The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the gear selector lever to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the gear selector lever to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to another local dealer, Parkway Ford (311 Commercial Pkwy, Dover, OH 44622: (330) 343-6681) where the vehicle was diagnosed with needing the gear selector lever to be replaced again. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact called Parkway Ford and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and extended to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to immediately stop, nearly causing a rear-end collision with another vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to an independent dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal, with the check engine warning light and fuel filler inlet message illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and the local dealers were notified but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 136,000.

Summer 2022 my brakes started giving out … when coming to a stop, the brake pad goes all of the way to the floor makes a sound similar to a pump or a hiss. It “corrected” itself after a few pumps on the brake peddle after about five minutes. It happened a second time so I took it back to the company who had replaced my brakes 2/3 yrs prior … they could not find anything wrong w/them. It happened again, I took car back to same place with same results. Later in the year it happened for a 4th time but did not correct itself as it had in the past, I drove home at 30mph for over 30 minutes leaving a lot of space between myself and cars in front. The car sat for about a month then my brother drove it and experienced the same problem. I had the car towed to a mechanic who could not replicate the problem therefore could not fix what he couldn’t find but he did bleed the brakes. I rented a car for a short while but when I did drive it again, the same problem occurred and corrected itself. I took it to a different mechanic who also could not replicate the problem, he tried 3 times. I have experienced the same problem at least three times this year, the last time being last week. My and any passengers safety is at risk daily; fortunately, most times I have been parking or on surface streets when this has happened. There have been no warning signs before the brakes give out. I plan on taking car to dealership this weekend.

2012 Ford Edge -The passenger door will shut but the alarm that came with the car says that the door is not shut. The alarm will not work when the car detects the door is not shut, so the interior lights will not turn off. Will this affect my battery? When I drive with the sensor on the dashboard states the door is not closed and the interior light will not shut off which becomes a distraction at night. When driving the car, the locks will not work because the dashboard senses the door is not closed. This is a family car with a child still in a car seat. Anyone can jump in my car? There a lot of blogs I found with the same situation, so Ford must know that the problem exists. The door has not been damaged. This is not part of wear and tear because a door is something that need to open and close. The situation is getting worse and worse that when im driving the dashboard announces the closed door is now open and unlocks all my doors and turns on my interior lights on.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle after refueling, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle jerked. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled while in traffic. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and exited the highway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the fuel line pulse damper metal housing was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel line needed to be replaced with one that did not have a damper. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 14V002000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) or 12V438000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) as the VIN was not included. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 105,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that on numerous occasions the door ajar warning light intermittently illuminated while all the doors were properly closed. The contact then stated that the navigation system and the rear-view camera intermittently displayed a distorted or blank screen. Additionally, the contact stated that the theft system alarm started to malfunction and was inadvertently activated. As a result, the battery failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the open-door sensor circuit failed, and the door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number and transferred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 151,193.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Edge vehicles manufactured from September 2, 2010, through April 25, 2013, and equipped with 2.0L engines. The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 25, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 13S13. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 12V-438. All vehicles that have been remedied under the previous recall need to have the current remedy applied.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation on September 28, 2016 based on allegations that the door ajar light located on the instrument cluster stays on all of the time even when all doors are closed and fully latched on 2011-2013 model year Ford Edge vehicles.When the light is illuminated continuously, vehicle occupants cannot be certain if any of the doors are properly latched.Reported safety consequences as a result of this issue include doors opening while driving (because doors were initially not latched properly), doors cannot be locked while driving, and the interior dome lights staying on continuously. Ford data received from the Information Request letter corresponding to this investigation indicates the failures were caused by contamination of the electrical contacts on the switch located within each door latch that tells the vehicle if the door is open or closed.All four doors contain the same latch design and switch.According to Ford, the Body Control Module (BCM) monitors the position of the switch and continuously samples it to detect a state of change.After a closed door state is detected, a continuous wetting current designed to keep the electrical contacts clean is sent from the BCM to the switches as long as the BCM is active.Beginning with the 2011 model year Edge vehicles, a change in BCM strategy resulted in a reduction of the wetting current sent out to clean the switch contacts by more than 75%.Over time, this low level of current is not sufficient to keep the switch contacts clean and contamination build up causes them to fail as described above.During the course of this investigation, ODI has identified a total of 1,983 complaints related to the door ajar light.Of these complaints, 14 indicated that a door opened while driving.Twelve of the 14 door opening events were situations where an occupant of the vehicle (often a child) opened a passenger door because the doors were not locked.The remaining two complaints involved a door opening on its own because the driver was unaware that the door was unlatched.There were no accidents but one complainant reported that a shoulder injury was caused by the driver having to repeatedly slam the door in an effort to get the door ajar light to turn off.After reviewing all available data, an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety has not been identified.The door latches themselves continue to function properly, remaining securely latched until acted upon by a driver or passenger.Child safety locks on the rear doors continue to function properly and can be used to prevent the rear doors from opening via the inside door handles.Vehicle crashworthiness is not affected by the lock condition of the doors and all active safety systems continue to function normally even if the vehicle BCM believes one or more doors is open.In addition, no accidents or accident related injuries have been reported.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, the investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right to take future action if warranted by the circumstances.ODI numbers for the reports cited above are shown in the attached document.
