MY INSURANCE COMPANY BOUGHT THIS HONDA ODYSSEY EX 2014 VAN FOR ME TO BE MODIFIED FOR HANDICAPPED EQUIPMENT AS A REPLACEMENT. IT CHOSE AND DELIVERED THE VAN TO: BETTER LIFE MOBILITY CENTERS OF RIVERSIDE 7239 INDIANA AVE., RIVERSIDE CA 92504 9516863152, WHO THEN DISABLED MY STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROLS RESULTING IN DEFECTIVE TURN SIGNALS, HORN, LIGHTS ETC. NO NOTICE WAS GIVEN TO ME OF SUCH DISABLING OF THESE SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND THEY SIMPLY LEFT THE CONTROL FOR THE "TILT & TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN" IN A PLASTIC BAG ON THE CONSOLE. HONDA CARS OF CORONA (888) 568-0582 INFORMED ME THAT NO WARRANTY OR SERVICING OR DIAGNOSING OF THIS CAR WOULD BE MADE BY HONDA BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN MODIFIED FOR HANDICAPPED DRIVING WHICH VOIDED ALL WARRANTY OF ANY SHAPE OR FORM. IT APPEARS THAT "BETTER LIFE MOBILITY" HAS NOT COMPLIED WITH FEDERAL REGULATIONS IN THE DISABLING OF MY STEERING COLUMN, TURN SIGNALS, ETC. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS BUSINESS AND THEIR CONDUCT. THE TOTAL COST OF THIS VAN WAS $34,547.53 BEFORE MODIFICATIONS AND NOW IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR OF THE STEERING COLUMN , TURN SIGNALS AND RELATED SAFETY EQUIPMENT. I HAVE DRIVEN WITH HAND CONTROLS FOR OVER 24 YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED ANYTHING LIKE THIS.. *TR

BARELY OVER 1 MONTH AGO I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW HONDA ODYSSEY. THIS IS FIRST NEW VEHICLE I HAVE BOUGHT IN YEARS. BIG MISTAKE. I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH ACCELERATION, THE VANS JERKS, SHUDDERS AND MAKE LOUD CLUNKING NOISES. AFTER I START THE VAN AND TRY TO ENGAGE IN REVERSE IT GOES NO WHERE...THE SAME THING STARTED HAPPENING WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE. I TOOK IT TOO THE DEALERSHIP THAT WEEKEND AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A COMPUTER UPDATE THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM... IT DIDN'T. TWO DAYS LATER I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM AND TOLD THEM IT WAS UNACCEPTABLE AND I WANTED IT FIXED. THAT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO. THAT IS 2 WEEKS THAT THEY HAVE HAD MY "NEW" VAN THAT I AM PAYING DEARLY FOR. THEY HAVE ADMITTED TO FEELING THE PROBLEMS AND CLAIM THEY CALLED THE HONDA TECH LINE WHO STATES I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THE UNITED STATES THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. NEXT WEEK THEY ARE INSTALLING A NEW TRANSMISSION AND WILL CONTINUE TO TRY NEW THINGS UNTIL THEY FIND A SOLUTION. I LOVE THE FACT THAT I AM MAKING A PAYMENT FOR THEM TO PLAY WITH MY VAN AS THE TEST DUMMY. IF I WANTED A VAN WITH ALL THESE REPLACEMENTS I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT AN OLD ONE AND HAD EVERYTHING REBUILT AND SAVED ALOT OF MONEY AND TIME THAT A WORKING MOTHER OF 3 KIDS DOES NOT HAVE. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!!!!! PLEASE DO YOU HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS YEAR MODEL OF VAN. *TR

SHINY DASHBOARD REFLECTS TOO MUCH IN BOTH DRIVER & PASSENGER SIDE MIRRORS WHEN THE SUN HITS THE DASHBOARD. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO SEE OTHER CARS DRIVING BEHIND YOU WHEN TRYING TO USE THE MIRROR. THE DASHBOARD & AIR VENTS REFLECT TOO MUCH IN THE MIRROR. *TR

ACCELERATION THROUGHOUT RANGE IS EXCEPTIONALLY SLUGGISH AND WILL NOT ENGAGE "PASSING GEAR" AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, MAKING THE VEHICLE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT LOW AND HIGHER SPEEDS. PROBLEM STOPS WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND RE-STARTED, BUT MAY REAPPEAR. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND STATES HONDA HAS HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS OF SAME. HOWEVER, I FOUND ALMOST EXACT SAME/SIMILAR COMPLAINT AT HTTP://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM WITHIN SECONDS OF SEARCHING. I SUSPECT IT'S HAPPENING TO MORE PEOPLE. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE FACT THIS VEHICLE IS VERY LIKELY TO BE USED FOR HAULING CHILDREN. *TR

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An unlocked second row left outboard seatback increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a crash.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will confirm proper operation of the second row left outboard seatback, and install a support bracket to the seat recliner. If the seatback cannot lock, dealers will replace the seatback frame assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2018. The shorting terminal, an electrical connector used to prevent air bag deployment before being installed into a vehicle, may have been damaged during assembly of the passenger-side side curtain air bag.
Consequence & remedy

The Petition further alleges that the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) conflict and inaccurate data is being recorded for the air bag system. The Petitioner cites 10 complaints received by ODI alleging the same failure. ODI will evaluate these complaints to determine if they are related to the failure cited in the Petition andconduct a technical review under 49 CFR Part 552. This Defect Petition is being opened to evaluate whether to grant or deny the Petition. The Petition can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under NHTSA Number 11744118.
