I AM THE OWNER OF A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID LIVING IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA SO I'M SURE YOU ARE ALREADY AWARE OF WHAT THIS IS REGARDING. STARTING IN THE WINTER OF 2009, I NOTICED THAT MY MILEAGE WAS BEGINNING TO DROP AND THAT THE ACCELERATION OF MY VEHICLE WAS DIMINISHING SIGNIFICANTLY. BEFORE THIS PROBLEM STARTED, I WAS AVERAGING AROUND 45 MILES PER GALLON BUT THIS HAS SINCE DIMINISHED TO AROUND 34. I GOT THE CAR CHECKED OUT REPEATEDLY AND THEY PUT SOME SORT OF UPDATE ON MY BATTERY AND TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT THEN THERE WAS AN ARTICLE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THE LOS ANGELES TIMES. HONDA THEN OFFERED ANOTHER SOFTWARE UPDATE TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM BUT I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT IT. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO HAS THE EXACT SAME MAKE AND MODEL AS ME GOT THIS NEW UPDATE AND NOTHING AT ALL CHANGED AND HE IS STILL GETTING A CHECK EMISSIONS SYSTEM WARNING ON HIS DASHBOARD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE FRONT LEFT TIRE STRUCK A PIECE OF WOOD AND RUPTURED THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT A COST OF $640.00. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL THE REPAIR WILL REMEDY THE FAILURE SINCE THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE FAILED COMPONENT WITH A PLASTIC FUEL TANK WITHOUT A GUARD TO PROTECT THE FUEL TANK FROM ROAD DEBRIS OR RECURRING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,010.

WHEN ENGINE IS WARM AND CAR IS AT IDLE (EITHER WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT OR WHEN PARKING BEFORE SHUTDOWN) AND YOU OPEN/CLOSE SUN ROOF AND/OR POWER WINDOWS THE RPMS DIP, CAR SHAKES, AND ENGINE ALMOST STALLS BEFORE RPMS RECOVER TO NORMAL IDLE. AT APPROX 400 MILES CAR WAS TAKEN INTO DEALER AND DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE AND ALSO REPRODUCED THE PROBLEM ON OTHER NEW CIVICS ON DEALER LOT. DEALER RESET PCM AND PERFORMED IDLE RELEARN PROCEDURE. THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. DEALER REPORTED TO HONDA ENGINEERING AND THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ISSUE AND OFFERED NO ADVICE. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Acura TSX, 2011-2014 TSX Sport Wagon, 2010-2013 ZDX, 2008-2012 Honda Accord, 2010-2011 Accord Crosstour, 2006-2011 Civic and Civic Hybrid, 2008-2010 Civic GX NGV, 2012-2015 Crosstour, 2007-2011 CR-V, 2009-2013 Fit, 2014 Fit EV, 2010-2014 Insight, and 2009-2015 Pilot vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are F5F and Q5E.

The front passenger air bag inflator may have been installed incorrectly during replacement.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An incorrectly installed air bag inflator may not properly deploy the passenger frontal air bag in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the inflator installation and, if necessary, replace the passenger frontal air bag module assembly, free of charge. ON CERTAIN COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG) VEHICLES, IN THE EVENT OF A SEVERE INTERIOR FIRE IN THE AREA OF THE REAR SEAT, THE CNG TANK MAY BE HEATED UNEVENLY, PREVENTING THE PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICE FROM VENTING THE CONTENTS OF THE TANK AS DESIGNED.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN A TANK RUPTURE, EXPLOSION, AND EJECTION OF THE TANK FROM THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A HEAT INSULATOR MATERIAL TO THE REAR SEAT BACK. AN INTERIM OWNER LETTER WAS MAILED TO OWNERS BEGINNING NOVEMBER 26, 2007. WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, OWNERS WILL BE RENOTIFIED ASKING THEM TO BRING IN THEIR VEHICLE FOR REPAIR. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE A WHEEL TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

ON CERTAIN SEDAN AND HYBRID (CNG) VEHICLES, DURING ASSEMBLY, THE TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN MECHANISM MAY HAVE BEEN OVER-LUBRICATED WITH SILICONE GREASE. OVER TIME, SOME OF THIS EXTRA GREASE MAY DRIP ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CAUSING THE SWITCH TO FAIL.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: FAILURE MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS AND AN INCREASED RISK THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE STRUCK IN THE REAR. IN ADDITION, A FAILED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH COULD PREVENT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE PARK POSITION (VEHICLES WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION).
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND INSTALL A PROTECTIVE COVER OVERTHE SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 2, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
