I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT PART OF MY WARRANTY. THIS WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THIS WAS TO COME LOOSE UPON MY DAILY COMMUTE ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY IF MY VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. I AM THANKFUL THIS TIME I WAS IN PARK,

PURCHASED 2014 DODGE DART FROM SUBARU OF CHERRY HILL, NJ DEALERSHIP 5/2019 @ 44,000MI. USED. EXCELLENT CARFAX. SINCE OWNERSHIP, VEHICLE HAS STOPPED TWICE; ONCE WHILE SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, AND AGAIN WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. BATTERY LIGHT DID NOT COME ON EITHER TIME. 3RD TIME VEHICLE DIDN'T START AFTER BEING PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 HRS. NEEDED TO BE JUMPED. AFTER FIRST INCIDENT OF STOPPING, VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC; COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM. BATTERY CHECKED OUT AS OK. OIL CHANGE PERFORMED AT 47,351MI. ALSO, SINCE BEING PURCHASED, A SLIGHTLY SWEET SMELL COMES OUT OF FAN. DOES NOT GO AWAY. CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL STOP WHILE ON A HIGHWAY, CAUSING A MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH. THIS SEEMS VERY UNSAFE. UPON INVESTIGATION, NO RECALL WAS NOTED. DEALERSHIP CALLED TO DISCUSS FURTHER WITHOUT RESPONSE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. MANY OTHER DRIVERS SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WHEN SEARCHED ONLINE. PLEASE HELP! MOST RECENT EPISODE WAS 2/13/19.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY DODGE DART 2014 IN AUGUST OF 2018. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH AROUND 26,000 MILES ON IT. GREAT CONDITION, EXCELLENT MILEAGE, NO ACCIDENTS, AND ONLY ONE OWNER. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 5 MONTHS. I USE IT MAINLY AS A COMMUTER CAR. IT STARTED HAVING ISSUES ALMOST AS SOON AS WE GOT IT. THEY WERE FIRST MINOR THINGS. UNTIL NOVEMBER 2018. MY CARS BATTERY DIED AND REFUSED TO START. I HAD TO REPLACE OUT OF POCKET DUE TO IT NOT BEING COVERED BY WARRANTY. IT WAS HAVING ISSUES STARTING, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS DUE TO IT BEING COLD (BECAUSE IT WOULD BE FINE ONCE IT HEATED UP), SO AT FIRST THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. IT WOULD START UP AND I WOULD DRIVE IT LESS THEN A MILE, I WOULD START TO SLOW DOWN AND EVERYTHING WOULD SHUT OFF. THE HEATER AND THE LIGHTS WOULD STILL BE ON BUT IT WOULD LOOSE ACCELERATION AND THE BATTERY LIGHT WOULD COME ON. IT WILL DO THIS MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL THE CAR IS WARM(EVEN THEN IT WILL CONTINUE TO DO IT AFTERWARD). RPM DROPS TO ZERO, CHECK ENGINE, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, AND BATTERY LIGHT ALL COME ON. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO IT STOPPING IN TRAFFIC, ON THE HIGHWAY, AND IN INTERSECTIONS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ UP ON THIS ISSUE AND SEE THAT I LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 24% OIL LIFE, I WILL BE TESTING TO SEE IF THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED(TEMPORARILY) LIKE OTHERS HAVE BEEN. DUE TO FEAR OF IT NOT BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER. THEY QUOTED ME AT $400 DOLLARS FOR EVERYTHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE WRONG (BASED OFF THIS INFORMATION THEY HAVE AN IDEA OF ALREADY WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY STILL WANT ME TO COME IN AND TRY TO CHARGE ME FOR IT BECAUSE IT MOST LIKELY WON'T BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY.

MY VEHICLE IS NOT LISTED UNDER THE RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE FAILURE ALTHOUGH IT DID SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO BE INOPERABLE. IF THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL, IT CAN CAUSE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY BEING SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, AFTER THE SHIFTER WAS MOVED THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY MOVED INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITON AND WOULD NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN IN ORDER TO PARK IT. THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE WAS PULLED IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STATIONARY AND THE ENTIRE SIDE OF THE CAR WHERE THE ISSUE WAS HAD TO BE REMOVED, I.E THE BATTERY AND THE COMPARTMENT THAT HOLDS THE BATTERY IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE FAULTY PART AND TO BE ABLE TO REMOVE AND INSTALL A NEW PART. MY VEHICLE HOWEVER DID THIS BECAUSE OF A FAULTY SHIFT BUSHING PART THAT HAS WITHERED AWAY AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS. THE CABLE UNEXPECTEDLY RELEASED ITSELF FROM THE BUSHING.

OTHER TIMES I'VE PUT MY CAR ON CRUISE CONTROL AND IT'S TURNED OFF MINUTES AFTER BEING SET. WAS TOLD TO CHANGE THE OIL MORE OFTEN WHICH I DID AT MAXIMUM OF 3000 MILES, ON A 2014?! THIS TIME (ITS BEEN SEVERAL SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY) MY CAR TURNED OFF AND WOULDN'T TURN BACK ON, TRIED JUMP STARTING IT FOR ALMOST 3 HOURS AND IT DID NOTHING TO THE CAR, THE CAR DIDN'T BUDGE. THE DASHBOARD WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF AND ALL THE SWITCHES WOULD GO CRAZY INCLUDING MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS THAT WEREN'T EVENT ON IN THE FIRST PLACE. USED A CAR BATTERY CHARGER TO SEE IF IT HELPED AT ALL, 12 HOURS LATER STILL NOTHING. I HAVE A TWO YEAR OLD AND THIS CAR IS WAY TO DANGEROUS FOR ME TO FEEL SAFE IN!!

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
