The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the heating system was enabled; however, the heater system failed to provide adequate heat as intended. The contact became aware that cool air was coming out of the vents. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion in cylinder #3. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. Additionally, the repair was not covered under a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Engine overheated, Few months prior I got a check engine light for engine misfire, I changed the spark plugs several times, then I changed the ignition coil; but still having the same issue. One day, the vehicle stalled on the highway because it suddenly overheated (the engine drank all the coolant) White smoke coming from exhaust and coolant drains every 2 days. Took it to the mechanic and was told its head gasket problem. Took it to Ford service center and was told I need to replace the engine. The cost is $9800. Ford is offering no financial assistance. TSB 19-2345 highlights the issue yet Ford refuses to help customers experiencing this problem. I’m unable to drive the vehicle because it fails the state inspection even with a temporary fix.

Vehicle: 2018 Ford Edge Titanium AWD, 2.0L EcoBoost VIN: [XXX] I am reporting a serious safety concern involving my 2018 Ford Edge following an engine block replacement performed by Power Ford in [XXX], due to the known coolant intrusion issue. Before the engine replacement, I routinely drove long trips between [XXX], [XXX], and [XXX] without any loss of power or drivability problems. Immediately after the engine replacement, the vehicle began experiencing an intermittent but repeatable loss of power. After approximately 30–40 minutes of highway driving, especially on sustained uphill grades, the engine revs to about 4,000 RPM, but the vehicle will not accelerate and may actually lose speed. Turning the ignition off and restarting immediately restores normal operation until the problem occurs again. This creates a significant safety hazard while driving at highway speeds. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice for the same complaint. During the first visit, DTC P1016 was found, and the wastegate control solenoid was replaced. The repair did not resolve the issue. On the first extended highway trip after the repair, the exact same condition occurred again. I returned the vehicle and provided multiple videos documenting the failure. The dealership stated they could not duplicate the concern and reported the turbo and boost system were operating normally. However, I reproduced the same failure again immediately after picking up the vehicle and submitted another video. The dealership later suggested a possible transmission issue but requested another diagnostic fee. I have opened a Ford Customer Care case (XXX), but the original safety concern remains unresolved. I am requesting that NHTSA review this complaint because the loss of power began immediately after the engine replacement, has persisted despite repair attempts, and presents a serious highway safety risk. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles. The rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 13, 2026. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A brake fluid leak can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the brake jounce hoses and adjust brake jounce hoses with no damage present, free of charge. Interim owner letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed September 8, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated August 2026. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford Edge and 2017 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. On vehicles with 2.0L gas engines and six-speed automatic transmissions, the torque converter weld studs may have been inadequately welded.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition on August 5, 2026, requesting a defect investigation into the 2.0 Liter EcoBoost engine on model year 2015-2018 Ford Edge vehicles. The petition alleges that engine coolant intrusion results in a significant loss of engine power, accompanied by an "Engine Coolant Over Temperature" warning message. The petition further alleges that after the vehicle has sat and cooled down, the engine runs roughly and generates a check engine light for a cylinder misfire.
