THEN I LOST POWER AND WENT DRASTICALLY FROM 65 MPH DOWN TO ABOUT 40 MPH. I ALMOST GOT RAN OVER BY A SEMI TRUCK!! I PULLED VEHICLE TO THE SIDE AND SLOWLY MADE MY WAY TO THE NEAREST EXIT. ONCE I GOT OFF THE HWY I TRIED TO MAKE MY WAY BACK HOME, BUT THE POWER WAS REDUCED TO A CRAWL, SO I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND ENDED UP HAVING TO GET IT TOWED TO THE SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR AND FOUND NO MECHANICAL ISSUES, ONLY WHAT SEEMED TO BE A "GLITCH" IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. SUGGESTED THAT I MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I PICKED UP MY CAR AND IT DROVE FINE FOR 5 DAYS THEN IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN, LUCKILY I WAS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. DROVE IT HOME AND PARKED IT. THE NEXT MORNING IT DROVE JUST FINE, NO ISSUES, AND TODAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE SPENT THE LAST FEW HOURS READING HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME SCENARIO, AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE TAKING THEIR VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AND GETTING PARTS REPLACED ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN AND THEN MORE PARTS REPLACED AND IT CONTINUES IN THIS CYCLE... THIS FROM ONLY ONE FORUM AND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF OTHERS A LIKE! *TR

I CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME AND I HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD INTO LOOSE GRAVEL AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO HANK GRAFF CHEVROLET WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY HAD WENT OUT ALONG WITH THE RACK AND PINION. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $2500.00. I CALLED THE DETROIT ZONE OFFICE AND [XXX] TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EXCEPT FOR THE ALIGNMENT. I THEN RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE WRITER A FEW DAYS LATER AND WAS TOLD THAT GM WOULD NOT COVER IT. I TALKED TO THE ZONE OFFICE AGAIN AND ASKED WHY WOULDN'T THIS BE COVERED, IT IS A SAFETY ITEM AND OTHER TRAVERSES HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS TOLD SORRY MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY. I FEEL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AS IT CAN CAUSE SOME MAJOR ACCIDENTS OR EVEN DEATHS IF THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. MY CAR HAS ONLY 69000 MILES ON IT, WHY WOULD THESE PARTS FAIL AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY PREVIOUS REPAIRS DONE ON THIS VEHICLE. THANK YOU INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

IT RAN FINE FOR A FEW WEEKS THEN AS I WAS ON THE FREEWAY THE SAME MESSAGES APPEARED AND AS I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE UP A SLIGHT INCLINE, THE CAR'S SPEED WAS DECREASING EVEN THOUGH I WAS PUSHING ON THE GAS. LUCKILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AS I COULD NOT INCREASE SPEED. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAYS I NEED THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AND IT WILL COST $600. AFTER LOOKING AT THIS SITE, I SEE THERE ARE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. I WAS HORRIFIED AND PRAYED AND THANKED GOD THAT WE WERE NOT KILLED. I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. WE HAD TO WAIT ON THE HIGHWAY FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TOW US THROUGH THE FORT MCHENRY TUNNEL TO SAFETY. THIS APPARENTLY IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WHY HAVEN'T A RECALL BEEN ISSUED. THE NEXT DAY IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN AND NOW SHUTTING IT DOWN AND RESTARTING IT MAY OR MAY NOT FIX IT. TAKING IT TO THE SHOP TODAY BUT SEE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS TO RE-OCCUR FREQUENTLY. DEFINITELY SEEMS LIKE A RECALL ITEM AS IT CAN CREATE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN THE POWER IS AUTOMATICALLY REDUCED. ESPECIALLY ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. *TR

IT HAS TO DO WITH POWER TO THE ENGINE BEING REDUCED. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES. EACH TIME, I RECEIVED THREE ERROR MESSAGES ("TRACTION CONTROL OFF", "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL", "SERVICE STABILITRAK"), EACH TIME POWER REDUCED TO MY ENGINE, AND EACH TIME I PAID SUBSTANTIAL SUMS TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT EACH TIME IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME I PAID DEALER #1 ABOUT $150 (IF I RECALL CORRECTLY) TO HAVE THEM CLEAN CARBON FROM A SENSOR ON THE THROTTLE BODY (WHICH, COINCIDENTALLY, I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY "CARBON", ACCORDING TO THE DEALER #1). THE SECOND TIME, SAME THING, BUT PAID ONLY ABOUT $45 (TO DEALER #2 BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF TOWN). THE THIRD TIME, I PAID $600 FOR A COMPLETELY NEW THROTTLE BODY, INCLUDING ALL OF SUCH SENSORS, FROM DEALER #1. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT IT IS ANY SAFER NOW THAN IT WAS BEFORE, SINCE THE TRACK RECORD IS SO POOR (NEITHER OF THE PRIOR FIXES SOLVED THE PROBLEM). TWO OF THE THREE TIMES (TIME #1 IN JANUARY 2014, AND JUST NOW FOR #3 IN JANUARY 2015), I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, AND FORTUNATELY THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE ABLE TO SWERVE AND AVOID REAR-ENDING ME AT THE LAST MINUTE. *TR

RQ19003 · Seat Belt Anchor Cable Failure
Opened May 28, 2019 · Closed Aug 31, 2020
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts:front; Seat Belts:front:anchorage; Seat Belts:pretensioner
On May 19, 2014, General Motors LLC (GM) notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) that it would conduct Safety Recall 14V266 to address fatigue and separation of the flexible steel cable that connects the front outboard seat belts to the seat-mounted belt pre-tensioner in 1.4 million model year (MY) 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook, 2009-2014 Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse (Lambda Platform) vehicles. The remedy was to inspect for signs of damage and replace pre-tensioner anchor cables as needed. Re-work was conducted to relocate the pre-tensioner anchor cable out of the occupant entry path. ODI has subsequently received four (4) Vehicle Owners Questionnaires (VOQ) reporting anchor cable separations with no apparent warning in covered vehicles after the Recall 14V266 remedy had been applied.ODI opened RQ19-003 to assess the effectiveness of the actions GM took in Recall 14V266 and review the full warranty and complaint data related to seat belt anchor cable separations and replacements. ODI continues to receive occasional cable failure complaints both for the subject vehicles and other GM models and model years that have also been previously recalled addressing this condition.Although the cable separation complaint rate is very low, over the past three years ODI has received two (2) additional VOQ?s citing belt cable separations for Lambda platform vehicles outside the scope of recall 14V266, (11217092, 11118075) and complaints for other GM models covered in a number of similar Safety Recalls:* 15V269, 2011-12 Chevrolet Malibu (11181115, 11288168); * 16V209, 2014-15 Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500 (11254364, 10935183, 10953851, 11025376, 11282043, 11288701, 11309884); and * 16V518 2014-16 Caprice Police Pursuit, SS (10905644, 10990669, 11340893).ODI's review of GM's data confirms the low potential failure rate for the vehicles covered by recall 14V266. However, ODI believes that complainants may not recognize accumulating cable fatigue damage from the visual cues available in routine vehicle use.ODI is upgrading RQ19-003 to an Engineering Analysis to more closely assess seat belt conditions and strength levels in the field. This work will include the collection of seat belt samples from a wider range of recalled and peer vehicles for detailed analysis and testing. The ODI reports (VOQs) associated with this RQ19-003 can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following reference numbers: 11144704, 11076704, 11185619, 11151922, 11164011, 10967518, 11113486, 11115648
