TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHRYSLER 200 CONVERTIBLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VENT CONTROL FUNCTION FAILED TO WORK ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FOR WARM AIR WHEN THE HEATING OPTION WAS UTILIZED. THE FAILURE CAUSED DIFFICULTY DEFROSTING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND FLUSHED THE SYSTEM MORE THAN TWO YEARS AGO, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER (BILL MARSH CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM, 1655 S GARFIELD AVE, TRAVERSE CITY, MI 49686, (231) 941-4141) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO THE DEALER TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND HAD THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

WHILE TRAVELING ON A NEW YORK STATE HIGHWAY, ALL OF THE SUDDEN ALL THE DASH WARNING INDICATORS FLASHED ON/OFF, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO LOW GEAR, THE RADIO, AC AND OTHER ELECTRONICS TURNED OFF. THE CAR STALLED RIGHT THERE IN TRAFFIC. WE HAD TRIED SHIFTING GEARS, PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR, AND COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO RESPOND TO ANYTHING. WE DID MANAGE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A MINUTE, WE ATTEMPTED AND WERE ABLE TO START THE CAR BUT IT STALLED OUT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. FURTHER ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE CAR WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES, WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, AND DRIVE IT TO A GARAGE LESS THAN 1 MILE AWAY. IT DID STALL ON US AGAIN, BUT IN THE DRIVEWAY OF THE GARAGE. THE MECHANIC AT THE GARAGE TESTED THE BATTERY, AND THE BATTERY WAS FINE ? WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE GARAGE LUCKILY BECAUSE THE BATTERY CHARGE HAD THE POWER TO GET US THERE. HOWEVER, ONCE WE GOT THE CAR RUNNING, IDLING, AGAIN; A VOLT-METER SHOWED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY. IT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING; BUT WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR. THE NEW ALTERNATOR IS PART # RL801624AD. WE HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND CHRYSLER RECALL P60. THIS RECALL AFFECTS VEHICLES WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR. WHILE MY 200 MODEL IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. MY CAR HAS THE SAME 3.6L ENGINE AND 160 AMP ALTERNATOR AS THE OTHER MODELS AFFECTED. IN READING THE DESCRIPTION(S) OF THE RECALL AND THE FAILURE I BELIEVE I EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS SAME FAILURE HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN THE OTHER DAY, AFTER I HAVE REPLACED THE ORIGINAL ALTERNATOR. I GOT IN MY VEHICLE TO DRIVE HOME, STARTED THE CAR, PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND JUST AS I GOT ONTO THE ROAD (BUSY, CITY STREET) MY CAR STALLED WITH ALL THE SAME SYMPTOMS ? FLASH OF THE WARNING INDICATORS, LOSS OF ALL POWER. *TR

UPON PICKING MY 2011 CHRYSLER 200 LIMITED CONVERTIBLE UP FROM THE DEALER AFTER IT WAS THERE FOR A FEW DAYS FOR A RECALL FOR THE HEAD RESTRAINT (N38) AND HAD AN ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD REPLACED I NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEATED SEAT LIGHT WAS OFF. SO FAR THE HEATED SEAT ITSELF SEEMS TO BE WORKING OK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP (DANBURY, CT) AND LET THEM KNOW OF THE ISSUE, THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME EVEN THOUGH TO ME AND TO ANY LOGICAL PERSON THIS IS A DIRECT RESULT OF WORK THEY DID TO MY CHRYSLER, AND MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED TO SOME SORT OF OTHER PROBLEM. FOR IT TO HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING COMPUTER UPDATES, ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENTS AND OTHER WORK THEY DID IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. I AM UNEMPLOYED AND IN GRAD. SCHOOL AND CANNOT, NOR SHOULD NOT, PAY FOR ADDITIONAL WORK DONE TO THIS LEMON OF A CAR. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE REGARDING THE HEATED SEAT LIGHT. AND TO ALL PROSPECTIVE CHRYSLER BUYERS - RUN. *TR

PE12016 · Engine Stall

During PE12-016, Chrysler identified a condition in model year (MY) 2011 Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger vehicles equipped with 3.6L engines that may result in engine stall when stopped or travelling at very low speeds.According to Chrysler, this condition occurs when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) initiates a purge monitor check while the engine is at idle which can result in an overly rich vapor condition and cause the engine to stall while stopped.Chrysler developed a software countermeasure to address the condition and has initiated a customer satisfaction campaign to reprogram the PCM on all affected vehicles. The bulletin was sent to dealers on September 28, 2012 and the owner letter mailing began on October 5, 2012.See the investigative file for copies of Chrysler's bulletin and owner letter. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaints related to engine stall that were provided by Chrysler or submitted to ODI from consumers. The predominant failure mode identified involved stalling when stopped or travelling at low speeds. The complaint counts shown in this resume include incidents in which enough detail was available to verify the symptoms were related to the defect condition identified by Chrysler. Two complaints alleged engine stall resulting in collisions, one involving very minor damage and one involving a single vehicle road departure crash in which the vehicle was totalled. In the first incident, the vehicle stalled while stopped at an intersection and rolled back into a following vehicle resulting in a minor scratch in the rear bumper. In the second incident, the vehicle was totalled from damage sustained from striking a tree after failing to negotiate a sharp turn in wet road conditions. The police report does not include any references to stalling as a cause or contributor, but cites excessive speed entering the turn.Although there was evidence or prior history with stalling when stopped, there is no evidence that engine stall was a factor in the crash. The condition that is causing the majority of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles occurs at a stop or very low speed and allows the vehicle to be restarted immediately. The condition represents a low risk to motor vehicle safety and is adequately addressed by Chrysler's service campaign. This preliminary evaluation is closed. The ODI reports cited above can be viewed at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers (ODI Nos.):10458865, 10458713, 10456385, 10456270, 10452622, 10452327, 10451870, 10451243, 10450745, 10450609, 10449370, 10448136, 10446374, 10443383, 10428753, 10463086, 10463085, 10462966, 10462908, 10462901, 10462851, 10462772, 10462720, 10462702, 10462691.
