I BOUGHT A USED 2014 DODGE DART ACT IN SEPTEMBER 2017, IN LATE DECEMBER EARLY JANUARY I BROUGHT CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT KEPT STALLING OUT. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT WAS BECAUSE THE OIL WAS LOW. FAST FORWARD TO MAY. I'M ON THE WAY TO THE STORE AND MY CAR STALLS OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING WITH MY 4YR DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. I GOT IT STARTED BACK UP AFTER A FEW MINS BUT IT STALLED OUT AFTER A MIN. THEN AGAIN LATER IN THE NIGHT 3 MORE TIMES IN LESS THEN A QUARTER MILE. THIS APPARENTLY IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AMONGST OTHER DADGE DART OWNERS. THIS PROBLEM COULD KILL PEOPLE AND DODGE IS DOING NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION.

I LOOKED ONLINE AND SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I CHECKED THE SYSTEM SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THAT VIN #. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO HAVE HAD TO COME OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED.

I BOUGHT MY 2014 DART BRAND NEW IN JANUARY OF 2015. AS OF TODAY (4/9/18), IT HAS 47,200 MILES ON IT. I WAS TAKING RESIDENTIAL ROADS TO DROP MY DAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL, SLOWING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND TURN RIGHT. I THOUGHT I SLOWED TOO MUCH AND NEEDED TO SLIGHTLY ACCELERATE TO GET ME TO THE STOP SIGN. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, I REALIZED THE CAR HAD STALLED, BUT ALL INSIDE LIGHTS AND RADIO WERE STILL ON. THE "BATTERY" LIGHT (CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT) CAME ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT ALL IT WOULD DO WAS TRY TO TURN OVER. I KNOW IT'S NOT THE BATTERY, AS IT WAS REPLACED LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. ALL TERMINALS/CONNECTIONS TO THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR ARE NOT LOOSE. AFTER TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR TWICE, IT FINALLY STARTED ON THE THIRD TRY WITH HESITATION. FROM THERE, I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO THE SCHOOL (LESS THAN A MILE - IT'S ONLY 1.3 MILES FROM MY HOUSE TO THE SCHOOL). WHEN I GOT BACK HOME, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR ROUGHLY 2-3 MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN - NO HESITATION. AFTER LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ONLINE, I'VE FOUND AT LEAST 34 IDENTICAL PROBLEMS WITH NO EXPLANATION AND NO HELP FROM DODGE/CHRYSLER. (EXCEPT FOR ONE OR TWO ENGINE REPLACEMENTS). (CARCOMPLAINTS.COM) I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR TO WORK, AS I DON'T WANT IT TO STALL ON THE HIGHWAY AND GET IN AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I HAVE TWO CHILDREN THAT ARE PICKED UP FROM MY WORK. THIS IS ONLY GOING TO CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT IF SOMETHING ISN'T DONE ABOUT THIS. WE'VE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR (RADIO FREEZES AND RESTARTS INTERMITTENTLY, TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT HARD, ETC.).

THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT AND THEY DID NOT INVESTIGATE FURTHER. NOW THE SMELL HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND IS MORE LIKE ANTIFREEZE AND MELTING PLASTIC. THE SMELL HAPPENS MOST NOTICEABLY AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND COMINGVTO A STOP. MY PASSENGERS ALL NOTICE IT. I RIDE WITH THE WINDOWS LOWERED SLIGHTLY TO BRING IN FRESH AIR. ALSO THE AIR CONDITIONING HAS BEEN TURNING ON ON ITS OWN, THE BACKUP CAMERA RECENTLY STAYED ON FOR ABOUT A HALF MILE AFTER I CHANGED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND BEGAN DRIVING. ALSO THEIR SEEMS TO BE AN OCCASIONAL DELAY IN ACCELLERATION WHIN SHIFTNG GEARS.

I'VE HAD TWO DIFFERENT AUTO MECHANICS CHECK MY CAR AND WAS TOLD THE SAME AS THE ABOVE. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME WHEN HE APPLIED A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL TO MY CAR, SEVERAL FACTORY CODES COME UP. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY CAR TO A DODGE DEALER SERVICE CENTER, WHICH I PLAN TO DO ON MONDAY 2//12/18. I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE MY NEIGHBOR'S FRIEND AND MY SISTER'S MALE FRIENDS GIRLFRIEND BOTH OWN DODGE DARTS AND ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. OUR CARS WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. MY BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON, HOWEVER WHEN TESTED, THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR INDICATES THEY ARE OKAY. AS I SAID ABOVE, I'VE HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR TESTED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. EACH TIME I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MY CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A STREET.

THE CAR WAS DYING AT LIGHTS, ONRAMPS, OFFRAMPS, JUST BASICALLY ANYTIME THE OIL SLOSHED AROUND ENOUGH TO LOSE OIL PRESSURE AND SHUT OFF. AFTER 4K MILES, 40% OIL LIFE LEFT ACCORDING TO THE MONITOR, THE OIL DOESN'T EVEN REGISTER ON THE DIPSTICK, HAD TO ADD 2-3 QUARTS. WENT TO DODGE DEALERSHIP, DEALT WITH CHRYSLER CASE #'S AND REPS, WAS PROMISED A FIX AND NEVER GOT IT. OH YEAH, THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO CHARGE ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. HAD TO ARGUE WITH CHYRSLER CORPORATE FOR WEEKS TO GET THEM TO PAY. IS IT BURNING? LEAKING? IT'S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR SURE. THE EPA WOULD HAVE A FIELD DAY. THEIR EMISSIONS ARE PROBABLY COMPLETELY OUT THE WINDOW IF THEY ARE BURNING THAT MUCH OIL, OR RELEASING IT INTO THE WILD 1 DROP AT A TIME. I'VE NEVER SEEN ANY ACCUMULATING OIL IN THE GARAGE OR MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK.I DON'T THINK THE EPA WOULD LIKE KNOWING BARRELS MORE OF OIL ARE BEING USED THAN ADVERTISED. ALSO, THE CAR HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH CARS COMING UP BEHIND ME. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN TO/FROM WORK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AND NEVER WITH MY KIDS AND FAMILY IN THE CAR. BUT YOU'D HAVE TO THINK THAT'S A HUGE LAWSUIT/TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN, AND YET CHRYSLER COMPLETELY SAYS THAT'S WITHIN REASONABLE SPEC. WHERE THE HELL WAS THIS "SPEC" WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR? THE NEW STICKER DIDN'T SAY "GREAT GAS MILEAGE, AWESOME NAV UNIT, BURNS 1QT OF OIL PER WEEK" ON THE WINDOW. 20 YEAR OLD CARS HAVE OIL LEVEL SENSORS, AND WARNINGS ABOUT THAT. WHY DOES THIS NEW AGE CAR, NOT HAVE AN OIL SENSOR ON IT TO AT LEAST WARN US OF IMPENDING DOOM WHEN THE CAR STALLS MAKING A SIMPLE TURN? THERE WAS A DEALERSHIP FRANCHISE CHAIN DOWN IN PHOENIX COMPLETELY REPLACING PEOPLE'S ENGINES FOR FREE WITH THE 2.4L TIGERSHARK (I THINK SOME JEEPS AND FIAT'S HAVE THEM AS WELL). I ALSO HEARD RUMORS THAT SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINES OF 30% OF 2.4L'S HAD THE PISTON RINGS IN BACKWARDS?

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
