ALMOST TOTAL LOSS OF ALL VEHICLE BRAKES FOLLOWING THE RUPTURE OF A FRONT BRAKE HOSE. EARLIER THAT EVENING I HAD A CRASH INTO A SIGN POST. I HAD EVIDENTLY DAMAGED THE RIGHT FRONT & REAR TIRES, AS THEY WENT FLAT ON THE WAY HOME. IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE CAR HOME, THE DAMAGED RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD PUNCTURED THE RIGHT FRONT BRAK…

ALMOST TOTAL LOSS OF ALL VEHICLE BRAKES FOLLOWING THE RUPTURE OF A FRONT BRAKE HOSE. EARLIER THAT EVENING I HAD A CRASH INTO A SIGN POST. I HAD EVIDENTLY DAMAGED THE RIGHT FRONT & REAR TIRES, AS THEY WENT FLAT ON THE WAY HOME. IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE CAR HOME, THE DAMAGED RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD PUNCTURED THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HOSE. I THEN NEARLY LOST ALL BRAKES INCLUDING THE REAR ONES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THE REPAIR OF THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM OF THE FRONT BRAKES, I REGAINED FULL HYDRAULIC BRAKING POWER. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT I WOULD HAVE SOME REAR BRAKES IN THE ADVENT OF FRONT BRAKE FAILURE. *AK

THE IGNITION SWITCH COULD EXPERIENCE AN INTERNAL SHORT CIRCUIT.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE OVERHEATING, SMOKE, AND POSSIBLY FIRE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AREA OF THE VEHICLE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH.

THE PARK ROD ASSEMBLY CONTAINS A PARK CAM WITH INADEQUATE SURFACE HARDNESS, WHICH COULD LEAD TO PARK DISENGAGEMENT OR NO PARK ENGAGEMENT WHEN THE LEVER IS PLACED IN PARK.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF PARK IS NOT ENGAGED AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS OFF, AVEHICLE ROLL-AWAY COULD RESULT.

Remedy: REPLACE PARK ROD ASSEMBLY ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
