost of $1,996.00. I asked if the camera can just be taken out, but have been told that is not an option. Obviously many of the security features are tied to this device. We are taking an out of state trip this weekend to a family wedding so must get this fixed this week. I’m not comfortable driving the car that far in this condition. There were absolutely no problems with the car beforehand. It happened two days ago on Sat 8/29/26. We were returning from a day trip about 70 miles from home. When these error messages started popping up, the car was running fine and continued to do so.

From the date of purchase, the central display / infotainment screen intermittently turns off or loses connection (Pictures of different messages appearing on the screen attached). When this happens, I lose the rearview backup camera, GPS, radio, and the entire rear entertainment system, for which I paid a significant extra amount. While the vehicle was still under factory warranty, I reported this exact problem during my first and second service visits at Honda Canyon. On both occasions, the service advisor stated they "could not replicate the problem. I specifically asked: "What happens if this gets worse after warranty expires?" Your employee told me verbally that since the issue was documented as in the system, Honda would take care of it without charge. On XXX they did a software update (Invoice attached). After that, the problem got worse. Current situation: The problem has now gotten much worse - the screen is unusable most of the time, creating a safety risk when backing up without a camera. On XXX, I met with Service Manager Mark Wiseman at Honda Canyon. I provided printed photos of the different error messages shown on the screen. I left the vehicle for 10 days. No loaner was provided. Mr. [XXX] told me upon pickup that his technicians drove the vehicle "several times" and were able to see the messages but could not get the diagnostic code they needed. He stated he believes the issue is a device in the rear of the van. However, when I compared the mileage, the van was driven only 0.6 miles in 10 days, contradicting the statement that it was driven several times. Most concerning, Honda Canyon now claims their system shows no record that I complained about this problem while the vehicle was under warranty, despite two prior complaints. This is a pre-existing defect, reported under warranty, and is related to the known infotainment / MOST bus issues on 2018-2019 Odyssey models. The loss of the rearview camera is also a federal safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AC

On 8.1.26, while operating my 2019 Honda Odyssey, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic, un-commanded automatic emergency braking event followed by a total failure of the brake-release fail-safe mechanisms. While driving in active traffic, the vehicle's forward-facing sensor system suffered a false-alarm trigger. Due to a severe design and component vulnerability, the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) switch suffered a simultaneous internal mechanical and electronic hardware failure. Because the EPB switch failed internally at the exact moment of the automatic braking event, the system failed to command a brake release. The vehicle’s wheels locked completely, leaving the vehicle completely immobilized in active traffic. This multi-system failure resulted in an immediate, life-threatening crash hazard. By random circumstance and the grace of God, a catastrophic rear-end collision was avoided, but this was a severe near-fatal safety event. A professional automotive diagnostic scan confirmed that the vehicle's computer retained 2 distinct fault incident codes documenting the internal hardware failure of the EPB switch. The dealership confirmed that the system provides absolutely no advance warning to the driver, and fails entirely "in the event," meaning the vehicle remains safe until it suddenly and unpredictably locks the brakes on the highway. The vehicle was repaired out-of-pocket for $297 to replace the defective switch. I am filing this complaint because an internal electronic switch failure must never result in an un-commanded, un-releasable wheel lockup while a vehicle is in motion. This indicates a fatal flaw in Honda's braking fail-safe architecture. This issue must be investigated immediately before it results in a future serious or fatal acciden.

4PE25018 · Inadvertent Deployment Of Side Air Bags
Opened Oct 28, 2025 · Closed Jun 25, 2026
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags; Air Bags:sensor:side Impact; Air Bags:side/window
On October 28, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE25018 to investigate complaints of inadvertent deployment of the side curtain and/or side thorax air bags. These complaints concern model year (MY) 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co. (Honda). Honda issued recall 26V227 on April 9, 2026, to address concerns of inadvertent side air bag deployment. In the recall filing, the company stated that “[a]s of April 2, 2026, Honda has had 130 warranty claims, 25 reports of an injury, and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017 – April 2, 2026.” Honda states that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side thorax and side curtain air bags, which may cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle encounters strong road impacts, such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. Honda stated that the SRS control logic for the second and third rows of seating contained an insufficient deployment threshold margin, allowing signal inputs to be misinterpreted as side impacts and causing inadvertent deployment of the side thorax and side curtain air bags. Recall 26V227 states that dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved air bag deployment parameters. Consumers received notice of this recall in late May 2026. In view of the recall being conducted by Honda, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (PE). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

PE25008 · Engine Failure
Opened Aug 20, 2025 · No close date supplied
Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Engine
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 414 reports of connecting rod bearing failures in the 3.5L V6 engine used in the following vehicles: Model Years (MY) 2018-2020 Acura TLX, MY2016-2020 Acura MDX, MY2016-2020 Honda Pilot, MY2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, and MY2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline. The subject engine failures were analyzed as part of a Recall Query (RQ24013). It was determined that these engine failures are outside the scope of Honda Recall 23V-751. Further, evidence gathered in conjunction with RQ24013 does not suggest this failure is caused by the same crankshaft manufacturing defect that is addressed by Honda in Recall 23V-751. Based on analysis of data from RQ24013, NHTSA has closed that investigation. The significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of RQ24013 presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

RQ24013 · Engine Failure
Opened Nov 8, 2024 · Closed Aug 20, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Engine
On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation. NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
