MULTIPLE INQUIRIES WITH CHRYSLER CORPORATE AND DEALERSHIPS RESULTED IN THEM TELLING ME THE CAR IS ENGINEERED TO ALLOW 1QT OF OIL BURNED EVERY 750 MILES, PER SPEC SHEET I HAD TO FIRMLY DEMAND TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT. WAS BASICALLY TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM THAT MY CAR DIES IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH MY FAMILY IN IT, THEREBY THE POTENTIAL FOR A MAJOR CATASTROPHIC DEADLY SITUATION IS THERE. CHYRSLER CORPORATE CASES WERE CLOSED WITH NO RESOLUTION AND THEY NEARLY MADE ME PAY FOR THE INQUIRY. THIS IS ALL APPARENTLY HIDDEN IN THE CHRYSLER TSB - 09-001-12. MY CAR HAD 25,000 MILES AND WAS NEEDING ABOUT 7-8 QUARTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES ACCORDING TO THE CAR'S BUILT IN OIL LIFE METER WHICH IS INTENDED TO BE USED.

AFTER 3 TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A FEW TEST THEY DETERMINE THAT DUE TO LOW OIL CONSUMPTION THE CAR HAS A SENSOR THAT SHUTS OFF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING. DURING ONE OF THESE INCIDENTS MY VEHICLE TURNED OFF AS I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION IN WHICH THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK WHICH LEAD ME TO SLOWLY ROLL INTO THE INTERSECTION ON A RED LIGHT. LUCKILY IT WAS MORNING RUSH HOUR SO NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT ALSO FOR OTHERS

ISSUE BEGAN TO OCCUR WHERE CAR WILL LOSE ACCELERATION AND MUST BE TURNED OFF IN ORDER TO WORK AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT SIX TIMES NOW WHERE THE CAR MUST BE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (IF POSSIBLE) AND RESTARTED. DURING RESTART, THE ENGINE HESITATES/SPUTTERS FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS BEFORE RETURNING TO SEEMINGLY NORMAL OPERATION. AT NO OTHER TIME DOES THE CAR ACT LIKE THIS. NORMALLY IT WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS STARTING UP. JUST LAST NIGHT, I WENT TO LEAVE AND WAS UNABLE TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK. AFTER A QUICK SEARCH I FOUND THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE A LOOSE OR BAD SHIFTING CABLE. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE REOCCURRING IN THESE CARS. MY 14 GT HAS 64K MILES AND HAS ALWAYS RECIEVED ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY DODGE DART 2014 IN AUGUST OF 2018. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH AROUND 26,000 MILES ON IT. GREAT CONDITION, EXCELLENT MILEAGE, NO ACCIDENTS, AND ONLY ONE OWNER. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 5 MONTHS. I USE IT MAINLY AS A COMMUTER CAR. IT STARTED HAVING ISSUES ALMOST AS SOON AS WE GOT IT. THEY WERE FIRST MINOR THINGS. UNTIL NOVEMBER 2018. MY CARS BATTERY DIED AND REFUSED TO START. I HAD TO REPLACE OUT OF POCKET DUE TO IT NOT BEING COVERED BY WARRANTY. IT WAS HAVING ISSUES STARTING, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS DUE TO IT BEING COLD (BECAUSE IT WOULD BE FINE ONCE IT HEATED UP), SO AT FIRST THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. IT WOULD START UP AND I WOULD DRIVE IT LESS THEN A MILE, I WOULD START TO SLOW DOWN AND EVERYTHING WOULD SHUT OFF. THE HEATER AND THE LIGHTS WOULD STILL BE ON BUT IT WOULD LOOSE ACCELERATION AND THE BATTERY LIGHT WOULD COME ON. IT WILL DO THIS MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL THE CAR IS WARM(EVEN THEN IT WILL CONTINUE TO DO IT AFTERWARD). RPM DROPS TO ZERO, CHECK ENGINE, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, AND BATTERY LIGHT ALL COME ON. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO IT STOPPING IN TRAFFIC, ON THE HIGHWAY, AND IN INTERSECTIONS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ UP ON THIS ISSUE AND SEE THAT I LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 24% OIL LIFE, I WILL BE TESTING TO SEE IF THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED(TEMPORARILY) LIKE OTHERS HAVE BEEN. DUE TO FEAR OF IT NOT BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER. THEY QUOTED ME AT $400 DOLLARS FOR EVERYTHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE WRONG (BASED OFF THIS INFORMATION THEY HAVE AN IDEA OF ALREADY WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY STILL WANT ME TO COME IN AND TRY TO CHARGE ME FOR IT BECAUSE IT MOST LIKELY WON'T BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE. IT'S GIVEN ME PROBLEMS SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT IT. THE FIRST TIME I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE WAS A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED IT FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS DRIVING IT, AND IT SUDDENLY TURNED OFF AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON. NOW IT DOES IT FREQUENTLY. THE LAST TIME WAS LITERALLY THIS 3RD OF OCTOBER. THE DEALERSHIP MECHANICS SUPPOSEDLY SAID IT HAPPENS BECAUSE THE OIL IS LOW ON THE CAR, THAT THE CAR'S SYSTEM SHUTS OFF TO PROTECT THE VEHICLE FROM DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR, DUE TO LOW OIL. IT SEEMS RIDICULOUS THAT CHRYSLER IS WILLING TO RISK THEIR BUYERS WITH SUCH A FAULT SYSTEMS. ALL THE DEALER SAID WAS THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. HOWEVER, WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME IT HAS BEEN WHEN THE OIL LIFE IS AT NO LESS THAN 58%. IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I CAN CRASH AT ANY MOMENT. AND THE MOTOR JUST BURNS THROUGH OIL LIKE CRAZY. MY MECHANIC CHECKED IT AFTER MAYBE THREE WEEKS OF AN OIL CHANGE AND IT WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL ALREADY. IT SEEMS LIKE

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
