MY MOTORCYCLE HAS A PLASTIC GAS TANK WHICH HAS BEGUN TO EXPAND. THE OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS OF THE TANK HAVE INCREASED AND IT NOW PRESSES AGAINST THE IGNITION SWITCH. PREVIOUSLY IT OPENED AND CLOSED WITHOUT PROBLEMS, NOW I HAVE TO WEDGE IT AGAINST THE IGNITION SWITCH TO CLOSE IT. I HAVE NOT SIGNIFICANTLY MODIFIED MY MOTORCYCLE EXCEPT FOR AN AFTERMARKET EXHAUST AND SOME COSMETIC CHANGES. I HAVE MADE NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE FUEL TANK OR FUEL PUMP. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO WILL SUBMIT A CLAIM TO DUCATI NORTH AMERICA (THE IMPORTER/FACTORY) AND THEY WILL REPLACE THE TANK WITH ANOTHER PLASTIC ONE. WHICH I FEAR IT WILL DEFORM AS WELL. I AM VERY CONCERNED AS TO THE SAFETY OF THIS MOTORCYCLE NOW. IF THE TANK SWELLS ENOUGH, IT WILL SPLIT OPEN AND I AM CONCERNED THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE I AM RIDING. BTW, THIS IS A DUCATI MONSTER 695, THE FORM ONLY SHOWED A 696. *TR

After opening this PE, we met with subject owners, dealers, and Ducati North America personnel. We learned that the subject leakage is limited to the Multistrada line alone and is unrelated to composite fuel tank deformation.Rather it stems from the inability of the original sealing O-ring to conform to the tank's relatively rough sealing surface.Recall 11V-020 provides a new X section O-ring to address the Multistrada issue and with that recall, this PE is closed for the Multistrada.Meanwhile, unlike the Multistrada, the Monster line fails to exhibit a current safety defect trend and, on that basis, this PE is closed for those models as well.
