I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY DATED JULY 2015, ALMOST 8 MONTHS AGO INFORMING ME OF SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 15S21. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS RECALL THAT DETAILS THE POSSIBILITY OF A ABNORMALLY DEPLOYING DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH. I JUST SPOKE TO FORD (IT IS 23 FEBRUARY 2016 AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING) AND THEY INDICATED THAT THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS NECESSARY TO REPAIR THIS VERY SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG. THERE RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY WERE STILL WORKING WITH THE SUPPLIER FOR THE PARTS. THAT IS EXTREMELY UNACCEPTABLE, GIVEN THE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS NATURE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. I REQUEST THAT NHTSA CONTACT FORD AND PRESSURE THEM TO ACCELERATE THEIR EFFORTS IN ACQUIRING THE NECESSARY PARTS TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. NHTSA SHOULD FINE FORD FOR THEIR INACTION IN THIS MATTER. IT COULD BE A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH.

FORD HAS YET TO MAKE THE PARTS AVAILABLE AND TELLS ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING A CAR THSAT, BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION, COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THEY TOLD ME THE DIRECTOR OF THE NHTSA IS TELLING PEOPLE TO GO AHEAD AND DRIVE THESE CARS. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE PARTS FOR MONTHS AND DON'T WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR UNTIL THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. WHY IS FORD BEING ALLOWED TO GET BY WITH THIS. THEY SHOUDL EITHER FIX OUR CARS OR BUY THEM BACK FROM US. 9 DEATHS AND 136 SERIOUS INJURIES IS TERRIFYING. IF THEY CAN MAKE NEW CARS WITH SAFE AIR BAGS TO SELL AT THEIR DEALERSHIP, WHY CAN'T THEYAREN'T THEY BEING FORCED TO GET REPLACEMENT PARTS OUT TO THE CONSUMERS THEY SOLD DEFECTIVE CARS TO. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT, THE SO-CALLED SAFTEY FEATURE COULD KILL ME. WE, THE CONSUMERS, NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE TO GET THIS MATTER RECTIFIED.

I HAVE A 2012 MUSTANG GT WITH 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR AT ABOUT 2,500 MILES. THE CAR AT THAT POINT HAD A DEALER RE-BUILT TRANSMISSION AND MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT IT HAS 2ND THROUGH 6TH GEAR REPLACED DUE TO A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. SINCE THAT TIME I'VE HAD MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND THE CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 49,000 MILES. IN EARLY JANUARY, IT BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO 1ST GEAR. IT WAS VERY STIFF AND TOOK A LOT OF FORCE TO GET IT INTO 1ST. SHIFTING TO 2ND GEAR RESULTED IN A GEAR-MASHING SOUND. 3RD GEAR SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD CLUNK. 4TH THROUGH 6TH GEARS WERE FINE. THESE INCIDENTS BECAME WORSE AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE 2 DIFFERENT ACCIDENTS BY NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN THE NORTH ATLANTA, GA AREA AND THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR. THEIR TRANSMISSION TECH BELIEVED IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SYNCHRONIZERS. THE TECH DID NOT BELIEVE HE HAD THE EXPERTISE TO WORK ON THIS ISSUE AND REFERRED ME TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP. ON 1/14/16 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE 2ND DEALERSHIP AND THEIR TECH AGREED IT WAS THE SYNCHRONIZERS. THAT DEALERSHIP TOOK ABOUT 1 WEEK TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE ISSUE WAS NOT SOLVED; LOUD SOUNDS WERE COMING OUT OF THE REAR OF THE CAR. OVER THE PAST 2 WEEKS, THEY'VE ORDERED NUMEROUS REPLACEMENT PARTS. AS OF TODAY, 2/9/16, THERE ARE PARTS THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND ARE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE ETA FOR THE PARTS IS NOW 2/24/16. I'VE READ ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES OTHER MUSTANG OWNERS WITH THIS SPECIFIC 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION HAVE HAD AND PERSONALLY CAN SAY IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY WARNING FOR THE DRIVER. THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND NEW TRANSMISSIONS INSERTED AS A WHOLE UNIT VS. INSTALLING MULTIPLE PARTS. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE WILL CAUSE ME TO EXPERIENCE DIMINISHED VALUE AT RESALE.

PE11024 · Inability To Shift Gears On Acceleration

Opened Aug 3, 2011 · Closed Dec 14, 2011

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:manual Transmission

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
