THIS HAPPENED TO ME LAST YEAR AROUND OCTOBER TO DECEMBER AND IT IS NOW HAPPENING AGAIN. I START MY CAR AND I WILL BE DRIVING. THE CAR WILL THEN STOP RUNNING WHILE I'M IN DRIVE, STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP BUT RADIO AND EVERYTHING WILL STILL BE ON. IT IS ALMOST LIKE MY CAR DIED. I AM THEN STUCK WHEREVER THE CAR BREAKS DOWN ON ME AT AND I WILL TRY AND START MY CAR. IT USUALLY TAKE 2 OR 3 TIMES BEFORE IT EVENTUALLY STARTS BACK UP. AND I ONLY HAVE TO TURN THE KEY OVER ONCE AND IT WILL KEEP TURNING OVER THE ENGINE UNTIL I TURN THE KEY TO TURN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF. IT ALSO SEEMS AS IF I HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT FOR THE CAR TO RUN FOR A MINUTE WHEN IT DOES START BACK UP BEFORE I CAN TAKE OFF AGAIN OR IT WILL JUST DIE ON ME AGAIN WHILE IM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON OR ANY OTHER LIGHT ON UNTIL IT SHUTDOWN ON ME. USUALLY ITS THE BATTERY LIGHT OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. BUT AS SOON AS IT STARTS UP AGAIN THEY ARE GONE. I KEEP UP TO DATE ON MY OIL CHANGES. I HAVE NO CLUE WHY IT DOES THIS. I ALSO RECENTLY CHANGED MY BATTERY. I ALSO HAD BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR TESTED AND THEY WERE GOOD. THERES TIMES I NOTICE MY CAR IDLING ON ITS OWN WHEN I START THE CAR AND WHEN I TAKE IT OUT OF PARK IT WANTS TO TAKE OFF ON ITS OWN. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME OR EVERYDAY. ITS SCARY WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN AS I COULD BE GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CAR RANDOMLY WANTS TO SHUT DOWN ON ME. IT FEELS UNSAFE.

I HAVE PAID MONEY AT BREWBAKER AND FIRESTONE IN MONTGOMERY AL. I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I START THE CAR UP. THE CAR BEEPS BEEPS WHEN IT IS PARKED AND THE DOORS LOCKED.

HAPPENED ON A BUSY CITY STREET AS WELL AS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL, AS THE SECOND OWNER I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED AND THE TIME OF THE WARRANTY EXPIRED ALTHOUGH I AM STILL UNDER THE MILEAGE BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME. I WOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WAS NOT JUST DRIVER ERROR WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED SUMMER OF 2019 IF I HAD BEEN PROPERLY NOTIFIED. INSTEAD IT WAS NOT UNTIL SEPT 27 2020 WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL STARTED STICKING THAT I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THE INFO OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN. 4 DEALERSHIPS HAD MY CAR MULTIPLE TIMES AND NONE OF THEM MENTIONED THIS EITHER.

Y CAR STALLED OUT TWICE IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS VERY DANGEROUS. BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, MUSIC CONTINUED, BUT ENGINGE JUST DIED. THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE (NO MORE POWER STEERING), AND I COULDN'T PRESS MY BRAKE DOWN, IT JUST SAT THERE IN THE ROAD. I CHECKED THE LEVEL OF MY OIL AND IT DOESN'T EVEN COVER THE CURVED PART OF THE DIPSTICK, THAT'S HOW LOW IT IS.THE CAR STALLED OUT AGAIN, A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE OIL CHANGE. THE CAR IS NOT INDICATING WHEN IT NEEDS OIL, AND IS SHUTTING ITSELF OFF SO IT DOESN'T OVER HEAT WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS 70MPH+ AND IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS WHILE TURNING.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
