ENTERING INTO TRAFFIC, THE CAR WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR JUST CRUZED AT A SNAIL PACE. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS THE TRAFFIC WAS MOVING AND I BARELY MOVED OUT OF THE WAY. SINCE, I HAD 4 OCCURRENCES AND TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER. THEY WILL NOT WORK ON THE CAR UNLESS THE CHECK ENGINE SIGN STAYS ON. THE CAR COMPUTER WILL RESET EVERYTIME YOU START THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOW TO THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME AND SUBSEQUENT EVENTS, BUT AS I MENTIONED THE DEALER DID NOT WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THE SITUATION. *TR

I WENT TO THE DEALER'S BODY SHOP TO GET AN ESTIMATE ON REPAIR AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE ALUMINUM/IRON CONTAMINATION DURING THE CAR ASSEMBLY AND THAT A NEW PAINT JOB WOULD ONLY BE A BAND-AID. BROUGHT PROBLEM TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD DOCUMENT AND SEND TO FORD FOR RESOLUTION ... 3 MONTHS LATER I CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE. ON THE 2ND VISIT, THEY DOCUMENTED THE PROBLEM AND SAID IT WOULD BE SUBMITTED TO FORD. THE RESULT WAS THAT FORD DENIED THE CLAIM BECAUSE IT WAS BEYOND THE 3 YEAR TERM. WHEN I RESEARCHED THE ALUMINUM CORROSION ISSUE I FOUND THAT SENDING A COMPLAINT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE MIGHT ELEVATE THE CLAIM, I SENT A MESSAGE TO [XXX] AT FORD. SHE WAS VERY NICE AND SENT ME THE CONTACT INFO FOR MY AREA'S FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, [XXX]. SHE LET ME KNOW SHE WAS CHECKING INTO THE PROBLEM BUT THAT THE ONLY REAL SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE HOOD. WHEN I HEARD BACK, SHE INFORMED ME THAT: "THE COST TO REPLACE THE HOOD OF YOUR MUSTANG WOULD COME TO APPROXIMATELY $2,483.32. I CAN ASSIST WITH 50% OF THIS REPAIR BUT NOT TO EXCEED $1,241.66 IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THAT ADDITIONAL REPAIRS ARE NEEDED. I HAVE CONTACTED [XXX] AT APPLE FORD AND ADVISED HIM OF MY OFFER. I CAN HONOR THIS OFFER FOR UP TO 30 DAYS FROM TODAY." I CANNOT AFFORD TO PUT OUT MONEY TO FIX THIS AND FEEL THAT A PROBLEM ORIGINATING IN THE ASSEMBLY PLANT, WHICH HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED, SHOULD NOT BE COVERED COMPLETELY BY FORD. IF THIS WERE A PROBLEM WITH THE MECHANICS OF THE CAR, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FULLY COVERED. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

HAVE TO COAST THROUGH TRAFFIC TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOP. RESTART THE CAR A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND THEN IT'S FINE. TOOK TO FORD DEALER, WHO SAID I HAD A BAD THROTTLE BODY. CHARGED OVER $800 TO REPAIR. COMPLETELY LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE! FORD HAS AGREED TO FIX DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODIES ON OTHER MODELS, BUT NOT THE MUSTANG. THIS REALLY LOOKS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM, AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. *TR

TODAY, NOV 5, 2014 WHEN LEAVING MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THE SAME LOSS OF SPEED OCCURRED IN 2ND GEAR AND THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE BACK TO THE LOCAL AUTO SHOP AND THEY DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. THE SOLENOID WAS BAD. FORTUNATELY, MY INCIDENTS HAPPENED AT A LOW SPEED. The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
