I HAVE JUST READ A FEW OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT AN ISSUE I AM HAVING NOW, AND HAVE HAD 3 TIMES IN THE PAST. WHILE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, I HAVE HAD MY SUV BECOME VERY SLUGGISH AND DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. LIGHTS COME ON SAY LOSS OF POWER, STABILITRAC PROBLEM ETC. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS VISITING ORLANDO FLORIDA. I TOOK THE SUV TO A DEALER, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ECM AND REPROGRAMMED IT. I LEFT BACK THE NEXT DAY FOR ATLANTA. NEARLY 80 MILES AWAY IN OCALA FLORIDA, IT STARTED DOING THIS AGAIN. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK, AND HAD IT TAKEN TO AN OCALA DEALERSHIP. THEY IN TURN TOLD ME IT WAS A BAD ECM, AND AFTER SPENDING AN ENTIRE DAY IN OCALA, I WAS BACK ON MY WAY TO ATLANTA. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, I HAD THIS OCCUR AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN I HAD IT TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP IN ATLANTA. THEY RAN A COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS ON IT, AND SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA WHY IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS AN ECM PROBLEM, AS THE CODE COMING UP WAS DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE SENSOR IN THE FLOOR BOARD THAT READS THE DISTANCEOF THE GAS PEDAL FROM THE FLOOR BOARD. AS IT IS A DRIVE BY SENSOR VS DRIVE BY WIRE. THEY REPAIRED THIS, AND ALTHOUGH I FELT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THE TIME, THE FIRST TWO INCIDENTS THAT WERE SUPPOSEDLY DIAGNOSED WRONG WERE DONE SO WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ENDED UP CUTTING THE COSTS IN HALF. I HAD NO CHOICE, AS I NEEDED MY VEHICLE BACK. NOW IT HAS OCCURRED THE FORTH TIME. I HAVE RESORTED TO THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHER ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT I'M FINDING THROUGH THIS RESEARCH, IT SOUNDS AS IF MANY HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE, AND IT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. WHILE RESEARCHING, I WAS ALERTED TO THIS SITE, THUS THE REASON I'M POSTING HERE. MAYBE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AS IT SEEMS THIS HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN, AND GMC IS KEEPING IT UNDER WRAPS. *TR

IT BEGAN W/A HARSH SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD. IT STARTED HAPPENING MORE OFTEN, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON& IT BEGAN SHIFTING SO HARSH IT WOULD JERK YOU. WENT TO MY GM DEALER & THE CODE WAS FOR A THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. THEY REPLACED THE SENSORS & ALSO FOUND A CRACKED MOTOR MOUNT. THEY ADVISED THE CRACK WAS PROBABLY DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING SO HARSH, ALSO THE SHIFTING PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY DUE TO THE SENSOR MALFUNCTION AND THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION FROM THE THROTTLE TO THE TRANSMISSION. THEY REPLACED THE MOUNT & SENSORS. CHARGED ME $700. LEFT THE DEALERSHIP, 15 MINS LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON! I TOOK IT STRAIGHT BACK AND DAYS LATER THEY CALLED...COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, THE CODE AGAIN WAS FOR THE SENSORS, THEY INSTALLED AGAIN & CHECKED THE SOLENOIDS BUT THEY WERE FINE. THEY ADVISED A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED & WOULD BE $2400. WITH NO WARRANTY, I COULDN'T AFFORD THE REPAIR, SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT UNTIL I CAME UP $$. IT STILL SHIFTS HORRIBLE AND OFTEN 'REVS' WHILE ACCELERATING BUT WON'T SHIFT FROM 2ND-3RD. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, I HAVE TO PULL OVER, TURN IT OFF 20 MINS BEFORE IT WILL DRIVE. A DAY OR TWO LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL GO OFF, BUT WILL RANDOMLY APPEAR AGAIN WHEN THE 'NO GO' HAPPENS AGAIN. AFTER 'GOOGLING' THE SYMPTOMS, THERE'S SEVERAL FORUMS STATING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES! I'M AFRAID THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE MERGING ON THE HWY OR AT AN INTERSECTION. THIS IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAR I'VE OWNED & I'M IN SHOCK A VEHICLE THAT COST ME 50K WOULD END UP THE WORST CAR I'VE OWNED. THE TRANSMISSION IS THE ONLY SAFETY ISSUE I HAVE, BUT SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR, I'VE REPLACED 3 DOOR HANDLES, IT SHAKES AROUND 60MPH, THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE & THE LOCKS INTERMITTENTLY WORK, BOTH CAPS ON THE AUX OUTLETS CAME OFF AFTER 6 MOS ALONG W/ THE PAINT ON THE A/C CONTROLS. COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED IN GM! *TR

EA10004 · Interior Door Handle Laceration Risk

Opened May 23, 2010 · Closed Jul 18, 2011

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Latches/locks/linkages; Latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch; Structure; Structure:body; Structure:body:door ; Structure:body:door:hinge And Attachments

The investigated concern involved chrome plating on interior door handles that could peel or separate from the plastic base material. This de-lamination could result in a sharp edge and pose a risk of laceration. In some cases, consumers reported minor hand/skin lacerations.Of these reported injuries, the vast majority of injuries were to adults.Ninety percent of claims associated with interior door handle de-lamination were related to the front doors. In addition to the above Tahoe/Yukon vehicles, other GMT 900 series C/K vehicles (Avalanche, Escalade, Sierra, Silverado, and Suburban) have a trim level that utilizes the chrome plated interior door handles and were included in the analysis. The resultant population group had a total of 746 complaint reports with 309 injury incidents and 43,619 unique VIN regular warranty claims over a combined 451,745 vehicle population. The door handle supplier was changed in September 2006 with new tooling and process in place by October 2006.The base population prior to the September 2006 vendor change accounted for the bulk (or 89%) of all complaints and comparable injury reports and warranty claims.Due to the nature of the failure (thin chrome plating peeling off the door handle), only minor hand/skin laceration injuries similar to a paper cut were recorded. All but a few did not require professional medical treatment such as surgical or liquid sutures (i.e. stitches).Less than 10% of injury reports had specifically involved a 3-10 year old child. This was due to the fact that 90% of the claims were associated with door handles located in the front seating area (where the window glass panels usually have less solar tinting than rear window glass panels) where children are not normally seated. In July 2010, GM issued a Special Coverage Policy (SCP 09239) on the base vehicles to extend the warranty coverage to 10 years/100k miles.Recent data indicate that the base population complaint and injury reporting have subsided since the implementation of the SCP campaign. In June 2011, GM added the remaining interim population (Sep-Oct 2006) to the SCP.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
