FORD COMPANY KNOWINGLY PUT FAULTY A TRANSMISSION IN THEIR VEHICLES. TO REMEDY THE SITUATION THEY THEN GAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE TRANSMISSION, BUT WHEN TAKE YOUR CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR THINGS THAT PART OF THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS VERY MISLEADING TO CONSUMERS AND A HAZARD FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN SAFETY ON THE ROAD. THE GEARS SHIFT WHILE IN MOTION, WHICH HAS ALMOST SEVERAL TIMES CAUSED OTHER VEHICLES TO HIT ME. WHEN AT A STOP PULLING OFF IT WILL BARELY ACCELERATE OR GIVE A JERKING ACCELERATION, WHICH IS AWFUL WHEN PEDESTRIANS ARE NEAR. ALL OF WHICH HAPPENS SPORADICALLY ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN CITY TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM 2 YEARS AND THUS FAR I'VE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THREE DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIP AND NONE ARE WILLING TO UPHOLD THE FORD WARRANTY AND/OR ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT FORD KNOWS IS A HAZARD. IN CLOSING, I RECEIVED NOTICE ABOUT AN SETTLEMENT REGARDING THIS VEHICLE, I RECEIVED NOTHING AND I'M STUCK WITH A VEHICLE NO ONE WILL REPAIR. *TR

DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION;THE CAR HESITATES AND SPUTTERS WHEN YOU ACCELERATE, AS IF IT IS GOING TO SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. LAST YEAR, I RECEIVED NOTICE OF LAWSUIT FILED IN CALIFORNIA AS TO THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD SETTLE WITH A DISPUTE RESOLUTION SPECIALIST WHICH DENIED ME THE REPURCHASE/REPLACEMENT BECAUSE I HAVE A 5 YEAR WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE AND CANNOT BE FIXED, IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE WARRANTY IS 5 YEARS OR MORE. THE TRADE-IN VALUE OF THIS CAR IS SO LOW, I CANNOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE. I JUST WANT ALL TO KNOW THAT FORD DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLES.

I GOT VEHICLE AT A WELL KNOWN CAR DEALERSHIP - USED. IT WAS GIVEN '120 POINT INSPECTION' SO THE CAR WAS IN 'GOOD TO GO' CONDITION. I WALKED OUT WITH LUCKILY SOME MAX PROTECTION INSURANCE FROM THEM, WHERE THEY WOULD COVER ANY NON- WARE & TEAR REPAIRS. GREAT DECISION AT FIRST, MAYBE NOT EVEN A YEAR IN AT ROUGHLY 80K MILES THE CAR AC DOES NOT GET COOL, WHEN AT A STOP OR SLOW SPEED THE CAR WOULD START TO OVERHEAT & IN STALL - THIS IS A MANUAL VEHICLE SO YOU WOULD HAVE TO DROP GEAR IN ORDER TO GAIN SPEED BACK AND COOL THE ENGINE. THE COOLING FAN WASN'T TURNING OVER ST ANY POINT, I REPLACED THE FUSE MAYBE 3-4 TIMES AND IT KEPT BLOWING OUT. FINALLY I TOOK IT IN TO GET CHECKED OUT, APPARENTLY THE FAN RELAY FUSE WAS BLOWN OUT CAUSING THE SMALLER FUSE TO BLOW, ALL THIS RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE AC COMPRESSOR HAVING TO BE REPLACED, 2,700 IN REPAIRS WITH A DEDUCTIBLE OF 200 BUCKS. CAN'T BEAT THAT RIGHT? WRONG, HERE I AM ROUGHLY 9-10 MONTHS LATER WITH THE SAME ISSUES HAPPENING AGAIN, CAR OVERHEATING WHEN THE AC IS ON, OR AT A HAULT WITH THE FAN NOT KICKING OVER. FORD: YOU ARE A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY, YOU NEED TO MAKE A CAR / SYSTEM THAT CAN WITHTAND ARIZONA'S 110+ DEGREE WEATHER DURING THE SUMMER. THIS SEEMS TO CLEARLY BE A ELECTRICAL ISSUE, AS THIS ISN'T THE FIRST, SECOND OR EVEN THIRD ISSUE I'VE HAD WITH THE VEHICLE. INCLUDING MAKER RECALLS.

EA26004 · Timing Belt Failure

Opened Jul 31, 2026 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Engine; Engine And Engine Cooling:engine:gasoline:belts And Associated Pulleys

On December 18, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE25020 to investigate instances of timing belt failure in model year (MY) 2015-2017 Ford Fiesta and MY 2015-2018 Ford Focus vehicles manufactured by Ford Motor Company (Ford), equipped with a 1.0L engine and manual transmission (subject vehicles). Additionally, MY 2018-2021 Ford EcoSport and MY 2016-2018 Focus vehicles with a 1.0L engine and automatic transmission were analyzed as peer vehicles because they utilize a wet timing belt comprised of similar material as the timing belt in the subject vehicles. Through the PE, ODI investigated a potential failure/degradation of the timing belt that may affect oil pump function resulting in a lack of engine lubrication and potential loss of motive power. The complaints commonly allege a low engine oil pressure warning lamp immediately preceding a complete loss or reduction of motive power while the vehicle is in motion. Some complaints allege that a sudden loss of motive power or engine seizure occurred without warning or prior detectable symptoms. ODI’s analysis supports that this failure can occur without sufficient and advanced warning to the driver that a loss of motive power/engine seizure is imminent. ODI found that the timing belt material may degrade and create debris that clogs the mesh oil pump pick-up screen, resulting in reduced oil pressure in the engine. As additional debris accumulates on the screen, this can progress to a loss of motive power while driving due to a lack of engine lubrication. The failure data provided in response to this investigation revealed an average failure mileage of approximately 70,000 miles, and that 98% of the failures occurred prior to the 150,000 mile timing belt replacement interval per the vehicles’ maintenance schedule. Based on evidence collected via consumer surveys and an engine teardown, failures have occurred despite evidence of proper and routine oil maintenance. The oil pump pick-up screen is not serviceable, so debris accumulation cannot be inspected or manually removed without removing the engine from the vehicle. On June 2, 2026, Ford informed ODI of a non-safety customer satisfaction program for global vehicles with the 1.0L Fox Classic Timing Belt. This program will notify customers globally of a revised maintenance interval for the timing belt, reducing the original 150,000 mile interval down to 100,000 miles/6 years. This customer satisfaction program will also offer reimbursement to eligible customers who previously paid to have their engine repaired or replaced due to a timing belt related issue. Based on NHTSA’s analysis of the data, failure rates, information provided by Ford, preliminary engine teardown analysis, and precedent recalls regarding loss of engine oil pressure with the presence of driver facing warnings, ODI believes there is an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis to perform component-level and vehicle testing. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

Therefore, this Preliminary Evaluation is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA26004). During this Engineering Analysis, the agency plans to perform component-level and vehicle testing. Therefore, this Preliminary Evaluation is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA26004). During this Engineering Analysis, the agency plans to perform component-level and vehicle testing. Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Latches/locks/linkages; Latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch; Structure:body; Structure:body:door

In December 2019, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 235 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging doors failed to latch when closed, and/or inadvertently opened while driving, on model year (MY) 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta, and 2013-2014 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. Some VOQs reported the failure occurred after the latch had been remedied under a prior recall which involved fracture of the latch pawl spring tab due to thermally induced cyclic fatigue. Other VOQs alleged a similar failure in vehicles not previously recalled. A latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a ?door will not close? condition, however in certain somewhat rare circumstances, may result in the door coming open while driving. In response to ODI?s investigation, Ford has announced three field actions, as discussed below. On March 23, 2020, Ford submitted Safety Recall 20V-177 (Ford 20S15), a regional recall campaign to address door latch failures in vehicles not previously recalled under Safety Recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 and 17V-210. The recall affects vehicles currently or ever registered in certain high ambient temperature states (see 20V-177 for affected states). As a remedy, Ford will replace all four door latches free of charge. On August 24, 2020, Ford issued a non-safety regional field action (Ford 20R01) to address door latch failures on the same model/MY vehicles not covered under 20V-177 (i.e., not currently/ever registered in affected states). According to Ford, spring tab failure rates for vehicles covered by this action are about half that of the 20V-177 vehicles. Under this action, dealers will replace all door latches, free of charge, if either; a) the vehicle exhibits a related latch concern, or b) if the vehicle owner expresses a concern about the latches in their vehicles. Details can be found under NHTSA TSB No. 10190990, a copy of which is available in this investigative file available at NHTSA.gov.On June 8, 2020, Ford submitted Safety Recall 20V-331 (Ford 20S30) addressing vehicles previously remedied under NHTSA Recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 and 17V-210, where the repair may not have been properly completed, specifically not all of the door latches were replaced, or replaced correctly. This recall involves an inspection of the latches, with the option for a consumer self-inspection; owners could view the date codes on their latches (and confirm child safety locks are present on the rear doors) and then submit the information to Ford?s mobile app or website. A dealership inspection option was also available. Any vehicle found to have unreplaced defective latches requires the replacement of all door latches as directed by Ford.Regarding the 4,494 reports cited above, 1,485 involve scope-related failures (with 13% alleging door opening), and the remaining 3,009 reports involving remedy concerns (with 18% alleging door opening - note ODI was unable to verify the allegations of door opening). The three ODI injuries were all relatively minor. Ford?s reported injury incidences include one (unconfirmed) report of an ejection, three minor injuries with the others involving undisclosed injuries. Ford?s crashes involved two (unconfirmed) crashes alleging the incident door contacted another vehicle and three involving doors striking other property. The recalled vehicles include MY 2011-2015 Ford Fiesta, 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015 Ford Mustang and Lincoln MKC, 2013-2015 Ford Escape and Ford C-MAX, 2012-2015 Ford Focus and 2014-2016 Ford Transit Connect.Ford's actions address ODI's concerns at this time. ODI will take further action if warranted by new information. The reference (OD
