SUDDEN STALLING AT ANY SPEED, BEEN TO TOWBIN DODGE IN HENDERSON NEVADA, THEY SAY THEY ALL DO THAT WHEN IT NEEDS AN OIL CHANGE, SO I ASKED THEM, THERE IS ONLY 500 MILES SINCE U GUYS JUST CHANGED IT, THEY HOOKED UP A SCANNER AND SAID NO CODES CARS FINE. I SAID IT SHUTS OFF FOR NO REASON, THE STEERING GETS SUPER STIFF WHEN THE CAR DIES, AND IT'S A PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM, THEN IT MAKES A FUNNY NOISE, AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS IT WILL START UP AND BE FINE FOR A WEEK OR SO, SOMETIMES IT STALKS 2 TO 3 TIMES IN A MILE. I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT THE DODGE DART WITH THEV2.4 LTR ENGINE STALLS FOR NO REASON, THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER STILL INSISTS IT'S AN OIL CHANGE TIMER IN THE COMPUTER THAT GETS YOU TO CHANGE THE OIL. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THAT REASONING TO STALL THE CAR OUT ON THE FREEWAY OR INTERSECTION BECAUSE IT NEEDS AN OIL CHANGE.

ISSUE #1: BRAKES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP (WHETHER IT BE A RED LIGHT, A STOP SIGN, OR A SUDDEN STOP DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY) THE BRAKES FAIL TO FULLY GRASP MAKING ME SUSCEPTIBLE TO RAMMING THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME FROM BEHIND. ISSUE #2: ENGINE? ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE CAR HAS SUDDENLY JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS NO PRIOR WARNING TO THIS OCCURRING. ENGINE JUST COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND THAT LEADS ME TO SUDDEN MISSES IN BEING HIT FROM BOTH INCOMING TRAFFIC AND TRAFFIC FROM BEHIND. BATTERY IS BRAND NEW SO THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN AUGUST 2018, THE PAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS NOVEMBER 2018.

ABOUT TWO TO THREE WEEKS AGO MY BREAKS COMPLETELY WENT OUT. I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY FOOT WAS TO THE GROUND AND MY CAR WAS BARELY STOPPING. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME MY BREAK LINE SNAPPED AND THE FLUID CONTAMINATED MY BREAKS. NEEDED TO REPLACE EVERYTHING ON THE FRONT END (BREAKS, PADS, BREAK LINE, ETC.) FAST FORWARD TO ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGOI'M BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ONTO A MAIN, SUPER BUSY ROAD, I SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND MY CAR DIES. I PRESS THE GAS AND MY CAR WON'T MOVE. I HAD TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TO GET IT TO START UP. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE DAYS LATER AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY OWN DRIVEWAY. BACKED OUT PERFECTLY FINE, PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND IT DIES. WON'T MOVE WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE GAS. TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT DRIVES AGAIN. FINALLY, TODAY (AUGUST 23) I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND PUT IT IN DRIVE. NOTHING BAD HAPPENED THEN, BUT AS I WAS COMING UP TO A LIGHT AND SLOWING DOWN TO TURN, MY CARS BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND IT WON'T GO FASTER WHEN I HIT THE GAS. I PULL INTO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP THAT WAS THERE (THANKFULLY) STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT THIS TIME, IT WOULDN'T START. I GAVE THE GUYS AT THE SHOP MY KEYS AND INFO AND JUST GOT A CALL THAT MY CAR HAD NO OIL AND THEY THINK IT SHUT DOWN TO A SAFETY FEATURE. BUT MY CAR WAS TELLING ME I STILL HAD A 23% OIL LIFE. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR ANYMORE, ESPECIALLY SINCE I USE IT TO DELIVER IN AND I COMMUTE TO SCHOOL. I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE NEXT TIME IT'S GOING TO STALL OUT. AND I DON'T WANT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M ON THE CLOCK AT WORK.

I LOVE MY CAR. I DO NOT LOVE HAVING TO DUMP A QUART OF OIL IN IT EVERY 1,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR IT SHUT OFF. EVERYTHING SHUT OFF! I MANAGED TO GET IT RESTARTED AND MAKE IT BACK TO MY JOB BUT THEN HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED BECAUSE IT SHUT OFF AGAIN AND WOULDN'T RESTART. AT THE TIME I HAD NO CLUE ABOUT THE OIL ISSUE AS I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 2014. IT IS COSTING ME QUITE A BIT TO KEEP OIL IN IT. THE MANUFACTURER FLAW IS THAT THEY USED ALUMINUM PISTON WHICH BURN THROUGH THE OIL. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND MAY END IN DEATH FOR SOME UNSUSPECTING CONSUMER. ALSO, AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN THE CAR SHIFTS OUT OF DRIVE AS SOON AS YOU RELEASE THE BREAK AND PRESS ON THE GAS. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT AS IT WILL MOVE SLIGHTLY IN TO THE INTERSECTION AND THEN ACTS LIKE IT ISN'T GOING TO GO ANYWHERE WHEN IT ALL OF A SUDDEN JUMPS BACK INTO DRIVE. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND I AM UNSURE WHY THIS ISSUE AND THE OTHER ISSUES WITH THE 2014 DART ARE NOT BEING INVESTIGATED AND NO RECALLS ARE BEING ISSUED FOR THIS VIN #. OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE ISSUES. SINCE THE ISSUES CAN END IN FATALITIES IT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT A LOT CLOSER THAN IT IS. THESE ISSUES ARE CONTINUAL, THERE ISN'T JUST ONE DATE FOR THEM.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
