2018 Ford Edge

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle experienced severe shaking and vibrations coming from the engine compartment. Additionally, there was a clanking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine. The contact was advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 64,000.

2018 Ford Escape Titanium with Ecoboost. Zero problems until 66,000 miles when the coolant started leaking into the spark plugs and cylinder 2 started misfiring. I was told I would need to replace the engine at $8,000 cost. Steve's Car Care had an email about this issue. Apparently, Ford knows about it. This is an issue that should definitely be a recall fix by Ford.

I have approximately 53000 miles on my vehicle. The Engine light turned on end of Aug. So I took it to a service center. They said the message code was P306 & P0316. They inspected and said the cylinder is misfiring, coolant has gotten into the cylinder, and the gasket is mush. The engine is rough running and told me to take it to Ford, I will need a new engine. In searching this problem I found a TSB 22-2229 & an NHSTA 19-2208, 19-2172. Ford can't get me in until end of September to verify. I've found several references to this problem causing an engine fire, I also found a class action suit recently filed in California for this problem. Ford has not issued a recall for this problem and I don't understand. They redesigned the engine in 2021 as they knew it was a faulty design. I didn't know that. I don't have another vehicle to drive, meanwhile I'm making car payments on it. Ford won't provide a car for me to use. I don't want to drive my car with [XXX] knowing this problem could cause harm to me, them and others. Please advise. I first noticed the sound of water running in the dash each time I started the car. At that time I don’t recall an engine light on. It would sound like bubbles and water running for 10 seconds or so and then it would go away. That lasted a while before I was driving home from work and on two consecutive mornings my car lost acceleration power. This is dangerous in that I have to cross traffic on a busy road and had I tried to go quickly between cars I definitely couldn’t have moved to get out of the way. Each time this happened I pulled over and restarted the car and was able to get home. While waiting for my appointment with ford my car overheated and I got an engine overheat prompt. This was in the middle of summer and I had my two kids in the car. I drove to an auto zone and my dad met me to help add more coolant. At first glance it looked low, but once he opened the cap it bubbled up to appropriate levels. So overall we didn’t add too much coolant. I took it into ford and they told me I had an engine coolant leak into the main block and I had to replace my entire engine out of pocket. My car was at ford for 30 days waiting for replacement and the installation.

Earlier this year, I had a crack form in my engine block that resulted in coolant intrusion in the engine. This was a safety risk as it resulted in a complete failure of my engine, loss of all coolant and was a fire risk. Ford has had significant issues with this in multiple models and years, yet the 2018 Ford Edge continues to be excluded from these recalls. This issue did result in a recall in Canada and is pending a class action lawsuit on the 2018 Ford Edge. The lawsuit, entitled [XXX], et al. v. Ford Motor Company, is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, Case No. [XXX] . I required 2 repairs to remedy this known safety issue that the NHTSA has yet to acknowledge or require Ford to address. All of this with 38,000 miles on the vehicle. I have seen this exact issue addressed in model years before and after 2018, but have yet to see progress on remediation for the 2018 year. The contact was advised that the vehicle was not associated with either. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

My 2018 Ford Edge SEL AWD 2.0L Ecoboost just had a Long Block replacement due to a “Coolant Intrusion” into the engine. Got the vehicle back from the Ford dealership today. I had this car factory-built for myself in 2018, and I only have 28,000 miles on it! And GET THIS... the super-duper six-year extended Warranty I paid over $5,000 for when I bought the Edge expired just 5 WEEKS BEFORE THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. Talk about unfortunate timing! I have been reading on the internet about many, many people who are having the same problem with Ecoboost engines, due to a manufacturing defect that Ford has admitted to for certain makes/models/years with Ecoboost engines… and that the vehicles have caught on fire in some instances. Mind you, I have only taken my Edge to Ford dealerships. Like clockwork, I am VERY proactive about my car check-ups... and then some. I took it to the Ford dealership the day my "check engine" light came on (no other indications before that). I had my 1996 Ford Mustang convertible for 22 years before changing to this Edge, and that car still looked like new. I baby my cars. The day they told me what the problem was and that the Estimate was a $7,800 Long Block repair due to "Coolant Intrusion into the Engine", I looked it up on the internet and saw my same problem EVERYWHERE! This should have been a Recall. Is Ford waiting for people to die before they would do a Recall?
