I bought my 2022 Yukon XL on [XXX]. On Friday [XXX], only a few weeks after having my car in the shop (at the dealer) for running rough, it started to make an odd high-pitched noise and running very rough at higher speeds. I immediately called the dealer and asked how quickly I could bring the car in to be checked. They said they had no availability for over 10 days, and offered me an appointment for then. By the next morning, it seemed to be running better and I didn't have to drive much that day so I hoped it would make it until the appointment. That Sunday [XXX], my husband and I drove the car to a sporting event with our children and it seemed to be ok. On our way home, however, just after crossing a long causeway over the bay, the car's motor just stopped working in the middle of driving on [XXX] in Miami. We were in the left lane and had to try to change multiple lanes while coasting only, and were only able to get off the traffic lanes because there happened to be a side street that came up quickly enough to turn onto before the car came to a stop. It was completely unexpected and without warning, and had we been on the interstate or even the causeway we had just come off of, it could've easily caused an accident with my whole family in the car. Once stopped, it wouldn't crank or even try to turn over, no matter what we tried. It took 2 tow trucks because we couldn't even change/move gears enough to put it in neutral, so couldn't use the flat bed that arrived first. We were stuck for hours in a less than desirable area of town. The dealer took a week to look the car over, then said the engine had seized up and would need to be replaced. The engine was on back order and it took over 6 weeks for the replacement. After replacement, 2 separate issues arose over the following 2 weeks, each the result of a component not being properly tightened during the engine replacement by dealer service technicians. Engine failed on highway in a different state, was able to drive home but barely made it. 2 newborns, 2 toddlers, and 2 adults were all in the vehicle at the time the engine started squealing. No warning signs. Dealer dropped oil filter and it was full of metal. Official diagnosis was main crank thrust bearing failure. Rebuilt engine was installed under powertrain warranty (37500 miles). GM did not put us in a comparable rental vehicle, so I had to pay out of pocket expenses outside of their rental allowance for a compact car. Dealer charged for an oil change. Dealer changed the rebuilt engine warranty terms upon pickup from 3yr/100,000miles to 12mo/12,000 miles or the current terms of power train warranty, whichever was longer. GM is well aware of this issue and is keeping it quiet. Rebuilt engines are on back order for months because it’s that common of a failure.

The onstar system failed and will not work. This affects the ability to make emergency calls, report/determine our vehicle’s location, the vehicle’s navigation system, and some of the blind spot monitors are also affected, though intermittently. The issue first happened two days after the dealer fixed a recall with the serial data gateway module. We called onstar and they were able to resend a signal and it was fixed temporarily. Two days later it happened again and the amount of electronics affected in the vehicle is astounding. We called onstar again and went through all the troubleshooting and they say they can’t fix it, it’s a dealer problem now and the module needs to be replaced. The dealer states this is a common problem but will not cover it under warranty. In the beginning there was no immediate indication that systems had failed other than certain electronics not working. However after a couple weeks there is now a check engine light associated with all the electronics that are failing due to this defective telecom module. In a 2 year old vehicle, this is highly frustrating and poses safety concerns for my family.

Engine seemed to "shutter" not like a electrical was disconnected to engine (my opinion). This a safety issue and should be addressed! One hour into a trip from Reno to Bay Area at 18k miles on my car the vehicle lost power while driving on the highway. It went into neutral and display said to hit start which yielded a warning that ability to shift was no optimal. Preceding the shut down I lost acceleration power. I was able to exit highway and coast off to the side of an exit road where it came to a stop and shifted to park in the middle of the road. Had it been one mile up the highway I would have hit another incline and the car would have stopped on a major two lane interstate. Ultimately towed back to dealer in Reno where I was informed my engine seized and needed to be replaced.

As we were leaving Cortez, CO. on a two lane highway we were passing a couple of cars with plenty of room to get back into to the driving lane when we lost ALL power from the engine. The cars we had just passed had to slam on their brakes as we were trying to keep from a head on collision. But with no power and the Denali in neutral we couldn’t change anything. We coasted to a County Road approach and it DIED in the middle of it. NO POWER. We had to call a tow truck who took it back into Cortez to Webb Chevrolet. The engine had seized. God was watching over us that day. We have since found out that there has been MANY seized engines with the 2022, 6.2 liter engines. In many new pickups and few of the suburbans. In fact, the Webb Chevrolet people said they have had one that they replaced the seized engine with a new 6.2 liter engine and in 500 miles that NEW ENGINE ALSO SEIZED! This is a MAJOR SAFTEY ISSUE!! THIS ENGINE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE IT RUINS LIVES OF THE FAMILIES WHO ARE DRIVING THEM!!. We only had 42,000 miles on our 2022 Yukon Denali and Chevrolet couldn’t even rent a vehicle to get home and it would be a month to have to wait for a new one. We had to trade vehicles to get home. Point is, when the engine seizes while passing cars on a two lane, somebody is going to die. Families aren’t at fault when the company has been notified of their negligence to get a recall on this engine and fixed. We’ve had our Denali in for service several times for electrical issues. This should qualify as a Lemon Law. Instead, GMC tried to send a $5000.00 voucher to use when we buy a new vehicle. This family has bought GMC, CADILAC’S, CHEVY’S FOR OVER 50 years. We like our salesman and would continue this business, but not if you don’t make SAFETY FIRST!! RECALL THIS ENGINE NOW!!! Take care of YOUR customers and OUR friends! LOOK FOR YOURSELF THE AMOUNT OF SEIZED ENGINES IN THIS 6.2LITER ENGINE. Thank You, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA)

On [XXX], my wife was driving her 2022 Yukon XL in [XXX] , when she heard a loud pop and realized her sunroof had exploded and shattered. Thankfully, the sunshade was closed, which prevented shards of glass from entering the interior of the vehicle. She was driving alone, had not gone under an overpass, and there were no other vehicles in front of her. There was no indication that a foreign object struck the glass and the remaining glass is clearly protruding outwards. A quick search on this issue revealed that this is not an isolated incident and has been noted by consumer reports and a previous NHSTA investigation. On June 20th, 2024, I contacted GM customer service. I was told that there are no recalls, extended coverage, or safety bulletins on the sunroofs. The customer service agent stated she had never heard of the issue and recommended that I contact my closest dealership for repairs. Repairs are estimated to be around $750. I am urging the NHSTA to reopen an investigation on defective sunroof glass and GM to issue a recall before someone is injured or killed. Engine
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues.
