The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake pedal would intermittently harden upon depression without warning. The contact stated that the failure made it difficult to stop the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the brake master cylinder was replaced. After the repair, the contact stated that the braking system had slightly improved; however, the failure persisted. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. The consumer stated took the vehicle back to the dealer who determined it was the booster and replaced it.

The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brake booster to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving approximately 30 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floor but failed to fully stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to another local dealer: Joe Myers Ford (16634 Northwest Fwy, Houston, TX 77040: (713) 766-3600) where it was diagnosed with needing the master cylinder to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving approximately 25 MPH, while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floor but failed to fully stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to Joe Myers Ford dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the hydraulic ABS module unit to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The Power Brake Booster diaphragm fails. This caused the brakes to feel rock hard when depressing the pedal and almost not stop the vehicle. There is also a "hissing noise" when depressing the brake pedal. At other times the brake pedal will slowly sink to the floor while being depressed at a stop light. The vehicle is unsafe and can't be driven safely. It only has 115,762 miles on it. An independent repair shop confirmed the vacuum leak in the Power Brake Booster and suggested we contact Ford because they heard this is a consistent issue with this model. One representative at Ford did acknowledge that they have a failure of the power brake booster diaphragm and that they had extended the warranty on this specific item. I went to get it repaired at the dealership and they claim that warranty ended in May 2022 even though I have not exceeded the mileage of this extended warranty (120,000). Another Ford representative today indicated that there isn't an extended warranty for this item, but rather it is a recall item. She then said that there isn't a program for the repair, however. This is a legit safety issue that Ford acknowledges exists, but they aren't willing to correct the issue. That is unacceptable. Someone is going to get hurt and Ford knows it, but doesn't care. Who can help get this corrected?

The door ajar sensor is faulty. The lights stay on in the car even after the door is closed. This is a safety risk when driving at night. While driving the audible ding will go off while driving causing a distraction from driving. There was a recall issued but it has expired even though the issue is still existent. Ford says they will not cover the cost of the repair because it is expired even though we received no notification of the recall.

The contact stated that a family member and an independent mechanic attempted to repair the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Intermittent brake issue, rock hard or down to the floor squish very soft and having to pump brakes, hissing noise. I am afraid there is going to be some kind of highway crash because of this problem and my warranty is not covering it because it's intermittent, but when it does happen it lasts days. I have a baby now and am afraid to drive my vehicle to far/fast. With all the comments I've been seeing it's the exact same issue, model and year. This NEEDS to be recalled before it turns into the Toyota problem years ago when the brakes completely failed.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and depressing with the accelerator pedal being depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as designed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to exit the highway and continued driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that both front axles, the exhaust pipe, and the fuel injector needed to be replaced. Additionally, there was a leak in the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). The vehicle was repaired, except for the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V438000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.

On 12/22/2021 I was going to an appointment, when i got the bottom of the driveway the brakes kept fading like I was loosing brake fluid, I drove to my mechanics it was diagnosed to be ABS hydraulic control module. My understand from trying to get a new part, there are several hundred people looking for the same part. There were no dash lights or warnings so it is hard to believe that there are not accidents by this issue. If this had occurred on the road there would have been no stopping in an emergency. My car is still sitting waiting for the part. Its here if you need to check it out. The part is very difficult to get to. Again no warning till i put my foot on the brake pedal

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Edge vehicles manufactured from September 2, 2010, through April 25, 2013, and equipped with 2.0L engines. The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 25, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 13S13. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 12V-438. All vehicles that have been remedied under the previous recall need to have the current remedy applied.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation on September 28, 2016 based on allegations that the door ajar light located on the instrument cluster stays on all of the time even when all doors are closed and fully latched on 2011-2013 model year Ford Edge vehicles.When the light is illuminated continuously, vehicle occupants cannot be certain if any of the doors are properly latched.Reported safety consequences as a result of this issue include doors opening while driving (because doors were initially not latched properly), doors cannot be locked while driving, and the interior dome lights staying on continuously. Ford data received from the Information Request letter corresponding to this investigation indicates the failures were caused by contamination of the electrical contacts on the switch located within each door latch that tells the vehicle if the door is open or closed.All four doors contain the same latch design and switch.According to Ford, the Body Control Module (BCM) monitors the position of the switch and continuously samples it to detect a state of change.After a closed door state is detected, a continuous wetting current designed to keep the electrical contacts clean is sent from the BCM to the switches as long as the BCM is active.Beginning with the 2011 model year Edge vehicles, a change in BCM strategy resulted in a reduction of the wetting current sent out to clean the switch contacts by more than 75%.Over time, this low level of current is not sufficient to keep the switch contacts clean and contamination build up causes them to fail as described above.During the course of this investigation, ODI has identified a total of 1,983 complaints related to the door ajar light.Of these complaints, 14 indicated that a door opened while driving.Twelve of the 14 door opening events were situations where an occupant of the vehicle (often a child) opened a passenger door because the doors were not locked.The remaining two complaints involved a door opening on its own because the driver was unaware that the door was unlatched.There were no accidents but one complainant reported that a shoulder injury was caused by the driver having to repeatedly slam the door in an effort to get the door ajar light to turn off.After reviewing all available data, an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety has not been identified.The door latches themselves continue to function properly, remaining securely latched until acted upon by a driver or passenger.Child safety locks on the rear doors continue to function properly and can be used to prevent the rear doors from opening via the inside door handles.Vehicle crashworthiness is not affected by the lock condition of the doors and all active safety systems continue to function normally even if the vehicle BCM believes one or more doors is open.In addition, no accidents or accident related injuries have been reported.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, the investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right to take future action if warranted by the circumstances.ODI numbers for the reports cited above are shown in the attached document.
