THE INTERIOR ELECTRICAL WAS STILL ON, BUT POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE GONE. THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS SHUT OFF, BUT I REMEMBER THE CABIN STILL HAD POWER BECAUSE I QUICKLY TURNED ON THE HAZARDS. I BELIEVE IT WAS A PLASTIC TURN-KEY, AND IT BEING REIGNITED, THAT ALLOWED ME TO REGAIN CONTROL. IT WAS A STEEP, WINDY ROAD. IT WAS ABOUT 10 AT NIGHT AND THERE WAS A LOT OF DARKNESS WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS.THERE WAS A BIG RIG IN THE NEXT LANE IN FRONT OF ME, AND HEAVY VEHICLES TO THE REAR. IT WAS DEFINITELY A CLOSE CALL.

JULY 14TH, 2014 I BOUGHT A DODGE DART VIN [XXX]. THE CAR WAS PROPERLY MAINTAINED. DID NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. WHILE DRIVING ON MAY 8TH, 2015. ON I-75 GOING ABOUT 70 MILES PER HOUR WITH THICK FLOW OF TRAFFIC. I HEARD AND FELT SOMETHING CRACK ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR, UNDER MY FEET. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY PULLED LEFT AND HIT A CONCRETE BARRIER WALL. THE CAR THEN BOUNCED OFF A TOYOTA PRIUS. I LANDED IN THE DITCH ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY MILE MARKER 299 IN PASCO COUNTY FLORIDA. MY FIRST COMPLAINT IS WHATEVER BROKE TO CAUSE THE ACCIDENT. WHICH I CANNOT BE SPECIFIC ABOUT BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS THE AXEL OR WHAT YET. TAKING NOTE THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. MY SECOND COMPLAINT IS THAT NOT ONE OF MY 6 "ADVANCED"SAFETY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED IN MY CAB AFTER HITTING TWO OBJECTS AT THAT SPEED. AS TO WHY I DO NOT KNOW WHAT BROKE YET. I CALLED FOR DODGES ROADSIDE SERVICE, I WAS PICKED UP AND RODE WITH MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DODGE DEALERSHIP. JIM BROWNE CITRUS CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, IN DADE CITY. THIS DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE A BODY SHOP. I WAS TOLD BY THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP MY CAR WOULD BE TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP THEY USED. AS MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE ACCIDENT REPORT REFLECTS MECHANICAL ERROR. AFTER THIS DAY I WOULD NOT SEE OR KNOW WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS FOR 46 DAYS WHEN THE TOWING COMPANY CALLED ME ABOUT STORAGE FEES FOR MY CAR THAT WE COULDN'T LOCATE. VIN INCORRECT INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).' *JB

NOISE PRODUCED WHEN STEERING, CAUSED BY A STRUT MOUNT THAT ISN'T PROPERLY SEALED AGAINST MOISTURE. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. A USER ON THE DODGE DART FORUMS FOUND A FIX, BUT THE ISSUE STILL REMAINS THAT THE STRUT CAP IS NOT PROPERLY SEALED, AND NO AMOUNT OF REPLACING IT WILL FIX THAT WITHOUT FIXING THE ISSUE. FOR DETAILS ON THE FIX: THE ISSUE IS THAT THE COWL PLASTIC GRILL DRIPS RIGHT INTO THE STRUT MOUNT, THERE IS A CAP THERE BUT IT IS NOT A WATER TIGHT SEALING CAP. THIS ALLOWS THE STRUT MOUNT CENTER, WHERE THE NUT IS, TO FLOOD AND CORRODE. THIS RUSTS THE STRUT MOUNT BEARINGS TOGETHER AND PREVENTS THEM FROM SPINNING FREELY THUS CAUSING THE RUBBER TO RUBBER CONTACT AND MOANING SOUND. IF THE MOUNTS ARE NOT TOO BADLY RUSTED YOU CAN DRY UP ALL THE WATER, APPLY A LIBERAL AMOUNT OF WD40, PB BLASTER OR WHATEVER YOU PREFER, LET IT SOAK AND THEN JUST TURN YOUR WHEEL FROM LOCK TO LOCK. CLEAN THE LITTLE CAP AND APPLY A SMALL BEAD OF SILICONE AROUND THE CAP, INSTALL IT AND LET IT DRY. THIS WILL CREATE A WATER TIGHT SEAL AND PREVENT THE STRUT MOUNT DAMAGE SO THERE NEEDS TO BE A NEW PART THAT ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE, AND A RECALL ON ALL OF THE OLD PARTS BECAUSE OTHERWISE THE STRUT MOUNTS WILL RUST AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. *TR

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
