STARTING AT AROUND 50,000 MILES MY VEHICLE HAS CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE OVER HEATING. I BOUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP IN AUGUST FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED SOME CLAMP AND SAID THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. IN SEPTEMBER THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING AGAIN. I NOTICED THE COOLANT WAS VERY LOW SO I FILLED IT AND THAT SEEMED TO WORK. THEN IN OCTOBER THE ENGINE TOO HOT LIGHT CAME ON, AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE SHOP. THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR CAP AND SAID THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THEN ONE WEEK LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON FOR A CYLINDER 2 MISS FIRE. I GET THAT REPAIRED AND THEN THE VERY SAME DAY THE ENGINE TOO HOT LIGHT COMES ON. REFILL THE COOLANT AGAIN. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A LEAK AND NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIND ANY INTERNAL PROBLEMS OR SIGNS OF INTERNAL LEAKING YET THE CAR JUST KEEPS OVER HEATING AND NOW ITS JUST A GUESSING GAME AS TO WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. EVERY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED IT HAS BEEN AT DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF MOVEMENT. THE FIRST TIME I WAS STATIONARY. THE SECOND TIME I WAS GOING SLOW. THE THIRD TIME WAS ON THE HIGHWAY.

MY GRAND MOTHER WAS DRIVING HER 2014 DODGE DART AND HER ELECTRONIC DASH CLUSTER QUIT WORKING WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING. THE DASH CLUSTER IN HER CAR IS THE SPEEDOMETER AND ALL NECESSARY GAUGES AND DISPLAYS. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I THINK THIS IS SIMILAR TO THE RECENT RECALL ON THE NEW DODGE'S THAT HAD A RECALL ON THE DASH CLUSTERS ALSO. THE DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THE DASH CLUSTERS WERE ON BACKORDER BECAUSE THEY ARE REPLACING THAT MANY OF THEM. MY GRANDMA WAS DRIVING IN TOWN LESS THAN 35 MPH ZONE. SHE SAID THAT THE DISPLAY WAS THERE THEN GONE. SHE WAS NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED. SHE WAS NOT SURE WHAT WAS WORKING OR NOT WORKING ON HER CAR SHE MADE IT HOME AND PARKED THE CAR.

I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN JULY OF 2014. IN MARCH OF 2017, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A TRIP OUT OF TOWN, WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST THE MEANS TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR WOULD ONLY REV, AND NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. I COASTED INTO A GAS STATION, WHERE I HAD TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TRANSPORT THE CAR TO THE DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER, RESERVOIR, AND CLUTCH KIT ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED, TO THE TUNE OF > $2000. I ESCALATED TO FCA UNDER THE X62 TSB, AND MY REPAIRS, AND A RENTAL WERE PROVIDED. NOW YESTERDAY, 9/9/19 AT 9:00AM, MY CLUTCH IS COMING DISENGAGED WHILE ACCELERATING, IN ALL 6 GEARS, 15-65 MPH AND I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON THE PREVIOUS REPAIR EXPIRED 4 MONTHS AGO. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WHICH FAILED PREVIOUSLY WERE REPLACED WITH ORIGINAL PARTS, WHICH WOULD LEAD TO ADDITIONAL FAILURE. IN DOING MY OWN RESEARCH, THE 2014 DODGE DART MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ARE EQUIPPED WITH A CLUTCH DELAY VALVE. THE INTENTION OF THE CDV IS TO HELP INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS, BUT IN REALITY IS MAKES LAUNCHING JERKY, QUICK SHIFTING DIFFICULT, AND PREMATURE CLUTCH WEAR A REAL POSSIBILITY.

MY VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 60-65 MILES PER HOUR, MY CLUTCH DROPPED TO THE FLOOR AND I STARTED SMELLING MY CLUTCH BURNING. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE CLUTCH BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY IN SIXTH GEAR ON THE HIGHWAY. MY ENGINE STARTED BOGGING DOWN AND LUCKILY I WAS NEAR AN OFF RAMP AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WASN'T ABLE TO SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR, MY ENGINE WOULDN'T EVEN STAY ON IT KEPT STALLING. ITS BEEN ALMOST THREE WEEKS NOW AND NO ONE IS GIVING MY ANY ANSWERS AS TO WHAT IS GOING ON, ALL I AM BEING TOLD IS THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO MY DRIVING. MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 43,000 MILES, NOTHING MORE AND MY CLUTCH IS NOW IN PIECES. SOME OF MY CLUTCH IS PERMANENTLY ON MY FLYWHEEL NOW. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOR OVER NINE YEARS AND HAD DRIVEN SEVERAL VEHICLES AND HAVE NEVER BURNT OUT MY CLUTCH. MY WARRANTY THROUGH CAR MAX WILL NOT COVER IT, NO ONE WANTS TO EVEN LOOK AT MY ISSUE BECAUSE ALL THEY HEAR IS CLUTCH FAILURE AND ITS AUTOMATICALLY MY FAULT.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
