My Steering has been very sticky on oy 2019 CRV. It makes creaking noises when I even slightly touch the wheel. They told me today I need a new rack and pinion. I only have 76,000 miles on this vehicle. There was a recall early on that had to do with steering and I feel like this is related. They're acting like it's not. I just don't think I should have to spend $5,800 on a car that I should be able to drive a very long time! 76,000 miles is nothing on a honda!

My Honda CRV 2019 has about 70K miles on it. About a month ago, I started noticing the steering wheel becoming sticky. I would start to turn the wheel very slight and nothing would happen. Then it would catch up but i feel I have turned the wheel too much and now have to over-correct for it. This has a become a problem on highway driving as I feel I am all over my lane. I have seen the recalls for similar issues but this model is currently not under recall for this issue.

There is a "sticky" feeling when steering, particularly when veering or turning right. My local Honda service department identified it as a defective steering gearbox and estimates that it will cost about $5,100 to fix it. I contacted Honda and was told that my specific VIN is not part of the recall associated with steering issues; they also refused to add it or cover my repairs.

The component in question is the steering assembly. The vehicle which currently has approximately 55,000 miles has started having what I would describe as "sticky steering". The steering wheel does not operate smoothly, instead you have to force it out of a turn or merge. The vehicle issue has been confirmed by my local dealer where we purchased the car new. There are no warning lamps associated with this issue and it has been going on for about a month or so as of today. The recommended repair by the dealer is to replace the steering rack at $4000. To me that would be a questionable repair on a vehicle with twice as many miles as mine. It is definitely a safety issue that I'm sure won't go away on its own. The car has not been involved in an accident that would cause this issue.

After driving the vehicle for approximately one hour on the freeway, the steering begins to feel jerky (sticky), requiring greater force to steer car. It is almost like fighting against the lane assist feature but that feature is turned off. This does not happen while driving shorter distances around town.

For several months (around early December) the steering wheel has been snapping in and out of place and not steering smoothly and had a subtle clicking sound. It felt as if it was catching on something, but the car was NOT pulling or shaking. I brought it to a local auto shop (that replaced my tires) and then Tire Kingdom and neither found any issues and ran a diagnostic report. Wheel alignment was good. I knew something was not right and my husband experienced the same sort of popping in and out of place sensation (felt like it was catching on something) as well. I took it to the Honda dealer today (March 12) and was informed I needed to replace the rack and pinion. My car was not part of this Honda recall [XXX] ), but it sounds like quite a similar issue. The contact owned a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle occasionally drifted to the left or right. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while attempting to turn the steering wheel, excessive force was needed while turning the steering wheel. The contact stated that the steering wheel was stuck occasionally. No warning lights were illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was test driven and diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion and the front driver’s and passenger’s side tie rods needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall for similar vehicles between 2022 - 2025; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact attempted to contact the manufacturer; however, was unable to get through the prompts. The contact stated that the dealer had submitted paperwork to the manufacturer to verify any recalls. The failure mileage was 45,350.

The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, which can cause the air bags to deploy unintentionally during a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Air bags that deploy unintentionally during a crash increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 7, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2020 CR-V, 2018-2019 Accord and Accord Hybrid, 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019 Insight, and 2019-2020 Acura RDX vehicles. A manufacturing issue with the front seat belts may cause the seat belt buckle channel to interfere with the release button, preventing the seat belt buckle from latching.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An unlatched seat belt cannot properly restrain the seat occupant during a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver and front passenger seat belt buckle release buttons or the buckle assemblies as necessary, free of charge. The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Consequence & remedy

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019-2020 CR-V vehicles. The rear subframe bolts were improperly manufactured and may loosen, allowing the rear subframe to separate.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A separated rear subframe reduces vehicle handling and can suddenly disable the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear subframe bolts and retorque them or replace them, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 27, 2020. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is R6M.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019 CR-V vehicles. The owner's guide incorrectly describes when the "Passenger Airbag Off" indicator should illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the front passenger does not correctly understand how the airbag functions, they may be at an increased risk of personal injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Honda will notify owners and provide a sticker with the correct information to be added to the owner's guide, free of charge. The recall began November 14, 2019. Owner's may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X6G.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019 CR-V vehicles. The joint weld between the fuel tank and the vapor return line may have been insufficiently welded, causing the weld to fail.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The failed weld may allow fuel to leak, increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.

On February 21, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE22003) to assess reports of inadvertent activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, in model year 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles.  The reports allege that activation of the AEB system occurs while driving with no apparent obstruction in the vehicle's forward path, resulting in sudden vehicle deceleration. Honda indicated that they were aware of a total of X,XXX reports that may relate to the alleged defect. Honda provided analysis of the alleged defect and alleges that some customers possibly had an inadequate understanding of the CMBS and its limitations.  However, many consumer complaints allege that Honda dealerships were unable to reproduce the condition or state that they were informed that this is considered normal CMBS operation. To date, ODI has received a total of 1,294 consumer complaints of inadvertent activation of CMBS in 2017-2022 Honda CR-V and 2018-2022 Honda Accord vehicles. To date, ODI has received a total of 1,081 consumer complaints of inadvertent activation of CMBS in the subject vehicles.  A total of 24 complaints alleged a crash and 42 alleged an injury.  The Total column in the Failure Report Summary removes duplicate reports and shows the total number of reports with unique VINs from all Manufacturer, ODI, and EWR data sources.  In some cases, there were multiple reports associated with a particular vehicle in which recurring failures were alleged.  In total, there were X,XXX reports, 84 injury incidents and 40 crashes involving vehicles with unique VINs that may relate to the alleged defect. PE22003 has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA24002) to further assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety related consequences of the inadvertent AEB activations.  Further the scope has been expanded to include assessment of model year 2020-2022 Honda CR-V and Accord vehicles. Forward Collision Avoidance: Sensing System: Radar

On February 21, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE22003) to assess reports of inadvertent activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, in model year 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles.  The reports allege that activation of the AEB system occurs while driving with no apparent obstruction in the vehicle's forward path, resulting in sudden vehicle deceleration. Honda indicated that they were aware of a total of X,XXX reports that may relate to the alleged defect. Honda provided analysis of the alleged defect and alleges that some customers possibly had an inadequate understanding of the CMBS and its limitations.  However, many consumer complaints allege that Honda dealerships were unable to reproduce the condition or state that they were informed that this is considered normal CMBS operation.
