Highway Incident: While traveling at highway speeds, a sudden evasive braking maneuver caused the truck to drop power. Upon attempting to re-accelerate, the throttle pedal went to the floor with zero response, and the vehicle continued to decelerate on an active highway. Multiple trailing vehicles had to make emergency maneuvers to swerve around the decelerating truck to avoid a high-speed, rear-end collision. Subsequent Incidents: The vehicle repeatedly forces an uncommanded speed limit of 11 mph while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop or merge from stop signs. This severe lack of predictable acceleration creates an immediate risk of being T-boned or rear-ended by cross-traffic, making the vehicle entirely unsafe to operate in normal traffic conditions. An authorized Ford dealership has confirmed the underlying failure of the hybrid system. They kept the vehicle for approximately one month to replace the entire hybrid drive unit. Following that repair, the vehicle was returned to the dealer a second time, where technicians confirmed a software communication failure between the electric and gas systems, attempting to resolve it by flashing/reprogramming the ECU. The vehicle’s hybrid system and software have been extensively inspected and worked on by manufacturer-certified technicians at an authorized Ford dealership. It has not been inspected by police or insurance, as no physical collision has occurred yet. No warning lamps or messages.

At times mainly turning Right or Left you have no acceleration while pushing the gas pedal. Its like the pedal is dead and then all of sudden it kicks in and accelerates abruptly. Huge safety hazard in multiple ways.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently accelerated, and the contact heard an abnormal sound. The contact stated that the transmission upshifted from third gear into fifth gear. The contact stated that occasionally while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the low-voltage battery and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed hybrid EV battery pack. The contact was informed that the hybrid EV battery pack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to several dealers due to the persistent failure and the hybrid EV battery pack was replaced twice. The failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

the blue cruise hands free driving feature does not work and has guided the vehicle off of the road. It also asks the driver to take the steering wheel, but will not register that has happened without a very hard pull on the wheel, which pulls the vehicle into other lanes of traffic. this is a very dangerous situation.

Loss of Acceleration in 2022 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid I am writing to report a safety issue with my 2022 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid, which has been experiencing acceleration lag and loss of power during regular driving conditions. Component/System that Failed: The powertrain system, specifically related to the integration between the electric motor and gasoline engine, appears to be malfunctioning. This issue primarily affects the vehicle's ability to accelerate after a stop or during turns. Safety Risk: The loss of acceleration poses a significant safety risk to both myself and others on the road. The delay in throttle response has caused the truck to remain in a low gear for several seconds, even with the accelerator fully pressed. This issue has occurred while merging onto highways, when moving through intersections, where quick acceleration is necessary to avoid collisions and a simply stop signs taking a turn where I'm not able to accelerate after. The delay increases the likelihood of rear-end collisions and creates dangerous situations, especially in heavy traffic. The problem has been reproduced by a dealer and many other owners have reported the same issue. I'm hoping that Ford has releases Powertrain Control Module (PCM) update aimed at addressing this, but the issue persists for many, including myself after recent PCM updates. The vehicle has been formally inspected by my local Ford dealership. They will be applying a PCM update on 10/10/2024. There were no warning lamps or error messages that appeared before or during the incidents. The problem occurs unexpectedly, usually when I press the accelerator, particularly in Eco or Normal driving modes. The issue has been less frequent in Sport and Tow/Haul modes, but this results in increased fuel consumption, which negates the advantages of the hybrid system.

When traveling at low speeds, 10-15 mph, and coasting (no accelerator input) then pressing the accelerator there is no response. The engine will not rev up and the truck will not accelerate for a good 6-8 seconds. It happens usually in parking lots or when making low speed turns onto street intersections or pulling out of driveways. This is dangerous, as pulling in front of traffic then having no acceleration for several seconds could cause a rear-ending accident. It also happens often when going over steep small speed bumps in the parking garage at my office. It's very annoying and in some situations very dangerous. This has been happening since I bought the truck in January 2023. It is now Sept 2024.
