MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE 3 TIMES THIS YEAR ALONE FOR THE SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUE. EVERY TIME I GO IN THEY ADJUST SOMETHING OR REPLACE A SMALL PART, BUT NEVER COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM. IT SHUDDERS, HESITATES, BUCKS, AND KIND OF STALLS BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION IS TRYING TO SHIFT OR MAKING GRINDING NOISES. IT CAN DO IT SPEEDING UP OR SLOWING DOWN OR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVE, IT IS UNPREDICTABLE. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION ALSO OVER HEAT AND TELL ME TO PULL OVER ON LARGE BUSY ROADS AND HAVE A LOSS OF POWER WHEN NOT STOPPING FAST ENOUGH. IT IS SCARY WHEN MY CAR IS SHUDDERING GOING NO WHERE AND I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC OR GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WITH MY 2 KIDS IN THE CAR. FORDS RESPONSE IS TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR, SOME TIMES THEY SAY IT IS WITHIN SPECS AND SOMETIMES THEY SAY THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE IT WHILE I WAIT FOR PARTS TO COME IN, WHICH ARE USUALLY BACK ORDERED. THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME HERSELF THAT SHE WOULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR BUT I AM EXPECTED TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT GIVE ME A LOANER AND THEY HAVE NO PARTS TO FIX MY CAR, AND EVEN WHEN THEY DO "FIX IT" THE SAME PROBLEM STARTS AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS. I THINK THEY ARE JUST WAITING AND RIDING IT OUT UNTIL THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT ON IT. NOW TO TOP IT OFF THERE IS ALSO A RECALL ON THE DOOR LATCHES WHERE THE DOORS CAN JUST OPEN AND THEY ALSO DO NOT HAVE THOSE PARTS. IT IS AN UNSAFE CAR AND A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE THAT I AM GOING THROUGH. *TR

MY CAR HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL FROM THE COMPANY. THEY HAVE 3 RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION: TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING FOR OVERT TCM FAILURE WARNING TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER / TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT SEAL WARRANTY EXTENSION TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE I CALLED THEM TWICE AND THEY CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AND THEY FOUND ME ELIGIBLE TO GET MY CAR FIXED AT ONE OF THEIR DEALERS. I TOOK MY CAR THERE AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX MY CAR BECAUSE MY CAR HAS A BRANDED(SALVAGE) TITLE. NOW, IF YOU CAN'T BUILD A CAR RIGHT, LEAVE THIS BUSINESS TO SOMEBODY ELSE.WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THESE FAILURES IN THE TRANSMISSION, THIS TELLS ME THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION IS JUST A SCAM AND IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE.IF A CAR GOT A HIT IN THE TRUNK FAR AWAY FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT, WHAT THIS HAS TO DO WITH YOUR MISTAKE. WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR MISTAKE?DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM DOES TO THE CAR?HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED,I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE FREEWAY ALMOST 70 MILES/HOUR WITH MY FAMILY AND SUDDENLY MY CAR WAS NOT GOING FORWARD AND ALTHOUGH PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL,THE CAR WAS NOT SPEEDING. DO YOU REALIZE THAT ANY CAR FROM BEHIND COULD JUST HIT ME FROM THE BACK BECAUSE I DIDN'T HIT THE BRAKES AND NO BRAKES LIGHTS WERE ON NOR ANY WARNING THAT I WAS SLOWING DOWN.DO YOU KNOW HOW I WAS TERRIFIED TO GO FROM MY LANE TO THE SHOULDER WHILE LOSING SPEED AND ANY TRUCK OR CAR CAN HIT ME AND KILL ME WITH MY FAMILY.NO,YOU DON'T KNOW BECAUSE YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES. IF YOU CARE YOU WON'T LET THESE CARS RUN ON THE ROADS. 3 FAILURES IN THE TRANSMISSION, 2 OF THEM WILL COVER MY SALVAGE TITLE AND 1 WON'T COVER IT, WHY?? THE WAY I SEE IT IS YOU MESSED UP IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY ARE ALL CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER, WHY DO YOU COVER 2 FAULTS AND NOT THE 3RD ONE? *TR

THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AFTER THE CLUTCHES BEGAN TO BADLY SLIP. HAD NOTICED THE TRANS SLIP SOME AROUND TOWN BUT CAR WAS OKAY TO DRIVE. ON A WEEKEND TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS IT BEGAN TO SLIP SO BADLY THAT I DID NOT KNOW IF I WOULD MAKE IT BACK TO TOWN. APPARENTLY THE STRAIN ON THE TRANS FROM ALL THE HILLY CITY DRIVING COMPOUNDED THE ALREADY EXISTING PROBLEM THAT WAS OF NO CONCERN BACK HOME ON REGULAR TERRAIN. NOW THE TRANS IS DISPLAYING SOME OF THOSE SLIPPING CHARACTERISTICS AGAIN. I WAS PLANNING ANOTHER MOUNTAIN EXCURSION BUT AM NOW AFRAID TO DO SO. I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR NOR CAN I AFFORD TO PUT CONFIDENCE IN MY CAR ON ANY SUCH TRIP OUT OF TOWN. THIS CAR SHOULD LAST ME MANY TROUBLE FREE YEARS OF OPERATION AT LEAST AS FAR AS THE TRANSMISSION IS CONCERNED. I AM TRAPPED WITH A CAR THAT WILL PROBABLY BE BACK IN THE REPAIR SHOP BEFORE LONG. NOT TO MENTION THAT I SEE WHERE MANY FOCUS OWNERS ARE HAVING MULTIPLE REPAIR JOBS FOR THE SAME REASON. I LOVE THE CAR BUT AM THOROUGHLY DISMAYED THAT A LONG TERM FIX DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ATTAINABLE.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

RQ23006 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Sep 15, 2023 · Closed Dec 20, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:evaporative Emissions:canister

On September 15, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 98 consumer complaints alleging loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles. The RQ focused on the effectiveness of the remedies of Recall 18V-735 and 19V-515. In October 2018, Ford issued Recall 18V-735, which updated Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software in MY 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI engines built prior to April 13, 2017, and those with 2.0L GTDI engines built prior to February 2, 2018. The recall addressed vehicles experiencing a malfunctioning Canister Purge Valve (CPV) that can stick open and PCM software that does not adequately detect a stuck-open CPV condition. A CPV that is stuck open can cause excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system, potentially deforming the fuel tank, collapsing on itself. This deformation of the fuel tank can cause a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) to illuminate, an inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge indication, drivability issues, and/or loss of motive power. In July 2019, Ford issued Recall 19V-515, which addressed certain MY 2012 and MY 2017 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI and MY 2013-2014 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines whose PCM software had been reprogrammed as a part of recall 18V-735. The updated software calibrations for these subject vehicles were not properly installed by Ford at the time of production. Approximately one year after this RQ was opened, on September 25, 2024, Ford initiated a customer satisfaction program (24N07) for MY 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with the 2.0L GDI and GTDI engines to—as ODI learned during this investigation—address a different issue with the CPV from the primary focus of the safety recalls (18V-735 and 19V-515).  Ford stated the CPV may not operate as intended in these vehicles.  A failed CPV on its own merit, may cause drivability concerns such as engine hesitation, running rough, or stalling at low speed, which will be accompanied by an illuminated MIL. This program provides a one-time replacement of the CPV for vehicles with 15 years of service or less (with no mileage restriction). This coverage will automatically transfer to subsequent owners. It is to be noted that the customer satisfaction program being taken by Ford to address this RQ investigation results in a much different and significantly less severe problem than the safety action taken to remedy 18V-735 and 19V-515.  ODI found no further issues with the combined scope and severity related to 18V-735 and 19V-515 therefore, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

In December 2019, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 235 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging doors failed to latch when closed, and/or inadvertently opened while driving, on model year (MY) 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta, and 2013-2014 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. Some VOQs reported the failure occurred after the latch had been remedied under a prior recall which involved fracture of the latch pawl spring tab due to thermally induced cyclic fatigue. Other VOQs alleged a similar failure in vehicles not previously recalled. A latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a ?door will not close? condition, however in certain somewhat rare circumstances, may result in the door coming open while driving. In response to ODI?s investigation, Ford has announced three field actions, as discussed below. On March 23, 2020, Ford submitted Safety Recall 20V-177 (Ford 20S15), a regional recall campaign to address door latch failures in vehicles not previously recalled under Safety Recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 and 17V-210. The recall affects vehicles currently or ever registered in certain high ambient temperature states (see 20V-177 for affected states). As a remedy, Ford will replace all four door latches free of charge. On August 24, 2020, Ford issued a non-safety regional field action (Ford 20R01) to address door latch failures on the same model/MY vehicles not covered under 20V-177 (i.e., not currently/ever registered in affected states). According to Ford, spring tab failure rates for vehicles covered by this action are about half that of the 20V-177 vehicles. Under this action, dealers will replace all door latches, free of charge, if either; a) the vehicle exhibits a related latch concern, or b) if the vehicle owner expresses a concern about the latches in their vehicles. Details can be found under NHTSA TSB No. 10190990, a copy of which is available in this investigative file available at NHTSA.gov.On June 8, 2020, Ford submitted Safety Recall 20V-331 (Ford 20S30) addressing vehicles previously remedied under NHTSA Recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 and 17V-210, where the repair may not have been properly completed, specifically not all of the door latches were replaced, or replaced correctly. This recall involves an inspection of the latches, with the option for a consumer self-inspection; owners could view the date codes on their latches (and confirm child safety locks are present on the rear doors) and then submit the information to Ford?s mobile app or website. A dealership inspection option was also available. Any vehicle found to have unreplaced defective latches requires the replacement of all door latches as directed by Ford.Regarding the 4,494 reports cited above, 1,485 involve scope-related failures (with 13% alleging door opening), and the remaining 3,009 reports involving remedy concerns (with 18% alleging door opening - note ODI was unable to verify the allegations of door opening). The three ODI injuries were all relatively minor. Ford?s reported injury incidences include one (unconfirmed) report of an ejection, three minor injuries with the others involving undisclosed injuries. Ford?s crashes involved two (unconfirmed) crashes alleging the incident door contacted another vehicle and three involving doors striking other property. The recalled vehicles include MY 2011-2015 Ford Fiesta, 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015 Ford Mustang and Lincoln MKC, 2013-2015 Ford Escape and Ford C-MAX, 2012-2015 Ford Focus and 2014-2016 Ford Transit Connect.Ford's actions address ODI's concerns at this time. ODI will take further action if warranted by new information. The reference (OD
