I'M CONFUSED AS TO WHY I HAVE EVEN GOTTEN A RECALL NOTICE ON A PART DODGE CAN NOT FIX OR WHY THEY CANT AT LEAST GET MY CAR FIXED ENOUGH TO BE ON THE ROAD UNTIL THIS PART COMES IN. THIS WILL BE MY FIRST AND LAST DODGE AND I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AS WELL.

FOR OVER 2 YEARS MY DODGE DART 2014 BOUGHT BRAND NEW OFF A CAR LOT HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IT WOULD SHIFT INTO 1 ST GEAR AND READLINE THE RPM TACH METER AND WOULD NOT SHIFT BACK UP TO ITS PROPER GEAR. I HAVE TO RESET THE BATTERY AFTER DISCONNECTING IT FOR 15MINS AND THEN SOMETIMES IT WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 2 YEARS. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES ON. DODGE IS JUST NOW DOING RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS RELATED TO THE TRASMISSION BUSHING CABLE. JUST NOW AFTER ITS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER 2 YEARS THEY ARE TRYING TO OFFER RECALLS. I STILL HAVE YET TO BE NOTIFIED OFFICIALLY REGARDING THIS MATTER THRU THE MAIL OR A PHONE CALL, EMAIL EVEN. I HAD TO CALL CORPORATE TO ASK. CORPORATE TOLD ME SOMETHING WOULD COME IN THE MAIL NEAR THE END OF AUGUST. ITS THE END OF AUGUST NOW AND STILL NOTHING. THEN THEY SAID TO CONTACT LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIPS AND INQUIRE ABOUT PARTS IF THEY HAD ANY IN STOCK. THEY DIDN'T. I DON'T EVEN DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. DODGE NEEDS TO COMPENSATE ME BACK IN FULL AND BUY BACK THE CAR OR BE SUED AND SHUT DOWN AND NO LONGER ALLOWED TO MANUFACTURE THESE PIECES OF [XXX]. THIS IS INSANITY. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER AMERICAN BRAND CAR EVER AGAIN. ALSO THE GAS CAP FELL OFF THE CAR AND THE ELECTRONIC MOTOR IS STRIPPED OR DEFECTIVE. EVERY TIME I PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE DOOR TO OPEN THE GAS CAP TO REFILL IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF HOLDING DOWN THE BUTTON. DODGE SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THAT. THE FRONT WINDOWS ALSO FOG UP FOR NO REASON WHEN ITS COLDER. I'M TALKING ABOUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. SHODDY CRAFTSMENSHIP AND SHOULD BE SUED. TY FOR READING THIS. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW.IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THIS PAST WEEK THAT IT ALMOST LEFT ME STRANDED 40 MILES FROM HOME WHEN I HAD STOPPED FOR FUEL. I HAD PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WITH THE EMERGENCY BREAK ON, AND IT JUST WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR WHEN I TRIED TO LEAVE.AFTER COOLING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, I FINALLY MANAGED TO CATCH A GEAR AND GO. SOMETIMES, IT WILL SLIP OUT OF FIRST OR SECOND GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, WHILE IN MOTION. THIS MORNING MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO MOVE IT INTO THE GARAGE DUE TO A STORM APPROACHING AND HE COULD NOT GET IT INTO ANY GEAR AND THE CLUTCH STUCK TO THE FLOOR. WE HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE YESTERDAY, SO IT WASN'T EVEN WARM. MY HUSBAND AND I PUSHED IT INTO THE GARAGE.

WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS ABLE TO PUT INTO FIRST GEAR AND AFTER SECOND GEAR BEGAN TO REV UP AN NO ACCELERATION HAPPENED. WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO WORK AND TRIED TO TEST IT 'OUT AGAIN, BUT UNFORTUNATELY ITS STILL FAILING. MY VEHICLE IS UNDRIVABLE AND NOW NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS OF A RECALL THAT IS STILL "PENDING". MINE & MY CHILDREN'S SAFETY WAS ON THE LINE. WE WERE LUCKY IT WAS NOT RUSH HOUR. I HAVE ATTACHED THE LETTER I RECEIVED FROM THE FAC US LLC STATING THIS IS A DEFECTED VEHICLE. WHICH IS A LETTER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NTMVSA.

MY DODGE DART HAS AN ISSUE WHERE THE BATTERY LIGHT WILL TURN ON AND THEN THE CAR WILL TURN OFF WHILE IT IS IN USE. THIS ISSUE BEGAN AROUND 1 YEAR AGO AND HAS BEEN SPORADICALLY HAPPENING SINCE THEN. MY MECHANIC EXCHANGED MY BATTERY BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTED AND HE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A CAUSE. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE DARTS. WHEN THE OIL GETS LOW THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF WHEN IN USE WITHOUT AN INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWING THE OIL IS LOW AND DESPITE THE OIL LIFE PERCENTAGE NOT BEING CRITICALLY LOW (IT WAS 17% THE MOST RECENT TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME). THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAPPENS ABRUPTLY AND THE STEERING LOCKS UP WHILE THE CAR IS SHUTTING OFF.

I CALLED MY SIBLINGS TO ASSIST WITH GETTING THE CAR OUT OF REVERSE, THE HANDLE WOULD MOVE BUT THE GEARS WOULD NOT CHANGE. THE ONLY WAY WE COULD GET THE CAR TO STOP WAS WITH THE EMERGENCY BREAK. WE TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, BUT ALL LIGHTS STAYED ON AND WE COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE KEY OUT WAS TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER THE FOLLOWING DAY ON APRIL 18TH, AND THEY ADVISED OF A RECALL FOR SHIFT CABLE BUSHING. I ASKED HOW LONG THE PROCESS WOULD TAKE, THEY STATED THEY WOULD MAIL A LETTER TO ADVISE HOW TO SET UP APPOINTMENT, THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER PARTS. I CALLED BACK ON APRIL 25TH TO INQUIRE ONCE AGAIN ABOUT HOW LONG THE PROCESS USUALLY TAKES, AND THEY DID NOT ADVISE OF A TIME FRAME. I ADVISED THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT MY CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN AT ALL, AND ASKED IF I WERE TO GET A RENTAL CAR OR GET MY CAR FIXED MYSELF WOULD I BE REIMBURSED. THE REPRESENTATIVE ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE. I'VE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ONCE AGAIN ON MAY 8, 2019. REPRESENTATIVE ADVISED THAT THE PART HAS STILL NOT BEEN ORDERED AND THERE IS NO ESTIMATED TIME.

THE CAR STARTED RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF, AT A STOP OR WOULDN'T START ALL TOGETHER. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF RANDOM STALLING AND SHUT OFFS, I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC. HE SAID THAT IT HAS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT WHERE THE CAR THINKS IT HAS LOW OIL, IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO BE LOW. HAVE BEEN ADDING OIL AND CHECKING CONSISTENTLY FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND RECENTLY IT REFUSED TO TURN ON. GOT A JUMP AND THE CAR STARTED. HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHECKED AT AUTO PARTS STORE , CAR STARTED UP NO PROBLEM, AND BOTH WERE FINE, BATTERY FULLY CHARGED. NOT MORE THAN 10 MINUTES AFTER TESTING THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON. JUMPED IT AND IT STARTED, DROVE HOME. AGAIN, TRIED TO START IT A FEW HOURS LATER AND NOTHING, NEEDED ANOTHER JUMP. USED A SCANNER TO CHECK FOR COMPUTER ISSUES AND NOTHING CAME UP. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ABOUT 10 MILES, SHUT IT OFF AND AGAIN NEEDED A JUMP. THE CAR SEEMS TO JUST SHUT OFF OR NOT START FOR NO REAL REASON. ONE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE, THE OTHER HAD IT A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE BLAMING THE OIL ISSUE AND NOW THIS. NO RECALLS ON THIS CAR, ALREADY CHECKED THE VIN NUMBER. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS CAR AT THIS POINT WITHOUT SPENDING MORE ON IT THAN IT IS WORTH. 2014 DODGE DART, 98,000 MILES

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
