Undocumented, programmed power loss at interstate speed. Power purposely and dangerously reduced at speed due, and is even displayed on the dash board with small "gray" bars within the "Power Gauge". The "Power Gauge" indicates power, regeneration and power reduction level. ***There is no reasoning in the Owners Manual explaining the power reduction.*** l only found this after I purchased the car; "When the system limits the available maximum power, the right side of the gauge shows gray lines representing the proportional reduction in available power."

All I was doing was charging the battery of the car at my house on a level two charger that was provided by Ford. I got a message on my Ford pass saying High voltage Battery warning. The car stopped charging at 59 percent of the battery capacity. The vehicle has only 2800 miles on it. Also got a power train malfunction/ reduced power warning as well and a service wrench when you turn on the car. This high voltage battery warning is a known issue on 2022 as I had it happen to me while driving it in a turn as I own one of those as well. But this is the 2023 that is not recalled. I have parked it outside of my garage as if the battery is getting hot enough to where it will stop charging this puts these vehicles all at the risk of something called thermal runaway. I do now know why this is not mentioned or even talked about with these types of batteries but basically, this happens when one cell goes into thermal runaway from being too hot and can melt the car. This is a huge safety concern. I have complained about it multiple times but have been ignored. I have parked my vehicle outside of my garage as I fear it may go into thermal away. I will take it to the dealer tomorrow. Please fix this NHSTA it's still not fixed. Happened to my 2022 Mustang Mach E with an extended-range battery now it's happening to my 2023 Mustang Mach e with an extended battery neither of which is part of the recall. If this is a known issue you must investigate it NHSTA and make Ford fix the issue not just wait until someone ends up dead this will not be acceptable and every time I have an issue like this and anyone who also has one should complain. Thermal runaway of a battery is a serious issue that can happen to this battery on the car. It is a real concern I have seen a battery much smaller on a helicopter go into thermal runaway it was not very pretty. Please Ford Fix this issue the high-voltage battery issue is already known.

With each subsequent wheel rotation there was a scraping sound synchronized with a torque dip in the propulsion. drove 1-2 blocks up street up to ~5 MPH and this symptom followed exact with speed. Stopped car, tried reverse a block, same thing, surging like propulsion with apparent torque dips in sync with speed. Repeated in drive, then reverse a few times, then parked back in garage to be towed into dealer. I put masking tape on steering wheel AND on Windshield saying not to drive over 2MPH to witness the symptoms. Upon receipt at dealer, was told symptom was then repeated, therefore car would be held for a while as it would need to be torn down and analyzed to find the cause. After 3 weeks, told not yet finding the cause, we discussed possibility of brakes where they agreed and was to pull them apart to inspect. Never did. Now 4 weeks later, still at dealer, telling me they cannot repeat the effect but that drove it around. I told speed may have wiped it away, this 2nd time it was towed in for this. I consider this a safety / drivability issue and want it noted, (And fixed of course).

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that after five minutes of attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle started. The contact then stated that a message displayed on the instrument panel “High Voltage Battery warning and to Contact Roadside Assistance” and “Powertrain Malfunction - Reduced Power”. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated and failed to accelerate while the accelerator pedal was depressed. Limited Power was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The car came to an abrupt stop and wouldn’t start up again. This happened three times. First time, I was at a charging station. Second time it happened in middle of the road while driving. It Put the safety of my family and me at danger. I had to call 911 to help manage busy traffic around me and towing service to take the car to dealership/service. The ford service center told me car was fixed - they had the car for 10 days before returning it to me. Two weeks and ~200 miles later the same thing happened yet again. My wife and child were stranded in middle of traffic. I am just thankful they were able to avoid collisions with other vehicles. The car has been back in the ship for another 24days and counting. Online forums indicate that my issue is not isolated. Ford has yet to comment or address my issue directly. Imagine the car coming to a full stop in the middle of a busy interstate highway!!

The HVBJB subassembly in ALL Ford Mach-e vehicles has known defects with 'under-designed' main contactors that are known to fail under normal charging and driving conditions as outlined in current open Ford recall notice for my vehicle 22s41. Unfortunately, the internal damage to contactors is not visible externally, and warning notices on display only after damage has occurred, and can result in sudden loss of propulsion power at highway speed, loss of power steering, and power brakes... and failure of other 12v systems due to failure to charge the 12v battery properly after contactors are damaged. Less catastrophic results can include failure to start; which can 'strand' driver's and passengers in remote areas, bad weather conditions, as well as cause loss of use for weeks due to delays in replacement parts and local Dealerships needing equipment and training to effect removal/replacement of faulty unit with a new HVBJB having re-designed 'beefier' components.​ ​ My complaint is that Ford's recall notice 22s41 is a software-only attempt to prevent future damage, and does not require removal of the part(s) which are KNOWN TO FAIL to be replaced with the re-designed components which are available, and have been used to repair failures under warranty. I have no way of inspecting the original equipment to evaluate current condition; and failure can result in sudden and unexpected loss of power, steering, and braking as well as potentially 'stranding me' in unsafe conditions unable to re-start my vehicle.​ Even though I have a MY 2023 Mach-E, it is known that the HVBJB is failing in '23s, and additional failures in earlier MYs that have had the HVBJB replaced with the newer part. ​ I would like to see NHTSA strengthen the Ford recall to include both improved software AND removal/replacement of the HVBJB sub-assembly with the new 'beefier' parts, even the latest revision of the part is still failing at an unacceptable rate.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Mustang Mache E vehicles that received a new Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) during a prior repair. The battery energy control module software may cause an incorrect state of charge to display in the vehicle, or lead to an increased risk of a high voltage battery fire after repeated DC Fast Charging cycles.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An inaccurate state-of-charge reading can lead to an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of crash. Additionally, a high voltage battery fire increases the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will update the BECM software, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 26, 2026. A software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. This will be a phased campaign, with the remedy becoming available in different phases based on model and model years. EA25001 · Collisions Involving Ford Bluecruise

On April 25, 2024, NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24012) to assess BlueCruise, a partial driving automation system available on certain vehicles manufactured by Ford Motor Company (Ford). NHTSA opened the investigation after the agency received notice of two fatal collisions involving BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles. Based on the incidents, NHTSA scoped the investigation to 2021-2024 Mustang Mach-E vehicles equipped with BlueCruise. In June 2024, ODI sent an Information Request (IR) letter to Ford requiring that it provide certain information pertaining to crashes, non-crash reports, and technical specifications that relate to BlueCruise, as well as other Ford partial driving automation systems that offer lane and speed maintenance. In its response to ODI’s IR, Ford stated that there are 2,539,962 Ford and Lincoln vehicles (including subject and peer vehicles) equipped with a partial driving automation system within the scope of the request. The majority of these vehicles are equipped with a system that Ford calls Lane Centering Assist (LCA), which is a hands-on partial driving automation system that combines longitudinal control authority governed by Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and lateral control authority governed by a steerable path. LCA is offered on a wide range of Ford and Lincoln models beginning in model year 2019. Vehicles that are equipped with BlueCruise, the focus of this investigation, have LCA capability and additionally offer hands-free partial driving automation when certain conditions are met. Hands-free BlueCruise operation is only offered on certain roadways and system availability is geofenced using vehicle GPS. BlueCruise-equipped vehicles employ a camera-based driver monitoring system to determine driver attentiveness to the roadway. BlueCruise was introduced in model year 2021 and is currently available in a select range of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. For BlueCruise- and LCA-equipped vehicles, both ACC and Pre-Collision Assist (PCA) features use a combination of camera and radar sensing technologies to detect and classify objects. ACC is specifically designed to detect vehicles (including cars, trucks, and motorcycles) and bicycles in front of the subject vehicle which are either stationary or moving in the same direction as the subject vehicle. Through this investigation, limitations in the detection of stationary vehicles in certain conditions have been identified. Specifically, due to the potential for false detection of stationary objects at long distances, Ford designed ACC to inhibit any response to reported stationary objects when the subject vehicle’s approach speed is at or above 62 mph. Additionally, system performance may be limited when there is poor visibility due to insufficient illumination. In addition to reviewing Ford’s response to ODI’s IR, the agency conducted a review of crash and non-crash reports identified collectively through Ford’s IR response, incident reporting through Standing General Order 2021-01 (SGO), and NHTSA vehicle owner questionnaires. In total, 32 crashes and 2,004 non-crash reports on subject and peer Ford vehicles were identified across manufacturer and ODI data sources. A detailed analysis of each crash was conducted including the review of any available police reports, photographs, data recovered from in-vehicle event data recorders, connected vehicle data, and/or other information. In both fatal collisions referenced in the PE24012 opening resume, the subject Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicle was traveling over 70 mph on a controlled-access highway during nighttime lighting conditions with hands-free BlueCruise engaged when it collided with a stationary vehicle. Analysis of data imaged from the vehicles’ event data recorders demonstrates that in each incident, the driver did not apply the brakes or take evasive steering action, and no deceleration was initiated by either the BlueCruise system or PCA prior to impact. Through the agency’s crash analysis, four additional frontal collisions were identified where the subject Ford impacted a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle or another stationary object located in the travel lane. Two of these four incidents involved BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles (included in the failure report summary along with the fatal collisions discussed above), while the other two involved other Ford models equipped with the LCA system. Additionally, a trend was identified through analysis of the non-crash reports relating to allegations that ACC (the longitudinal component of both BlueCruise and LCA) failed to detect and/or respond to a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle. In these reports, consumers often describe that the absence of deceleration initiated by ACC was unexpected and required harsh manual braking or intervention from the PCA to avoid a frontal collision with the lead vehicle. Based on NHTSA’s analysis, system limitations relating to the detection of stationary vehicles while traveling at highway speeds and in nighttime lighting conditions appear to be factors in collisions under investigation and several apparently similar near-miss, non-crash reports. This Engineering Analysis (EA) is being opened to further investigate these system limitations and to evaluate drivers’ ability to respond to scenarios that exceed system limitations. During the EA, the agency expects to, among other things, perform vehicle evaluations, review additional technical information, and perform additional analysis of related crashes and non-crash reports. BlueCruise was introduced in model year 2021 and is currently available in a select range of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. For BlueCruise- and LCA-equipped vehicles, both ACC and Pre-Collision Assist (PCA) features use a combination of camera and radar sensing technologies to detect and classify objects. ACC is specifically designed to detect vehicles (including cars, trucks, and motorcycles) and bicycles in front of the subject vehicle which are either stationary or moving in the same direction as the subject vehicle. Through this investigation, limitations in the detection of stationary vehicles in certain conditions have been identified. Specifically, due to the potential for false detection of stationary objects at long distances, Ford designed ACC to inhibit any response to reported stationary objects when the subject vehicle’s approach speed is at or above 62 mph. Additionally, system performance may be limited when there is poor visibility due to insufficient illumination. In addition to reviewing Ford’s response to ODI’s IR, the agency conducted a review of crash and non-crash reports identified collectively through Ford’s IR response, incident reporting through Standing General Order 2021-01 (SGO), and NHTSA vehicle owner questionnaires. In total, 32 crashes and 2,004 non-crash reports on subject and peer Ford vehicles were identified across manufacturer and ODI data sources. A detailed analysis of each crash was conducted including the review of any available police reports, photographs, data recovered from in-vehicle event data recorders, connected vehicle data, and/or other information. In both fatal collisions referenced in the PE24012 opening resume, the subject Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicle was traveling over 70 mph on a controlled-access highway during nighttime lighting conditions with hands-free BlueCruise engaged when it collided with a stationary vehicle. Analysis of data imaged from the vehicles’ event data recorders demonstrates that in each incident, the driver did not apply the brakes or take evasive steering action, and no deceleration was initiated by either the BlueCruise system or PCA prior to impact. Through the agency’s crash analysis, four additional frontal collisions were identified where the subject Ford impacted a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle or another stationary object located in the travel lane. Two of these four incidents involved BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles (included in the failure report summary along with the fatal collisions discussed above), while the other two involved other Ford models equipped with the LCA system. Additionally, a trend was identified through analysis of the non-crash reports relating to allegations that ACC (the longitudinal component of both BlueCruise and LCA) failed to detect and/or respond to a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle. In these reports, consumers often describe that the absence of deceleration initiated by ACC was unexpected and required harsh manual braking or intervention from the PCA to avoid a frontal collision with the lead vehicle. Based on NHTSA’s analysis, system limitations relating to the detection of stationary vehicles while traveling at highway speeds and in nighttime lighting conditions appear to be factors in collisions under investigation and several apparently similar near-miss, non-crash reports. This Preliminary Evaluation is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA25001) to further investigate these system limitations and to evaluate drivers’ ability to respond to scenarios that exceed system limitations. During the EA, the agency expects to, among other things, perform vehicle evaluations, review additional technical information, and perform additional analysis of related crashes and non-crash reports.
