FOR OVER 2 YEARS MY DODGE DART 2014 BOUGHT BRAND NEW OFF A CAR LOT HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IT WOULD SHIFT INTO 1 ST GEAR AND READLINE THE RPM TACH METER AND WOULD NOT SHIFT BACK UP TO ITS PROPER GEAR. I HAVE TO RESET THE BATTERY AFTER DISCONNECTING IT FOR 15MINS AND THEN SOMETIMES IT WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 2 YEARS. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES ON. DODGE IS JUST NOW DOING RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS RELATED TO THE TRASMISSION BUSHING CABLE. JUST NOW AFTER ITS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER 2 YEARS THEY ARE TRYING TO OFFER RECALLS. I STILL HAVE YET TO BE NOTIFIED OFFICIALLY REGARDING THIS MATTER THRU THE MAIL OR A PHONE CALL, EMAIL EVEN. I HAD TO CALL CORPORATE TO ASK. CORPORATE TOLD ME SOMETHING WOULD COME IN THE MAIL NEAR THE END OF AUGUST. ITS THE END OF AUGUST NOW AND STILL NOTHING. THEN THEY SAID TO CONTACT LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIPS AND INQUIRE ABOUT PARTS IF THEY HAD ANY IN STOCK. THEY DIDN'T. I DON'T EVEN DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. DODGE NEEDS TO COMPENSATE ME BACK IN FULL AND BUY BACK THE CAR OR BE SUED AND SHUT DOWN AND NO LONGER ALLOWED TO MANUFACTURE THESE PIECES OF [XXX]. THIS IS INSANITY. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER AMERICAN BRAND CAR EVER AGAIN. ALSO THE GAS CAP FELL OFF THE CAR AND THE ELECTRONIC MOTOR IS STRIPPED OR DEFECTIVE. EVERY TIME I PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE DOOR TO OPEN THE GAS CAP TO REFILL IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF HOLDING DOWN THE BUTTON. DODGE SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THAT. THE FRONT WINDOWS ALSO FOG UP FOR NO REASON WHEN ITS COLDER. I'M TALKING ABOUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. SHODDY CRAFTSMENSHIP AND SHOULD BE SUED. TY FOR READING THIS. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

IT STARTED BACK IN APRIL. MY CAR WOULDN'T GO INTO REVERSE. IT STARTED FLASHING THE R ON THE DASH THEN NEXT TO THE GEAR SHIFT. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP. IT THEN STARTED NOT GOING INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. NOT ONLY WOULD THE LIGHTS FLASH AT ME BUT IT WOULD SAY PLACE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL THEN DRIVE OR REVERSE. IT ENDED UP TOWED ONCE BECAUSE T WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT POPPED UP. IT SAID ALL MY GEARS WERE NOT FOUND. IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP 7 TIMES FOR THIS SAME REASON. IT WON'T REVERSE AND/OR WON'T GO INTO DRIVE. THE GEAR SHIFT ALSO POPPED INTO PARK GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. MOST RECENTLY I HAD A COLLISION WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE IN REVERSE AND ENDED UP GOING FORWARD AND HITTING A PARKED VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS STILL NOT FIXED AND I OWE MONEY ON IT. MY BRAKES HAVEN'T BEEN WORKING CORRECTLY AND I KNOW THEY ARE STILL GOOD BECAUSE MY MECHANIC DAD AND BOYFRIEND HAVE CHECKED THEM. THE CRUISE WILL GO OFF RANDOMLY AND THE TOUCH SCREEN GOES WHITE, BLACK AND BACK ON. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL WITH NO REMEDY. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE THIS IS THE CAUSE. ALSO, I AM HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING THE IGNITION TO RELEASE MY KEY. DODGE HIRED AN INVESTIGATOR. IT TOOK MY CAR BEING HIT BEFORE THEY DECIDED TO TAKE ACTION. I FEEL LIKE I'M DRIVING A DEATH TRAP THAT I CAN'T GET OUT OF AND USUALLY HAVE ONE TO 3 KIDS IN MY CAR. I'D RATHER NOT HAVE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE THIS CAR IS A PIECE OF (XXX).

I PULLED UP INTO MY DRIVEWAY, I STARTED TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK, AND IT WOULD NOT GO IN TO PARK. IT FELT LIKE THE ENTIRE SHIFTER WAS BROKEN OR LOOSE, AS IT WOULD FREELY MOVE UP AND DOWN WITHOUT ACTIVELY PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, NEUTRAL, REVERSE OR DRIVE. I COULD NOT PULL MY KEY OUT, I HAD NO OTHER OPTION, BUT TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND UNPLUG MY BATTERY. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE FOB, SO THAT I DIDN'T HAVE TO LEAVE MY KEYS IN THE CAR. THIS WAS IN MID TO LATE APRIL. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF I COULD TROUBLESHOOT AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS MISSING FROM MY CAR. I OBSERVED THE SHIFTER CABLE WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED, AND THAT IS WHY THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED INTO ANY GEARS. IT IS NOW JULY 18TH, AND I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE MY VEHICLE. NO ONE CAN FIX IT, DUE TO THE PART NOT BEING AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER IS V34, AND THE NHTSA RECALL NUMBER IS 19V-293. THE RECALL STARTED APRIL 11TH 2019 AND I HAVE YET TO SEE ANYTHING FROM DODGE. I HAVE BEEN PUT ON A LIST TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN A PART IS AVAILABLE, BUT NOW I AM GETTING UPSET BECAUSE I CAN NO LONGER SUSTAIN NOT HAVING A WORKING CAR, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT I PAY FOR EVERY MONTH.

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW.IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THIS PAST WEEK THAT IT ALMOST LEFT ME STRANDED 40 MILES FROM HOME WHEN I HAD STOPPED FOR FUEL. I HAD PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WITH THE EMERGENCY BREAK ON, AND IT JUST WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR WHEN I TRIED TO LEAVE.AFTER COOLING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, I FINALLY MANAGED TO CATCH A GEAR AND GO. SOMETIMES, IT WILL SLIP OUT OF FIRST OR SECOND GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, WHILE IN MOTION. THIS MORNING MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO MOVE IT INTO THE GARAGE DUE TO A STORM APPROACHING AND HE COULD NOT GET IT INTO ANY GEAR AND THE CLUTCH STUCK TO THE FLOOR. WE HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE YESTERDAY, SO IT WASN'T EVEN WARM. MY HUSBAND AND I PUSHED IT INTO THE GARAGE.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
