While driving the vehicle came to an abrupt stop in the middle of traffic. The vehicle had to be changed to a tow mode as it was stuck in park. The vehicle had not been driven more than 3days at this point. The vehicle was towed to a nearby dealer who found no issue and gave the vehicle back with errors still in the dash. The vehicle was then brought to a second dealer who found no issues after 5days of inspection. They advised all codes see cleared by the previous dealer. Vehicle then stopped again in the middle of traffic with no warning and was towed again. This was he 3rd attempt at accessing the issue on a 2week old purchase of which I had driven at most 1week. The vehicle abruptly stops while driving, displays a battery icon, a car icon with and exclamation, and a turtle icon. To which it has each time this has happened and the dealer seems to find no issue with this and sends me out to drive in safely again.

All I was doing was charging the battery of the car at my house on a level two charger that was provided by Ford. I got a message on my Ford pass saying High voltage Battery warning. The car stopped charging at 59 percent of the battery capacity. The vehicle has only 2800 miles on it. Also got a power train malfunction/ reduced power warning as well and a service wrench when you turn on the car. This high voltage battery warning is a known issue on 2022 as I had it happen to me while driving it in a turn as I own one of those as well. But this is the 2023 that is not recalled. I have parked it outside of my garage as if the battery is getting hot enough to where it will stop charging this puts these vehicles all at the risk of something called thermal runaway. I do now know why this is not mentioned or even talked about with these types of batteries but basically, this happens when one cell goes into thermal runaway from being too hot and can melt the car. This is a huge safety concern. I have complained about it multiple times but have been ignored. I have parked my vehicle outside of my garage as I fear it may go into thermal away. I will take it to the dealer tomorrow. Please fix this NHSTA it's still not fixed. Happened to my 2022 Mustang Mach E with an extended-range battery now it's happening to my 2023 Mustang Mach e with an extended battery neither of which is part of the recall. If this is a known issue you must investigate it NHSTA and make Ford fix the issue not just wait until someone ends up dead this will not be acceptable and every time I have an issue like this and anyone who also has one should complain. Thermal runaway of a battery is a serious issue that can happen to this battery on the car. It is a real concern I have seen a battery much smaller on a helicopter go into thermal runaway it was not very pretty. Please Ford Fix this issue the high-voltage battery issue is already known.

On [XXX], I acquired the vehicle with an initial estimate of 6 miles on it. However, within just 1.5 days of ownership, I encountered a significant issue that has left my family and me in a state of distress. On [XXX], while heading into DC for a holiday event at Nationals Stadium with my husband and three small children, the car suddenly displayed a warning message urging me to "Stop Safely Now” with a turtle on it. Subsequently, the vehicle became unresponsive, leaving us stranded on a bridge with no shoulder. With limited knowledge of the car's functions, we attempted to troubleshoot, but to no avail. This is our first time ever going into DC. Given the urgency of the situation and the safety of my family, we called for a tow truck, which took an extended 1.5-2 hours to locate us due to the challenging location on the bridge. We even sought assistance from the local police to ensure our safety while waiting for the tow truck. Once at the charging station, our efforts to resolve the issue were in vain. Adding to our predicament, we found ourselves unable to access the vehicle, leaving us exposed to the elements on a [XXX]. With no other viable options, we had to call for a second tow truck, resulting in additional expenses. As of January 17, the car has been at the dealership since December 24, and we have yet to receive any updates on the resolution or an estimated time of completion. This situation had disrupted our holiday plans, causing distress to my family, especially the children, who were looking forward to Christmas traditions and festivities. The contact owns a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, a MIL warning illuminated, with the message “Immediate Loss of Power” displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off and the battery was drained. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped and independently shifted to park(P). The contact stated that the hazard lights were not able to be activated. The contact towed the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the high voltage battery contact had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V687000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

I have attached a letter to this email that ford recently sent me for my 2023 and 2022 mustang mach e. The one attached here is for the 2023 one. Supposedly software is supposed to fix a burning or melting of the charge port pins. I am not sure one of my cars looks like it may be arched but this letter from ford is ridiculous. I request a recall to inspect all charge port pins in all 2023 and 2022 mustang mach e's. I also request since ford is known for trying to use software to update electrical parts that may arc (I.E the battery control module) that a separate investigation be opened to this matter. There is currently no recall for this and I have a concern for both my vehicles now if arching can take place. Furthermore I have had two charging cables burn up on my 2022 mustang mach e Vin number [XXX] but thats besides the point. Point is there is no recall to something that software not installed that doesn't have a transfer function that predicts the charging port pin/terminal temperature. This seems like basic engineer electronics that should have been designed from the beginning to do this. With all the electrical issues these cars have I also question the entire design. More questions to follow are is this software not being installed on my car damaging my charging cable? (I.e why i had two get fried already and possibly have a third i just have not had time to take the third cable in yet) Also why are we not getting our cars inspected in a recall? If this software doesn't monitor the charging pin port/terminal temperature what if 10,000's of vehicles have arched terminal pins in them? We would never know if not been inspected. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Mustang Mache E vehicles that received a new Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) during a prior repair. The battery energy control module software may cause an incorrect state of charge to display in the vehicle, or lead to an increased risk of a high voltage battery fire after repeated DC Fast Charging cycles.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An inaccurate state-of-charge reading can lead to an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of crash. Additionally, a high voltage battery fire increases the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will update the BECM software, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 26, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in December 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S68. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, 2021-2024 Edge, 2022-2025 Escape, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, 2024 Ranger, Mustang, 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus, 2022-2024 Navigator, and 2023-2024 Corsair vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. This will be a phased campaign, with the remedy becoming available in different phases based on model and model years. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on June 26, 2025. Additional letters will be mailed once the final remedy is available on each phase. EA25001 · Collisions Involving Ford Bluecruise

On April 25, 2024, NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24012) to assess BlueCruise, a partial driving automation system available on certain vehicles manufactured by Ford Motor Company (Ford). NHTSA opened the investigation after the agency received notice of two fatal collisions involving BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles. Based on the incidents, NHTSA scoped the investigation to 2021-2024 Mustang Mach-E vehicles equipped with BlueCruise. In June 2024, ODI sent an Information Request (IR) letter to Ford requiring that it provide certain information pertaining to crashes, non-crash reports, and technical specifications that relate to BlueCruise, as well as other Ford partial driving automation systems that offer lane and speed maintenance. In its response to ODI’s IR, Ford stated that there are 2,539,962 Ford and Lincoln vehicles (including subject and peer vehicles) equipped with a partial driving automation system within the scope of the request. The majority of these vehicles are equipped with a system that Ford calls Lane Centering Assist (LCA), which is a hands-on partial driving automation system that combines longitudinal control authority governed by Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and lateral control authority governed by a steerable path. LCA is offered on a wide range of Ford and Lincoln models beginning in model year 2019. Vehicles that are equipped with BlueCruise, the focus of this investigation, have LCA capability and additionally offer hands-free partial driving automation when certain conditions are met. Hands-free BlueCruise operation is only offered on certain roadways and system availability is geofenced using vehicle GPS. BlueCruise-equipped vehicles employ a camera-based driver monitoring system to determine driver attentiveness to the roadway. BlueCruise was introduced in model year 2021 and is currently available in a select range of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. For BlueCruise- and LCA-equipped vehicles, both ACC and Pre-Collision Assist (PCA) features use a combination of camera and radar sensing technologies to detect and classify objects. ACC is specifically designed to detect vehicles (including cars, trucks, and motorcycles) and bicycles in front of the subject vehicle which are either stationary or moving in the same direction as the subject vehicle. Through this investigation, limitations in the detection of stationary vehicles in certain conditions have been identified. Specifically, due to the potential for false detection of stationary objects at long distances, Ford designed ACC to inhibit any response to reported stationary objects when the subject vehicle’s approach speed is at or above 62 mph. Additionally, system performance may be limited when there is poor visibility due to insufficient illumination. In addition to reviewing Ford’s response to ODI’s IR, the agency conducted a review of crash and non-crash reports identified collectively through Ford’s IR response, incident reporting through Standing General Order 2021-01 (SGO), and NHTSA vehicle owner questionnaires. In total, 32 crashes and 2,004 non-crash reports on subject and peer Ford vehicles were identified across manufacturer and ODI data sources. A detailed analysis of each crash was conducted including the review of any available police reports, photographs, data recovered from in-vehicle event data recorders, connected vehicle data, and/or other information. In both fatal collisions referenced in the PE24012 opening resume, the subject Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicle was traveling over 70 mph on a controlled-access highway during nighttime lighting conditions with hands-free BlueCruise engaged when it collided with a stationary vehicle. Analysis of data imaged from the vehicles’ event data recorders demonstrates that in each incident, the driver did not apply the brakes or take evasive steering action, and no deceleration was initiated by either the BlueCruise system or PCA prior to impact. Through the agency’s crash analysis, four additional frontal collisions were identified where the subject Ford impacted a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle or another stationary object located in the travel lane. Two of these four incidents involved BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles (included in the failure report summary along with the fatal collisions discussed above), while the other two involved other Ford models equipped with the LCA system. Additionally, a trend was identified through analysis of the non-crash reports relating to allegations that ACC (the longitudinal component of both BlueCruise and LCA) failed to detect and/or respond to a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle. In these reports, consumers often describe that the absence of deceleration initiated by ACC was unexpected and required harsh manual braking or intervention from the PCA to avoid a frontal collision with the lead vehicle. Based on NHTSA’s analysis, system limitations relating to the detection of stationary vehicles while traveling at highway speeds and in nighttime lighting conditions appear to be factors in collisions under investigation and several apparently similar near-miss, non-crash reports. This Engineering Analysis (EA) is being opened to further investigate these system limitations and to evaluate drivers’ ability to respond to scenarios that exceed system limitations. During the EA, the agency expects to, among other things, perform vehicle evaluations, review additional technical information, and perform additional analysis of related crashes and non-crash reports. ACC is specifically designed to detect vehicles (including cars, trucks, and motorcycles) and bicycles in front of the subject vehicle which are either stationary or moving in the same direction as the subject vehicle. Through this investigation, limitations in the detection of stationary vehicles in certain conditions have been identified. Specifically, due to the potential for false detection of stationary objects at long distances, Ford designed ACC to inhibit any response to reported stationary objects when the subject vehicle’s approach speed is at or above 62 mph. Additionally, system performance may be limited when there is poor visibility due to insufficient illumination. In addition to reviewing Ford’s response to ODI’s IR, the agency conducted a review of crash and non-crash reports identified collectively through Ford’s IR response, incident reporting through Standing General Order 2021-01 (SGO), and NHTSA vehicle owner questionnaires. In total, 32 crashes and 2,004 non-crash reports on subject and peer Ford vehicles were identified across manufacturer and ODI data sources. A detailed analysis of each crash was conducted including the review of any available police reports, photographs, data recovered from in-vehicle event data recorders, connected vehicle data, and/or other information. In both fatal collisions referenced in the PE24012 opening resume, the subject Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicle was traveling over 70 mph on a controlled-access highway during nighttime lighting conditions with hands-free BlueCruise engaged when it collided with a stationary vehicle. Analysis of data imaged from the vehicles’ event data recorders demonstrates that in each incident, the driver did not apply the brakes or take evasive steering action, and no deceleration was initiated by either the BlueCruise system or PCA prior to impact. Through the agency’s crash analysis, four additional frontal collisions were identified where the subject Ford impacted a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle or another stationary object located in the travel lane. Two of these four incidents involved BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles (included in the failure report summary along with the fatal collisions discussed above), while the other two involved other Ford models equipped with the LCA system. Additionally, a trend was identified through analysis of the non-crash reports relating to allegations that ACC (the longitudinal component of both BlueCruise and LCA) failed to detect and/or respond to a stopped or slow-moving lead vehicle. In these reports, consumers often describe that the absence of deceleration initiated by ACC was unexpected and required harsh manual braking or intervention from the PCA to avoid a frontal collision with the lead vehicle. Based on NHTSA’s analysis, system limitations relating to the detection of stationary vehicles while traveling at highway speeds and in nighttime lighting conditions appear to be factors in collisions under investigation and several apparently similar near-miss, non-crash reports. This Preliminary Evaluation is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA25001) to further investigate these system limitations and to evaluate drivers’ ability to respond to scenarios that exceed system limitations. During the EA, the agency expects to, among other things, perform vehicle evaluations, review additional technical information, and perform additional analysis of related crashes and non-crash reports.
