THE DASH IS CRACKED AND BROKEN IN MULTIPLE PLACES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DASH. MOST CONCERNING IS THE CRACK NEXT TO THE AIRBAG PANEL. IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY, WILL IT STILL WORK, AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE DASH WHEN IT EXPLODES OUT. THE CRACK WAS FIRST NOTICED LAST FALL AND JUST GOTTEN WORSE SINCE THEN.

THIS IS NOW A FEARED SAFETY CONCERN OF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. A SMALL CRACK FORMED LITERALLY OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE ON THE AIRBAG SIDE AND THEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER ON THE ODOMETER SIDE. NOW WHEN I DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD THE DASH SECTION BETWEEN THE TWO CRACKS BOUNCES AROUND AND CLICKS AGAINST THE STATIONARY PIECE OF DASH.

I HAD TO PLACE A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER BETWEEN THE CRACKS JUST TO AVOID THE OBNOXIOUS AND ANNOYING RATTLE THAT IT MAKES WHILE DRIVING, THIS VEHICLE IS PARKED IN A GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME AND IS RARELY DRIVEN- ONLY 65,000 MILES- THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THESE CRACKS COULD DAMAGE OR INHIBIT THE PROPER DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS- THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!- GM WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BUT DENY AND BLAME THE CUSTOMER- THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE NOT A CUSTOMER USE ISSUE- STEP UP AND DO YOU JOB AND PROTECT THE CONSUMER! P.S. I CAN ONLY UPLOAD 1 PICTURE BUT I HAVE 3 THAT I HAVE TAKEN TO SHOW EXTENT OF DAMAGE.

DASH IS UNSIGHTLY AND VIBRATION OF CRACKED AREA IS ANNOYING. WAS TOLD IT IS POOR MATERIAL QUALITY AND POOR FIT THAT ARE ROOT OF THESE DASHES CRACKING. VEHICLE IS ALWAYS GARAGED AND THIS HAPPENED OVER TIME. THE CRACKS ARE SPREADING.
MY DASH IS CRACKED RIGHT AT THE FRONT AIRBAG AND ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I AM AFRAID IF THE AIRBAG WAS TO DEPLOY, THE DASH WOULD BREAK INTO PIECES.
THE CHROME IS ALSO PEELING ON MY DOOR HANDLES. SUMMER OF 2015, I REPLACED THE INSIDE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE DUE TO A BROKEN BOLT. LASTLY MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON WITH NO DIAGNOSES (~3 MONTHS).

MY 2007 YUKON XL DENALI DASHBOARD CRACKD IN THREE DIFFERENT PLACES. AT THE AIRBAG, LEFT SIDE TOP OF DASH AT INSTRAMENT CLUSTER AND IN THE MIDDLE TOP. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTEE BUT GM AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIR. ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM AND THE DEALER BUT WAS REFUSED IN 2010, 2012 AND 2014. I AM CONCERED THAT F THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYS THE DASH DEBRIS WITH DAMAGE ME AND MY FAMILY AS IT DID ON MY SISTERS GM VEHICLE.

WHILE FOLLOWING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON AN ON RAMP FROM ONE HWY TO ANOTHER, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME DROVE DIRECTLY OVER SOMETHING LAYING IN THE ROAD (STRADDLING THE DEBRIS WITH IT'S TIRES). THIS CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD AND I MADE A QUICK SWERVE/EVASIVE ACTION TO MISS RUNNING OVER WHATEVER IT WAS LAYING IN THE ROAD. ALL OF MY SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME AND I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE WHAT HAPPENED FOR ANOTHER 1/4 MILE OR SO. I CALLED GM TO COMPLAIN AND THEY HAD A SO-CALLED INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR COME OUT AND LOOK AT MY VEHICLE (AT THE TIME IT WAS AT A DEALERSHIP). I RECEIVED A REPORT BACK SAYING THE COMPUTER SENSED A POTENTIAL ROLLOVER. NEVER WAS THERE A POTENTIAL ROLLOVER. I JUST SWERVED TO MISS SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHERWISE. GM LEFT IT AT THAT. NO OTHER INVESTIGATION WAS DONE. AFTER TWO YEARS, I HAVE YET TO HAVE REPAIRS MADE, BECAUSE IT STILL IRKS ME TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. *TR

MY 2007 YUKON DENALI DASH HAS CRACKED IN 2 PLACES. IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT DUE TO THOUSANDS OF OTHER YUKONS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS, BUT THE DEALER REFUSES TO FIX IT. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE AIR BAGS WERE TO DEPLOY, THERE MIGHT BE SHARP PIECES OF FLYING PLASTIC DEBRIS ORIGINATING FROM THE CRACKED AREAS. YES, THE CRACKS ARE ANNOYING, BUT I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER OR ANY PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE STRUCTURAL INSTABILITY OF THE DASH. *TR

1EA10004 · Interior Door Handle Laceration Risk

The investigated concern involved chrome plating on interior door handles that could peel or separate from the plastic base material. This de-lamination could result in a sharp edge and pose a risk of laceration. In some cases, consumers reported minor hand/skin lacerations.Of these reported injuries, the vast majority of injuries were to adults.Ninety percent of claims associated with interior door handle de-lamination were related to the front doors. In addition to the above Tahoe/Yukon vehicles, other GMT 900 series C/K vehicles (Avalanche, Escalade, Sierra, Silverado, and Suburban) have a trim level that utilizes the chrome plated interior door handles and were included in the analysis. The resultant population group had a total of 746 complaint reports with 309 injury incidents and 43,619 unique VIN regular warranty claims over a combined 451,745 vehicle population. The door handle supplier was changed in September 2006 with new tooling and process in place by October 2006.The base population prior to the September 2006 vendor change accounted for the bulk (or 89%) of all complaints and comparable injury reports and warranty claims.Due to the nature of the failure (thin chrome plating peeling off the door handle), only minor hand/skin laceration injuries similar to a paper cut were recorded. All but a few did not require professional medical treatment such as surgical or liquid sutures (i.e. stitches).Less than 10% of injury reports had specifically involved a 3-10 year old child. This was due to the fact that 90% of the claims were associated with door handles located in the front seating area (where the window glass panels usually have less solar tinting than rear window glass panels) where children are not normally seated. In July 2010, GM issued a Special Coverage Policy (SCP 09239) on the base vehicles to extend the warranty coverage to 10 years/100k miles.Recent data indicate that the base population complaint and injury reporting have subsided since the implementation of the SCP campaign. In June 2011, GM added the remaining interim population (Sep-Oct 2006) to the SCP.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
