AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, SHIFTING INTO PARK AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE, A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARS STATING TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK. THE CAR IS IN PARK, BUT THERE MUST BE SOME TYPE OF SENSOR FAILURE. I AM PROHIBITED FROM COMPLETING SHUT DOWN OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL I CLEAR THE WARNING MESSAGE. WHEN THIS ISSUE FIRST AROSE, I COULD "JIGGLE" THE SHIFTER A BIT, AND THE MESSAGE WOULD CLEAR. NOW, ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, I NEED TO START THE CAR, MOVE THE SHIFTER BETWEEN GEARS, AND THEN BACK INTO PARK. AFTER 2 - 3 TIMES REPEATING THE PROCEDURE, THE WARNING MESSAGE USUALLY CLEARS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE. A NEW SHIFTER HAS BEEN ORDERED. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER.

THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR ACCESSORIES TO REMAIN RUNNING AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. FROM REVIEW OF INFORMATION, THIS IS A KNOW MANUFACTURING DEFECT FROM GM. WHEN GM WAS CONTACTED TO HAVE REPAIRED IN THE VEHICLE WE WERE INFORMED THAT THEY CANNOT WARRANTY THEIR VEHICLES FOREVER AND IT WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSE FOR AN ISSUE THAT IS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM BUT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED AS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
