I have a complaint about the recall response from both nasal and gm. I feel the cure is substandard. Why not just put new transmission control modules in to correct this problem. Very disappointed

driving approximately 50 mph when vehicle suddenly made loud bang and locked up rear brakes for 25' coming to a stop in road side ditch, numerous vehicles had to make evasive actions to avoid me and other vehicles. flat spotted tire abut no visible physical damage. sat on side of road for transmission temp to cool down then drove to shop without repeat. called dealer was told the earliest appt was a month away. have not been able to repeat incident so far. this has happened a few times and is becoming more frequent, mfg has tsb issued but indicates they cant assist because my warranty has expired so i will have to pay 225 per hour diagnostic fee. this is untenable and dangerous. this needs a recall and repair ASAP.

I was driving approximately 60mph pulling a trailer when the back tires locked up for approximately 2 seconds. This happened 3 times within 30 minutes. I've taken it to the GM repair shop. They have seen this happen to 3 or 4 vehicles. Due to not being able to replicate the fault it has been difficult to diagnose. They are going to replace the transmission valve body hoping that will take care of the issue. This is extremely dangerous to everyone on the road when this happens. There are many forums out there that I've read and have been close to deadly accidents involving cars, trucks, RV's, and semis as they've ran off the roads. This seems to be something worth looking into and ensuring GM puts out a recall for. In my case, I am going through an extended warrant for my 2020 3500 with 112,000 miles. The warranty company wants the GM technician to replicate the fault... which isn't possible without hooking up a trailer... also very dangerous which I refuse to do until the issue if resolved. In any case, I will have to hook up a trailer once the part is replaced... praying that it won't happen again.

Vehicle will not start due to known GM issues. This failure left my family stranded in cold dark unsafe area once already. If we were in the flow of traffic or had to leave an area immediately we would have been unable too. Known GM issue, engine fault code P12A6 fault code. Bulletin: PIP5719A discusses this issue. I am being told by the dealer there is a newer bulletin which advises ECM update. GM dealer is stating ECM software upgrade is required to resolve at owners expense. Owner is responsible for diagnostic fee in addition to repair costs. If the issue is not resolved vehicle may continue to experience starting failure and or other electrical problems. The night the vehicle left us stranded instrumentation was erratic and not reading properly on the instrument cluster. Very unsafe and GM should reach out to customers to inform them a software update is needed and it should not be at the expense to the consumer if the consumer is out of the bumper to bumper warranty.

PE21010 · Air Bag Malfunction

Opened Apr 9, 2021 · Closed Aug 24, 2023

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags; Air Bags:frontal; Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module; Air Bags:srs Malfunction Warning Lamp/light

On April 9, 2021, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE21-010 to investigate instances of air bag malfunction indicator light (MIL) illumination and potential for frontal air bag non-deployment in several vehicles manufactured by General Motors (GM). The vehicles included model year (MY) 2020 through 2021 CT4 and CT5 passenger cars, Sierra and Silverado trucks (1500/2500/3500 models), XT4 and MY 2021 Escalade, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon SUVs.Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 21-NA-005, issued in March 2021, addresses air bag MIL illumination with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) B0001-1B or B0012-0D. It cites rust particles in the connection terminal interface of the driver air bag inflator housing as the cause of the air bag MIL illumination. Illumination of the air bag MIL under these circumstances may result in a non-deployment of the frontal driver air bag during a frontal collision and increased risk of injury to the driver.GM stated a correlation exists between production delays due to the pandemic shutdown and premature corrosion initiation on the surface of the air bag inflator housing, which, in some cases, caused rust development during a seven (7) month period of vehicle production. In the rare instance when a rust particle dislodges from the driver air bag inflator housing and enters the air bag connector prior to assembly, an intermittent resistance spike at the air bag connector may result. The condition generates excessive resistance in the air bag electrical system when the steering wheel horn cover is manipulated or the steering wheel is turned. This excessive resistance is momentary. A crash commanding air bag deployment would need to occur exactly when the momentary excessive resistance occurs. Thus, there is a very low likelihood the hazard will present a risk during a crash of sufficient severity to warrant a commanded deployment. This failure mechanism occurs early in life and results in an air bag MIL illumination that corresponds to a DTC warning the driver that the vehicle requires service. The vehicle's air bag remains functional while the MIL is illuminated, and the DTC is present.Once the connection of the driver air bag module to the clockspring is made at the plant, or at the dealership for service, there is no longer an opportunity for rust migration into the connection point. The connector is sealed and has gold terminals, eliminating the expectation of fretting corrosion. All subject vehicles passed standard corrosion validation testing for extensive corrosion with no issue of air bag non-deployment.There is a low rate of occurrence: 1.41 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) for all related occurrences, and 0.04 IPTV for occurrences with a mention of visible rust and/or corrosion on the air bag inflator housing. The average occurrence mileage for the subject vehicles is approximately 2,100. Every occurrence related to the alleged defect experienced an air bag MIL illumination and there are no verified allegations of air bag non-deployment within all data sources. To date, there have been no reported fires, crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue. In view of the low rate, and the nature of early-life failure, the high detectability of failures, and low potential hazard to drivers, this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module
